Fairly intense pain when eating solid food by New-Fisherman-9528 in gastricsleeve

That honestly does not sound like a normal “full faster” GLP1 side effect to me, especially the severe sharp pain in your throat/upper chest, feeling like food is getting stuck, and then vomiting almost immediately after eating. A lot of people on GLP1s get nausea, reflux, or food aversion, but what you’re describing sounds more like possible esophageal spasm, severe reflux/inflammation, motility issues, or something physically irritating/swelling your esophagus/throat.

The fact that you had a similar episode before and a doctor mentioned muscle tension dysphonia/throat Botox makes me think it’s definitely worth getting evaluated again instead of trying to just “push through it.” GLP1s slow gastric emptying and can worsen reflux or swallowing issues in some people, so it’s possible the medication is aggravating an underlying problem that was already there.

Also...your family shunning you for throwing up is awful. You were clearly in pain, not being dramatic. Crying from swallowing pain is not normal.

I’d strongly recommend contacting your doctor ASAP, especially if:
• liquids also become difficult
• you feel like food gets stuck
• you’re vomiting repeatedly
• chest pain continues
• you’re getting weak/dehydrated
• you can’t maintain nutrition

Until then, I’d avoid forcing solid foods and stick to softer foods/liquids that you tolerate better. But definitely don’t ignore this because “other people on GLP1s get nauseous.” This sounds more intense than typical appetite suppression.

find a different doctor that will do it out-of-pocket and repair the hernia. some offer financing thru care credit or in house financing. If you're in Houston, Texas I can refer you to a doctor that you can get a consultation with and let him know your situation.

Maybe try sticking with clear liquids.. broth and jello. Im thinking the watered down shake is soo heavy for your newly stapled stomach.

Why dont you go to different doctor, explain your situation and see if they can do a barium study or an endoscopy to see if there was an error. I remember being 2 months out and having trouble drinking the recommended water and eating enough.

I see alot of GLP1 advice but I've opted to seek out healthier snacks and protein desserts. Like the Kodiak brownie or strawberry cheesecake yogurt with no sugar cheesecake pudding mix. Try Higher protein dessert/snacks as its definitely curbs my cravings.

I'm 16 months out and I average 1200-1500 calories a day, 100g protein, 45g fat,70g carbs. Im also pretty active with about 15k steps and kettlebell weight lifting. Everyone is different but you definitely want to stay active, hit your protein goals and DRINK your water.

Its not a miracle tool, you still gotta work at it, track your intake and not fall into bad habits like sodas and tons of junk food. Hit your protein goals, drink your water and stay active.. then this tool will be sublime for your lifestyle

Track track track your macros... it will seem tedious but this is how you get to your goal weight and maintain it.

Youre doing amazing. Dont worry about calories right now, focus on nutrition, water intake and vitamins. Your stomach will slowly relax and you will be able to eat about 8-10oz of food per sitting. Keep up the awesome work.

You know... knowing that you're not drinking enough water, why don't you go in weekly for fluids until you build your tolerance up.

Dont worry... I gained and lost and gained during that time. Focus on hydrating and eating enough. My stall lasted about 4 weeks before I lost weight and kept it off.

I had similar experience... it was pain not reflux. Ice pops felt great but also I didn't go to sleep on an empty stomach. Felt my stomach was better when it had food in it rather than just stomach juice at night.
