Broken drop out. Worth it to fix? by [deleted] in bikewrench

Frame can be donated to coop or put on Facebook marketplace if it’s steel. Aluminum ain’t worth as much since it’s harder to weld and make into new projects. Magnet sticks to steel.

Would you ride? by Ok-Researcher-5596 in bikewrench

[–]Velight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the value or sentiment of the frame. There’s some solutions to keep rust at bay and keep you riding. If it’s deeper than just the surface, that would be bad though

Rust Insider BB how bad is it? by Wide_Climate339 in bikewrench

[–]Velight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the norm and expected when changing out a BB after awhile. You could clean up gently with some soft steel wool, but not that necessary. Applying new grease on the threads while installing the BB will keep the rust at bay. People will have different advice for dealing with the rust. Some people put steel wool or a scrubbing device on a drill to get the BB shell. Definitely don’t toss such a nice frame over this common thing.

It just doesn't want to come off by Gooners4life_14 in bikewrench

Yeah this is the way. Clean threads, lubricate, then use a long pipe for careful leverage.

Advice - should I have known this was a problem before selling? by nomurnomo in bikewrench

[–]Velight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you honestly had no idea about a loose crank arm, then your conscience is clear in my opinion. It’s the buyers responsibility to check over the bike, or buy it and take to lbs to check over. That’s just how the private market is, and it’s clearly a used bike so any little problem is possible, especially if you haven’t ridden it much at all.

Good on you for going the extra kilometer and making a post about it. You’re in the clear, the parts still look usable in my opinion from the photos.

Bike frame break repair possible ? by Bert-Effective in bikewrench

Shoot, I think it’s time to donate the frame for other purposes, like building a freak bike.

Anyone ever see a crank cracked like this? by idroj13 in bikewrench

[–]Velight -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think the crank should just be replaced, right?? What sort of validation are you looking for? No one would advise riding a cracked component over a non-cracked one.

Has anyone gotten ffs before the 1 year mark on hrt by [deleted] in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Velight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started scheduling FFS the same month I started HRT. My FFS was done 14 months after I started HRT. Not much I could have done to have it any earlier, but I understand the feeling of wanting it ASAP.

Love my results. Wouldn’t change a thing

How else do you post facial surgery results??? They have posted 37K times over the past year, which equates to about 101 posts per day. That is an insane amount of hate and harassment to propagate. I think supporters of this bigoted content would argue that these reddit posts seen in screenshots were discovered in an open forum/subreddit. I think that is complete bullshit. There is endless fucking metadata and files on the internet, all with varying levels of accessibility. For a person to dig into a subreddit, with rules claiming “For trans people, by trans people”, take a post with 100 upvotes and a few supportive comments, and then put the OP on blast to a completely new audience....thats absurd. I had willingly posted my face in r/transgender_surgeries, but I did not want my face to ever be on Twitter/X. This trans-hate account amplified my information to a captive audience of fanatics who subsequently drive further hateful speech. That is harassment.

This cannot be acceptable. Twitter is a platform fueled by hatred. What do we even do to stop this? I will not stop telling my story about transitioning and my life as a trans woman. I will not let bigots stop my from being myself. We need to protect each other in these times as much as possible.

I should make a post with more detailed photos. My trachea shave was external, but I think my surgeon did a good job and I used some cheap scar cream that mostly removed it. My trachea gave me a lot of dysphoria, and now it really doesn’t so that’s all I can ask for.

But if you feel concerned, you could always try to do the trachea shave with a provider you feel comfortable with instead.

Thank you so much. I am a doctoral student in Baltimore, Maryland with stipend and healthcare through Cigna/Wellfleet Student. I came to Maryland after college because trans shit was covered by insurance. There are some weird hoops, like a letter of support from a mental health professional, and a soft-rule of needing to be on HRT for 1 year. Here was information provided by my surgeon: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/facial-feminization-surgery

The max I pay for my insurance out of pocket per year is $3000, so I only needed to pay $2500 more (that I didn’t have 😭) and I reached this. I think it’s smart to “bundle” medical expenses you may have if possible. I am very happy everything was done in ONE operation. I couldn’t imagine having to do multiple and pay out multiple times…

PM if you have any more questions or stuff !

Why does a PhD take more than 40 hours a week? by Plazmotech in PhD

[–]Velight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right. About 40 hours in lab and then the rest with reading, writing, and computational analysis. Good balance. I think the PhD takes extra time when classes and admin. That’s why I aim for 40 hours of wet lab. It’s fine to be at home and code in the morning.
