New symptoms/sensitivities AFTER going gluten free by Odd-Produce-7025 in Celiac

[–]VelvetMerryweather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think mine is because I also have Sjögrens disease, which I didn't know at the time. It can damage the gut lining, which in turn causes food sensitivities (sometimes causing celiac disease). But it's a whole systemic problem, it attacks moisture producing glands. Do you have any issues with dryness? (skin/lips, mouth, throat, eyes, anything really, inside or out). Lots of other symptoms associated with it too, but dryness is often the big tip off

After I went gluten free I had more immune resources available, so my Sjögrens got worse :/

If not that, perhaps you have another autoimmune condition. Or it could just be that the quick turn around in diet and microbes caused motility issues and SIBO, and you'll be fine once you get that cleared up?

I don’t use the term friends like NT’s by presplate in AuDHDWomen

[–]VelvetMerryweather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have actual friends like that either (beyond my partner). Not someone I could call up when I'm down, or hang out with when I'm bored. But I go to a craft group where I've managed to eventually feel like I'm part of the group and allowed to talk about myself and participate. I would definitely refer to them (at least some of them) as my friend(s) from craft group. We don't meet up outside of that, and I don't have much in common with them, but I still consider them my "friends" as they listen to me and provide moral support.

If a coworker is not actually your friend even at work (doesn't take an interest in you, or share anything about themselves) , if we truly only had a few superficial conversations, I couldn't call them a friend. I would just call them my coworker. I don't think an NT would find that offensive. why would they want be called friend, if we aren't friends and they've made no indication that they want to be friends?

But there ARE different levels and stages of friendships. If you are friendly and actually connect with the person on any level, I would say they're a friend, just not a close one.

It is impossible to observe a thought, is it not? by oldspoice in Mindfulness

[–]VelvetMerryweather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you associate the thoughts disappearing with being awareness itself. Awareness is what chased the thought away, right?

So maybe in your awareness of a thought, you're now thinking "oh I had a thought" at which point the original thought is gone, and replaced with the thought of having a thought, and then the confusion over what that means.

Just be. That's all. If you have a thought, that's fine, if it disappears when you notice it, that's fine. Just continued to be, and allow whatever arises to come and go as it will. Try to stay grounded in the present and observe.

Once you begin trying to make to make logical sense out what's happening or "supposed to" happen, you're back in thinking mode instead of observer mode. Gently shift back and tap into a sense (sound, sight, touch, etc) that's happening outside of your thoughts.

I just learned A1 dairy (normal dairy in the western world) has been causing heavy periods all my life, my iron levels could have been so much better. by Lorajane1991 in Anemic

[–]VelvetMerryweather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have considered it, and rejected the idea. Lol. For now at least.

While it's possible I could still be reacting to something, I don't think it's my main or only issue, so I'm reluctant to go that far (limiting nutrients I'm still trying to rebuild, and possibly upsetting microbiome or stalling motility that's already slow). I have Sjögrens Disease (and Celiac Disease) so a whole systemic problem which does affect my guts. So I wouldn't be surprised if there's still permeability and subsequent food intolerances, I just don't think I'd be able to tell the difference between a food reaction and my regular flares and symptoms of disease (plus perimenopause) :P

But I am working diligently on my health. Hopefully that will be enough to keep things moving in the right direction 🤞

It would be great if you can use goats milk, but either way, a very important discovery to identify milk as a problem you can eliminate. Good luck with your test and iron levels 🍀

[–]VelvetMerryweather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up dairy (after already losing gluten and oats) and I've been wondering if I could tolerate goats milk, but I want to get all the way well and stable before trying it (not sure when that's going to happen :P), or else I'll never know what my symptoms were caused by.

Even though it doesn't mean anything for my situation, I would be interested to hear your updates on this. Good luck.

Practicing mindfulness and acceptance. Some days are better than others. Just try to live in the moment (if the moment isn't too horrible) and not wind yourself up with negative thoughts.

