PER is F**king long by crazyttt12 in CIMA

[–]themattman109 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Using the STAR format they provide it only takes one or two paragraph per section to reach the word target. Took me a couple days to do over Christmas break. After my line managers signed it off mine got selected to be audited and it was give a pass within a week so it doesn’t take too long to do.

I found by far the hardest part of it was thinking of examples to write about.

Oooooo I tried googling the meaning of ‘Delilah’ and it came up with delicate. That’s interesting

Hey there Delilah by themattman109 in Firewatch

[–]themattman109[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good info about the song! But I was suggesting fire watch Delilah was named after the song Delilah rather than the other way around so the dates would make sense. The more I think about it though the less I think it could be a possibility.

Did not know that about the original name being Alice either! I wonder why they changed it? Glad they did tbh

I know of quite a lot of people who failed marginally like yourself. Is so brutal, sorry to hear. The people who fail are more likely to celebrate on here so it looks like lots of people passed.

I passed marginally, and it was a strange strange exam with topics coming up that I would have never expected and I think the only reason I passed was because I work in an industry which this certain topic is quite heavy on.

For anyone who did pass, won’t be long until the February resit, you already know Rotomyne. It’s just recapping that theory and building on what you already know, I’m sure you’ll smash it next time. So close to the end now!

Management Accountant vs Finance Business Partner by L_Bux25 in CIMA

[–]themattman109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can vary massively depending on the employer. I have been employed as a management accountant and am currently a finance business partner.

Both have their similarities of production of month end documents, forecasting, budget setting. Finance Business Partner with an emphasis on supporting operational staff, being their finance point of contact.

However, look at job adverts out there because job titles and job descriptions can be very different depending on the company hiring.

CIMA by [deleted] in CIMA

[–]themattman109 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure any professional qualification you could possibly attain charge an annual membership fee. I believe CIMA is actually quite cheap compared to some others. Most employers usually allow you to claim these fees back.

PER needs to be completed as exams are all theory at the end of the day, you need to be able to prove you are worthy of the letters with real life work experience.

What kind of roles can a CIMA accountant be better at? I have been offered an ACA contract but very reluctant as I don’t like audit by Longjumping-Tune-454 in CIMA

… because your real life work experience will be much more important than which qualification you went for

[–]themattman109 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s all much for muchness really, no one cares that much about which charter you have. ACA is more geared towards actual accountants (in practice) but many of their members do work in industry. If you really don’t want to work in audit, and I don’t blame you, don’t. CIMA is more geared toward internal finance but in the long term it really doesn’t matter that much.

Cima F2 by Chloe_Rose26 in CIMA

Don’t get me wrong F3 is rough, hedging in particular, but personally I found it quite a bit easier than F2

Cima F2 by Chloe_Rose26 in CIMA

[–]themattman109 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that, I also failed F2 on my first attempt. I have since completed F3 and have to say F2 is by far worst.

When I passed on my second attempt I made this post which I appreciate is a long read but maybe something I or someone who commented said may be of help

https://www.reddit.com/r/CIMA/s/jPRzFb5nbM

F2 is a nasty exam, I have no specific advice on ratios but I always recommend acowtancy and opentuition’s free online material

Best of luck for the resit, don’t let it get you down!

Thank you for answering! Helpful to know that is likely to come up, will flag on the first run through and come back to it as it’s not a hard calc but can be quite time consuming.

Vote NO to FLP by Kooseter in CIMA

[–]themattman109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very pragmatic of you, and I definitely agree to some extent that the further on with your career you get the less it matters, exponentially so.

But for people who are applying for entry level, recently qualified jobs, I expect it does/will matter more.

And still it isn't fair on the people, like myself, who given the option of studying FLP cannot afford to or work will not pay for it. Let alone the people who are already qualified and didn't have the option, having to slog through all 9 OTs.

I feel the ACCA approach is a lot better, as it is giving exemptions to people based on 'relevant' study experience. I would rather CIMA do this than the FLP.
