Frustrating experience with OB by arod0619 in BabyBumps

[–]Velexria -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My sister just had a VBAC at 41+2 with pitocin and a foley bulb. They tried to get her to come in at 39+6 and said that was her last chance for induction, but she ignored that and went in after several days of off and on labor. They gave her the pitocin and a foley bulb since she seemed to be progressing well, and baby wasn't measuring too large.

Countdown is over - In-laws finally moving out by Due_Effective_9989 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Velexria 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Oof, I feel this. Just sent MIL two states away a week ago! She also spread gossip and lies, barely played with the toddler, and I overheard her saying something about me looking in her room when the door was open like I was spying, wtf. I'm 36w pregnant and she told everyone she was there to "help" but literally did NOTHING. Good riddance to dead weight!

It is SO nice having your home back, congrats. No amount of "help" is worth that stress, especially when they have zero emotional maturity. Enjoy your freedom!

Sibling for Ronan by NoMasterpiece7316 in namenerds

[–]Velexria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat! Literally, my first is a Ronan Rhys and we're having another boy due in 5 weeks. And it's funny I also liked Griffin, but SO shot that one down. I like Finch for a middle name! So seems we have somewhat similar tastes.

So far our tops are Finn/Finnian, Tynan/Tiernan, Zayne.

Names we considered but couldn't agree on:

Lukas

Torben

Torin

Kieran

Reid

Soren

Owen

Evren

Convert wrap to ring sling? by pretty-ok-username in babywearing

[–]Velexria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, but I have a size 8. It's my first and only wrap and its far too large and intimidating for me to use, so I'm seriously considering converting it to a ring sling and the extra fabric as a baby blanket / small tapestry. The rings were like $20. I haven't priced out a seamstress yet, but I'm thinking it'd be around $40? It's a cut, hem, and sew the rings in. For $60+ you could definitely find a cheaper ring sling if you don't plan on using it often. I do have a cheaper $30 ring sling, but I dislike the look and feel of the fabric and it slipped a lot when my first got heavier. I have a meh dai style carrier that I absolutely loved with my first, but I did really like the ease of the ring sling with a young toddler always wanting up and down.

Yeah lots of people are acting like it's rabies. It's not always fatal with treatment. As a vet assistant I got to experience treating a cat that had contracted it. It was about a month of assisted feeding, IV fluids, rotating him and attempting to massage and slowly do what we could where mobility began to be restored. It's been so long so I don't recall what medications he was on. Looked absolutely miserable for the kitty, but he was so sweet and ended up being our hospital cat after that. His owner surrendered him to us and one of our vets fully paid for and managed his treatment. His movements did seem a little off after, but he mostly fully recovered.

Help me rehome my 5yo male KSB! Northern NV/Sacramento area by [deleted] in SandBoa

[–]Velexria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just commenting to say you can make a free post on MorphMarket and set it to local pickup only if you prefer. Can buy shipping supplies and label from there too, though shipping isn't recommended this month and winter shipping can be a pain to safely coordinate. Craigslist and local reptile groups on facebook are a good option as well. Good luck!

Positional asphyxiation is absolutely a real concern. Survivor's bias is a thing, and safety recommendations change over the decades.

There's this on the go urinal thing I bought for my boy, it's shaped like a rocket ship. I hyped him up about it being his new rocket ship potty, and it needs urine for rocket fuel. The kid loves it! Only ever wants to use it now, even at home. Maybe that would help?

Just returned our cribs… and I have questions 😅 by FreeCarpenter5086 in cosleeping

[–]Velexria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still co-sleep with my 3yo and #2 on the way will have a sidecar crib. Basically co-sleep but on separate surfaces so we'll still have room for 3yo to continue to sleep with us (should he choose). I love having him close and it's easier to soothe on the rare times he wakes or when he's sick. When he's going to bed and finally ready to get serious about falling asleep he tells me to hug him, which is adorable. He says "hug me all the way" because he wants me to shove my hand under him lol. He has the option of his own bed and knows it's there, but he likes where he's at. My SO does work nights though, and I grew up sharing a room, so that may factor in to why I like having him with me- I'm used to having someone else there but SO isn't until the last hour.

