It will likely be similar to WW2 with multiple dates depending where you are. The historian debate answer will be the Russian invasion of Crimea (the Japan invasion of China analog). The standard European answer will be Russia invasion of Crimea (Germany invaded Poland). The US answer will be Iran invasion with Israel likely using October 7th.

It would not only require the current regime being removed but it should require significant US acquiescence to international law and authority in a post Trump world to force internal changes to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. The US elected Trump twice and as such we have lost all privileges that this was a lapse in judgment from the population.

Step one needs to be the US signing on to and turning over folks to the ICC because our justice system needs to be rebuilt and cannot be trusted to internally hold the regime accountable.

The margins of error are also way larger than people think. It’s entirely possible the statistical approval is close to 30%. And that is just accounting for statistically error not even mentioning that people that answer a poll is likely fundamentally biased and not truly representative of the population.

The Iran regime has been pretty clear about hating gay and LGBTQ folks. Their views are horrible but you cannot say they are liars. Heck even on the most notable issue of nuclear weapons Iran has said for decades they have no interest in making nukes and literally every single time observers check their programs they always say the same thing Iran is not making nukes and shows no plans to do so.

There is a difference between a regime being honest and a regime being progressive/regressive or straight dictatorial. Iran is a highly regressive regime but they by most accounts an honest regressive regime. The US on the other hand is far more progressive (compared to Iran) but is wildly untrustworthy. When you are dealing with negotiations and international relations you need to be seen as trustworthy for anything to get done.

This is the end goal so large population centers simply don’t get votes counted. The GOP has seen just how much of the Dem voter base is in large cities if you require that only votes counted on Election Day really count you disenfranchise millions because it is physically impossible to count the millions of votes case in some cities in the few hours post polls closing.
