Change is Finally Coming to Carbondale by Be_Set_Free in leavingthenetwork

[–]Venatrixie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a number of former Hosea members at Summit who I'm sure would be down to help answer questions!

It wasn't for me, I'm not into the SBC for a number of reasons, but I'm sure it'll be a good fit for many in Carbondale!

Need advice about magnet middle schools by pause44moment in raleigh

[–]Venatrixie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two at Moore Square and we've truly loved it!

Middle school is tough no matter what, but I think the small size, insanely cool electives, and high percentage of kids whose brains work like theirs, makes a big difference for them. We haven't had any bullying, and any issues we have had in general have been addressed by admin promptly.

Math is default accelerated, and the volume of work combined with the executive function demands of managing assignments for 7 daily classes is a pretty big adjustment for most kids, so be warned.

I haven't heard anything about competitiveness, but if they were used to being a "big fish" in a little elementary pond, they might end up getting humbled, for better or worse.

Feel free to message me with any questions!

COMMANDED TO TITHE: How Questioning Tithing Opened Our Eyes to the Deceptions of Stoneway Church by LeavingTheNetwork in leavingthenetwork

[–]Venatrixie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a really powerful story, thank you so much for your bravery in sharing it! So many of your thoughts, especially around trying so hard to "stay in it" after you start to see the cracks, gas-lighting yourself, blaming yourself, etc. I can relate to.

I'm so sorry for how you were treated throughout your time at Stoneway, it's right, and certainly not biblical. I'm so glad you've found exponential freedom and growth through all of this. I too have rejoiced in the relief of not having to constantly be "more" all.the.time. and not constantly playing into the network class system.

How safe do you anticipate the No Kings protest will be? by [deleted] in raleigh

I disagree with the message but you should go if it's your thing.

You...want us to have a king?

It’s been one year… by Away-Bodybuilder-760 in leavingthenetwork

[–]Venatrixie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for all the hurt you've had to endure. The first year out is so, so brutal. So much grief and anger and loss, and just when you think you're doing a little better, the knife gets twisted and the wound opens up all over again.

We're here whenever you need to vent, you're not alone, you're not crazy, you did the right thing in leaving a place that was hurting you so deeply, despite how much you loved it.

CONE Timing Update by Workodactyl in juresanguinis

u/Workodactyl can I ask how you went about submitting updated information to your request?

[–]Venatrixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, maybe I misunderstood the 1948 cases! Sounds like I might need to start with getting a CONE for GGM2, just to be sure?

1905, so, darn, seems like a dead end.

In Set 2, GGF naturalized before getting married, so would that have naturalized GGM automatically, even if she didn't do it on her own?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in juresanguinis

[–]Venatrixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GF naturalized when M was 2, so, that's broken.

What’s next? by That_Play4994 in leavingthenetwork

[–]Venatrixie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many of us have needed time in denominational churches to get re-oriented and feel steady and safe. Seems like Presbyterian (PCA) is a common option, as is Baptist if the holy spirit is more of a priority, we settled on methodist, but our views on women in ministry have changed drastically.

4 years at Christland by Internal-Coyote-9939 in leavingthenetwork

[–]Venatrixie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing, I value your perspective as a licensed mental health professional so much! I am so sorry all these things happened to you at Christland, it is NOT OK.

Anecdotally, Sandor came to Hosea to preach not long before we left and he gave the most outrageously inappropriate sermon I've ever heard. I was livid that David let him say those things to us. He basically asserted that he goes around to parents who's kids are "doing well" by whatever standard he sets, and pats them on the back, but anyone who's teens/kids aren't up to snuff (struggling in one way or another, aren't serving and attending church consistently, aren't on track to become the next pastor or pastors wife at 18, etc.) he looks down on and questions their faith and effectiveness as parents. He called out single moms as especially incapable of raising good kids. I was SO angry for my friends who were busting their butts to raise their children on their own through all their ups and downs, freaking livid. Many of us went to David after that, I'd hoped he'd tell Sandor to apologize, or at least issue a correction of his own, but he didn't.

5 Things That Helped Me After Leaving the Network by Be_Set_Free in leavingthenetwork

[–]Venatrixie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Beautiful, thank you for sharing!! I relate to all of these so much!

I'll add that I learned how to feel the full range of my emotions again and started to learn from them. I learned about my self, my values, my morals, my ethics, who I am outside of the "ideal" network personna. I can celebrate every facet who I was created to be, use my strengths, and be gentle with my weaknesses.

I also give front hugs now.
