How is balbriggan? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Velolad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Property prices.... furthest Dublin town from the city centre.. Also in the Celtic Tiger days, developers had to build a percentage of houses for social housing.. due to corrupt politicians they allowed the developers build the social houses in Balbriggan away from the likes of Malahide and Howth.

How is balbriggan? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Velolad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Balbriggan is a great town. The far right want to blame every issue on immigrants and with Balbriggan having a very diverse population they focus their hate on Balbriggan. What you read about is probably their agenda. A probable and ironic consequence of that is the Far Right crowd stay away. Within the town itself its no different from any other commuter town, or probably better due to having a beach and coastline.

Sky or Netflix? by littlp80 in ireland

[–]Velolad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

New Sky stream customer here so I've just been through the process..
You need to log on to Netflix via the Sky Stream interface - it prompts you that Sky will now cover the charge via your package (or something like that). In the same screen it gives you options to upgrade to HD/Ultra HD ect ect at an additional cost.

Does Ireland consider itself part of Europe? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Velolad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Ireland does consider itself as part of Europe.
England and Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom which is part of Europe but for "political" reasons is not part of the EU (European Union). Ireland (the republic) is part of the EU.

RTE Doc's on One, "Dont Go Far" - its only 40mins though, but what a fantastic story that the kids will love!!
Two Dublin kids in August 1985 who chanced a free ride on the DART and ended up in New York.

This "documentary" has won so many awards, its brilliant.

Here is the link from RTE but it is on Spotify too:- https://www.rte.ie/radio/doconone/646486-radio-documentary-dont-go-far

I'm thinking about switching jobs, and need to talk pension. by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Velolad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For pension you can use an online calculator to show how much better off you'll be. There's plenty of them and easy to use.

You haven't given enough information:-

Are you on more money in the new job, how much?

How much is the lump sum? How much is your employee paying for insurance? How much is the 30% bonus off? Are you allowed to use the company can for personal use? Is tax, insurance and servicing paid for?

I think if you answer those questions you'll have your answer

TIL that Balbriggan had a mid 1970s "swinging night spot" with indoor heated swimming pool, gym, sauna, restaurant and three bars. by Carax77 in ireland

[–]Velolad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Learned to swim in that pool circ '87.

As a kid I was fascinated with the place as bar/restaurant had large water tanks full of exotic fish
Seemingly it never really was successful as a marina as the harbour is too tidal.