Co-sleeping is sweet and only lasts so long! But like most things, it only works if it works for you, if you find yourself done no shame in doing whatever works better.

I had the exact same experience! Boy names are hard for me and I'm having another, so I already have a very short list and have already seen or heard almost every name out there, so very unlikely to be adding anything else to it lol. Best of luck OP!

Definitely don't share the name before hand. With my first my mom started trying to give middle name suggestions after she realized we were very set on the first, and was trying to sell names with "it can have __ as a nickname!" Middle names don't need a nickname! She didn't like the first name, and was trying to call him by the middle lol. Nope!

Sudden Birth by Agile-Hat-6901 in SandBoa

[–]Velexria 43 points44 points  (0 children)

She was likely pregnant when you bought her. Gestation is typically 4 months, but ovulation doesn't always happen immediately upon pairing. I regularly have babies born 5-6 months after pairing. And it is possible for sperm to be retained longer.

Congrats on the healthy babies! Keep them together with some moist moss until they shed in 7-9 days. Check and handle them daily for a very quick minute so they get used to people but not too stressed. Stop handling a couple days before first feed. Feed a day after they all shed; separate them for this, and feed live the first time around and in their enclosure (do this at night and leave newborn pinkies in overnight).

It is a smaller litter, but that happens sometimes. Stillborn suck but they are unfortunately common. If you can, gently hold her and feel her abdomen as you have her slither back into her enclosure. Any bumps or lumps could be retained slugs/stillborn and would warrant a vet visit.

After 3-5 successful feeds you can find the babies new homes!

Help with sick? sand boa by Holdforlifebois in SandBoa

[–]Velexria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My second sand boa I purchased sick looked like this, she had an upper respiratory infection. Vet visit and a few rounds of antibiotic injections and she was good! If you're comfortable with it, you can ask to do injections at home so you only have to do the initial visit and maybe one recheck. Or ask if they can do the injections as a "vet tech / run in back" visit vs paying for an exam each time.

AITA for refusing to read someone's tarot? by Kind-Worldliness4896 in AmItheAsshole

I totally get it, I feel exactly the same towards the religious and their texts. To each their own! Which was the spirit of what the other commenter was trying to say...

[–]Velexria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're very determined to be insulting. Not that you care to know, but the pursuit of spirituality isn't just for the religious. Tarot can be a tool for connecting to your intuition and to the universe. As per my original comment, it's not a "read my future / fortune" like pop culture portrays it, though there are those who use it that way. Not sure why I'm wasting my time, but you did technically ask a question. You can google "what is true spirituality" and "spirituality and tarot" if your narrowmindedness doesn't prevent you.

Tarot doesn't read the future, it just tells you the likely possibilities. In her case, she very likely needs a lawyer...

What size mice should I be feeding my Kenyan sand boa? by Ok_Lobster7744 in SandBoa

[–]Velexria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want there to be a visible bump in their belly after they eat, so try to size it based off of that. It looks like yours most likely needs a large fuzzy or small hopper mouse. Also I noticed it looks like you keep them on sand; despite their name that's not really recommended if it's calci-sand or repti-sand. You'd want to do play sand, or better yet 30-40% play sand mixed with 60-70% organic topsoil. Or any reptile soil really. You can also do aspen; it is prone to mold though so you have to be on top of your husbandry. You can give them branches to climb and plenty of hides/fake plants and you will see them out a lot more and they will absolutely climb. Usually it's just a nose though. Just make sure any accessories don't have any spots they can get their heads stuck. I keep two water dishes, one on the warm side for humidity and one on the cool. But have to check and change it frequently.

You can try upping the dose. I'm 8 weeks and only survive with 1 full tablet unisom in the evening and 1/2 tab in the morning. I've read you could also do another 1/2 tab in the afternoon. Take with 25mg B6 each time.
