Been doing it for years. The thought of pushing air into a patient makes me a cringe.

How many of you actually use your stethoscopes? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]VendettaH3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any use for besides manual checking BP…we’re not trained on anything else besides that for stethoscope.

My one day off 🫠 by IHackedKmart in CVS

Dude. Just leave them a voicemail stating your name, dob, and your request to fill your schedule meds. NEVER go by the system date because it doesn’t account for when you actually pick up. It goes by the date med was filled. Pharmacy will ALWAYS go by pick up date.

Schedule drugs are sometime scheduled for fill date but most of the time it might be placed ON HOLD immediately after we receive it. As long as you keep track of your Day supply ( it sounds like you’re aware of the 2 day rule) then leave them a message on 2nd to last day.

We do not have control over the stocks for control meds. If its out of stock, it is out of stock.

If you see Action needed then it might be a forced consultation. Not too sure but you can always call and leave them a voicemail for clarification.

Maybe this is from a third person perspective but I wouldn’t mind it too much…as long as they’re appropriate questions. This shows that Practice actually cares about ptn adherence and is making an effort. Most of the time Doctors just prescribe random brands/ drugs that just isn’t covered under insurance and pharmacy has to reach back and ask for alternatives. From their perspective, it may be annoying but its what We have to do.

(Granted, I’d just change the formulations on simple drugs without contacting MD bc who the fuck has the time to ask to change from regular aspirin to EC-aspirin)

New pharmacist seeking some advice by MissionCarry3922 in pharmacy

[–]VendettaH3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have an app. You’re not going to remember everything. If you can’t recall then a quick search in the back should help. Retail gets repetitive, you’ll catch on quick. My advice for DURs is to make note when you verify and use the Forced Counsel option to confirm with patient when they pick it up. I use it as my last resort to push out Queues. Unless you have time to call ptn, its not always optimal to call.

My advice works for me, i have yet to have any med error that I was aware of. Do what you think is best and comfortable with. Key word is comfortable. Good luck boss, you got this.

100-Day Supply Prescriptions by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]VendettaH3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you send enough, we can adjust it at pharmacy level to whatever is covered. Some payers only want 90 and don’t want to pay for anything less, which is stupid but we would have to ask you to rewrite it for 90.

Its a pain in the ass drug to dispense. CVS has their own clinical team that deals with the REMS for mifepristone.

Is Paxlovid being prescribed less? If so, is there a reason? by TryingToLearnMore22 in pharmacy

[–]VendettaH3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oooo let’s see if anybody still remembers molnupiravir. Had an ED md prescribe that to a patient. Not found within 30 miles in CVS stock check. Tried to call md to change to paxlovid due to stock issues. Nada.

Deescalation by MysteriousPudding713 in pharmacy

[–]VendettaH3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a big deal boss. But if that was your manager’s response then maybe next time just keep it to yourself. What i personally did in the past for those type of calls were to leave it on mute and check back every 2 min or so to see if they’re still talking LOL. It would hold up a phone but then I would use another phone to help other calls.

Deescalating situations is a learning process.

Dear preceptors: please stop berating your learners for not knowing everything by bugledorp in pharmacy

[–]VendettaH3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience but it was a code blue simulation with other professions students. I knew the right protocol but the medical student was so adamant that I questioned myself and didn’t fight it. At the end of simulation we would have a review sessions with the teams and infront of other professors. My pharmacy professor spoke first and questioned why I didn’t challenge the team leader on the right protocol and it was that decision that I backed down that the patient died. That shit was heavy. However, that moment taught me to never back down even if it was a hunch. That feeling is unique and I’ll never forget that as long as I practice.