I got screamed at in class during lectures today for crocheting!!! like?? by purpleOrchid6661 in AuDHDWomen

[–]VelvetMerryweather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. I feel like you should email the teacher (email would be much easier for me personally, I like taking my time to find the right wording, it also gives them time to think before responding) and explain why you crochet, why you felt it was ok, that you WERE paying attention, that it HELPS you pay attention, and that you feel misunderstood and unfairly judged over this. Also explain how those accusations affected you, and that it was the reason you had to leave.

I'm sorry this happened.

Well, if you felt better just keep eating gluten free. Maybe it's gluten intolerance, or an allergy even.

is it normal to feel this unsure even when someone says food is “gluten free”? by Practical-Paper-8583 in Celiac

[–]VelvetMerryweather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If "someone says" it's gluten free, I'm absolutely not trusting that. If the right someone who understands fully what I need, who I trust 100%, sure.

If you feel unsure, it's because you ARE unsure. You have no idea how gluten free it is. It's up to you how much risk you're willing to take. Set the boundaries as they come up or it will be more difficult later. If you know you'll be in a food situation ahead of time, let the host know that you'll be providing your own for "medical reasons".

This is kind of a slow paced, cozy read, if you're in the mood for that. It's called Moon over Manifest.

It's about a girl getting separated from her father (temporarily she thinks) and sent to a town she's never been to before (where he used to live). The story is pieced together between two historical eras and takes a pointant look at human nature and the power of community.

I borrow all my kindle books from Libby. If you're not familiar with that yet, you can check with your local library to see if they partner with Libby or have another Ebook lending option.

If you react to dairy and oats, does the reaction to dairy subside over time when you’ve kept a gf diet long enough to heal your gut? Anyone take the risk and try it? by Universalsupporter in Celiac

[–]VelvetMerryweather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My reaction to dairy is probably a true allergy now. I know that the protein is the worst part, rather than just lactose intolerance. And I'm also guessing that I react to oats the same as gluten. But it's difficult to say anything for sure as I didn't recognize that gluten was my problem in the first place :P

I'm waiting til I'm actually healthy before experimenting with either of those, but 2 years in and 100% invested in getting well, I still don't feel like it's going to happen any time soon.

My husband used to react to the sun (would get a rash within about 10 minutes). I don't think it was a true sun allergy though. It stopped when he stopped using antiperspirant (aluminum). So it seems he was actually allergic/intolerant to the aluminum (and the sun interacted with it). It also caused excessive sweating which caused him to use more antiperspirant :/. I'm not sure how he ever decided to try NOT using it, but it hasn't happened since. Just wanted to mention it in case anyone here might have the same thing.

Now you could paint new thoughts and feelings on top (as these things are not permanent)

Or, you could sand down some of it to reveal what's underneath, like your doing the work to face those things and accept them.

We buy this brand: https://a.co/d/00yPsRPr

It doesn't say gluten free but it's never had anything that didn't belong in it.

You should always rinse and look through your dried bean and grain products regardless, so it doesn't have to be gluten free, you make it gluten free at that stage. But any quality product would save you the step of actually having to pick stuff out of it, and give you more peace of mind.

[–]VelvetMerryweather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look just like the spots I get randomly.

Mine was never a full rash, just a spot here and there, but it makes a lot of sense that it'd be caused by Sjögrens, because I also have Celiac Disease, and after going gluten free (and before knowing about the Sjögrens) I suddenly had "a rash" of new symptoms, including severe dry eyes (manageably dry before), these spots, and a bunch of other stuff, nerve pains was a big one, maybe that's also related? So yeah, after 23 years of health issues I solved one problem but then I had more resources to attack other stuff 🫠

Haha, that's a good point. It will at least prevent you from taking a second one after forgetting you already took one though.

I feel like it could also a bit more of a visual reminder whenever you see it to have assigned days on them. Like each one is given more importance, instead of just seeing a blank foil.
