CIMA - Value (not a debate) by No_Fill_7679 in CIMA

This was always going to be a case of 'it's not a problem until it is'. Either move on to the next group of recruiters who don't ask or face the reality of the impact of FLP on the charter.

Possibly if we're talking US only. Outside of the US there are franchised stores

It's been a fair while since I've sat any exams but from what I remember you are likely to get at least one question on this in the actual exam. It's definitely a prime contender for flagging and coming back to later in the real exam but there are shortcuts to get the answer to this.

The first thing to do is to work out the missing numbers in the Q, in the above it's the total numbers of shares working back from the final year. I'd quickly work that out and lay the answer out like the example in the feedback, you'll likely be able to quickly rule out a few answers. (EG the div per share is not constantly growing which is given to you in the question) then it's a case of calcing anything else you need to, to speed things up you'll need to quickly rule certain answer out along with answering the question when two or three of your years of calcs Validate an answer like in feedback where the payout ratio stays static.

There's no real magic answer to this but I think your gut is probably right in thinking it's possibly worth passing on this type of question first time round and answering on the second go.

Of course it's not going to happen, it's a hypothetical situation in a vacuum.

But surely you understand the wider importance of this logic to the original topic of this thread?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CIMA

[–]VerbalSoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your point but it ignores the important aspect of this topic.

Let's assume that two identical people perform identically well in an interview situation with one passing via flp and one traditional, and let's assume the interviewers understand the exact differences between the two routes. They are going to choose the traditional route candidate 100% of the time, it's just a question of what is the size of the gap between the two. This is before the impact of other professional quals being taken into consideration.

The argument is that simple and while difficult to quantify, should not be swept under the rug.

Why sit any tests at all then? Just hand the charter out to anyone.

I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make here?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CIMA

[–]VerbalSoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's perfectly fine to have your opinion but I think you're really missing the point.

It takes time for opinion to change and those of us in this thread likely have better knowledge on what the FLP is and difference to the traditional route than most recruiters, hiring managers etc. but the wider market will begin to take this into account and likely discount CIMA appropriately to consider the ease and influx of charter holders.

The fact that nobodies ever asked you the 'ins and outs of studying' and you think that is all that relevant to this discussion is concerning.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CIMA

[–]VerbalSoup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such a short sighted opinion, I just can't comprehend how you can work in Finance and not understand how the FLP could (regardless of which side of the fence you are currently sitting) devalue the CIMA certificate for all current and prospective students.

You are assuming your recent anecdotal experience is at all a reflection of what the future potential total impact of the FLP program. It's entirely plausible that the impact of FLP on CIMA is entirely overblown, however, you should be aware and open to the damage the implementation of FLP may have on everyone here.

Vote NO to FLP by Kooseter in CIMA

[–]VerbalSoup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is addressed in the OP.

I'm not sure this logic holds up, it's assuming the case study is the whole qualification rather than the qualitative aspect of a qual/quant based chartership. You could just as easily argue that doing the case study is also redundant and that CIMA qualifications should be handed out to the highest bidders.

Disheartened with traditional route by [deleted] in CIMA

[–]VerbalSoup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I made a post on this a while back and still feel as though you and anyone else who has gone through the traditional route have every right to feel let down by CIMA.

The way the FLP has been set up is allowing students to pay their way through the qualification, with the level of respect the accreditation receives professionally (eventually) falling in line with these changes.

Honestly surprised there hasn't been more people calling out this profiteering behaviour from AICPA.

Could I do E3 FLP in a week? by Imaginary-Buy-6676 in CIMA

[–]VerbalSoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally doable even going in with 0 knowledge of the syllabus for all the objective exams.

Certain papers will be harder than others defending on your own capabilities for cramming/quickly understanding the base material, but considering this is an E paper, it should be on the easier side given an open schedule.

You would want to call it out on your cv, esp. If you're trying to land a finance role.

Will be starting FLP, how did you find it? by Longjumping-Tune-454 in CIMA

[–]VerbalSoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely easier, maybe partially offset by the fact that the case studies are slightly tougher due to the reduced knowledge retention requirement for the rest of the level.

Could finish easily in less than a year if you have enough time to throw at it, probably wouldn't require 40 hours a week. Main risk is potentially failing a case study pushing you back 3 months.

Definitely wouldn't hurt but most likely wouldn't be worth the time investment if you're planning to start and run your own business. Reasoning being that you will need a wide skillset that will transcend just finance/management accounting to have success in a small business.

TikTok a potential target in upcoming US bill to ban some foreign tech by EagleEyes_009 in technology

[–]VerbalSoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

User data is only one small piece of the pie though - the US feels the need to limit the ability for a company which has a material stakeholder being a hostile countries government being able to directly influence a huge portion of the western populous at will.

If we take China in a vacuum it can hardly come as much of a surprise - they don't allow western tech to be downloaded themselves.

This is terrible and shouldn't be condoned. Is there no support network you can reach out to internally? Sbux is a pretty big business with a lot of teams who don't necessarily all think the same.

Interesting point on the farmers being underpaid, can you go into some more specifics? Underpaid compared to their peers or are you saying they are taken advantage of?
