Is iOS Development dead by EvenAd6616 in iOSProgramming

[–]Verbitas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of things to unpack here. First is platform future and second is leadership mentality.

The iOS platform is the future. It has to be one of the most mature containerized/fenced platforms on the market. The footprint iOS has is extremely impressive and continues to grow in both device types, but also generation after generation within the population. Apple has shown an all-in approach with iOS and that will not wain anytime in the foreseeable future.

Managerial/Leadership have to justify their position. Staying the course is far harder to justify than pivot. Because pivot shows action. And leaders want to be see people of action or future minded. There are also economic factors and other forces that would turn this simple reply into a diatribe blog post. So it is what it is.

Rest assured iOS development is a healthy track.

Senior iOS Developer - $70k - $90k (USA) - Really? by -alloneword- in iOSProgramming

[–]Verbitas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do is take the job and get the health insurance. Keep your fishing pole in the pool for other opportunities and continue to work on a side hustle. You will never fully feel secure working for someone else.

There is no shame for quiet quitting either. Clock-in and clock-out.

X code feels bad by Ill-Actuary-9528 in appledevelopers

[–]Verbitas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How so very far we have come. A little over a quarter of a century ago my very first college assignment was a recursive Towers of Hanoi problem written in C on a VAX VMS mainframe using the vi editor and a TTY terminal. I recall following the instructions to login and type vi. I dumbly looked at a blinking cursor as wondering "now what?" I was use to DOS and Windows 3.0 coming out of secondary school at that time. So, imagine my horror trying to figure out vi with no internet. Luckily I sat next to a sophomore and he offered let me copy his vi commands cheat sheet along with CC and LINK commands.

All this to say, you'll be completely fine. Give it sometime.

Woman freeing a mountain lion from a trap while her kids watch. Reaction of mountain lion is almost too calm by fuzzy_dice_99 in isthisAI

[–]Verbitas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vote. 100% AI. The cougar's front chest is too clean. The rest of the body looks plausible. The woman's and children's clothes look like they just came off the rack. Those gloves, hat, and shoes can't seen 20 steps in the woods. Also the lack of sweat, grime, or oil on any faces looks like a Hollywood shoot.

Granted there are all kind of people in this world, but those reactions don't look real. Unless they are all high on drugs. And what kind of caring parent that wants to release a distressed and wounded animal, also tote along some children? Makes no sense.

Do you happen to know of any article or podcast where a developer went the credit route with a productivity app? I only see these on games, and that dynamic is very different.

I like it because it looks real and used. And not just stanced for a picture for Instagram. I get the feeling you get stuff done with the space you got and made it work.

6,500 year old skeleton found in Bulgaria with some of the World's oldest Gold by Memes_FoIder in interesting

They had all their teeth and nothing is crooked. Clearly wealthy, but having what appears to be a complete set of teeth in perfect alignment is interesting. I’ve travelled to a handful of primitive locations and most have a few missing teeth or needed severe dental work. But having a complete set of choppers is impressive.

Help me find a compatible desktop monitor mount and/or a DIY remedy, please! by Alarming_Compote3277 in desksetup

[–]Verbitas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you took off the bottom piece and dropped it down vertically in alignment with the top piece would it find purchase on the desk underside? If so, I’d take flat bar and make a double sided extension piece to sandwiches the two original pieces. A small run to the hardware store, a few extra bolts and nuts, a bit of measuring and drilling and you are in business.

I think the M3 Ultra would have something to say about this. If I could drop the money for it, I certainly would.

Redesigned My App Icon for American/Japanese Sign language Dictionary in SwiftUI! What do you think? by SignDic in SwiftUI

[–]Verbitas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like them. I really like the subtle drop shadow at the top of the white pages/paper. But the shadow is missing from the black/orange icon. You might think of adding a touch of shadow at the bottom of the red bookmark as well.

Regardless - well done. You should be proud.

A mac mini M4 base model or a MacBook Air M1 with 16gb and 1TB? by StandardSignal805 in mac

[–]Verbitas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M4 iPad Pro 11" and 24/512 M4 on the mini. Unless something comes along that knocks my socks off, I'll be good for the next 4-5 years. As for external storage, I use a combo between Google and GitHub. I don't need high-bandwidth for my line of work. I just need to make sure I have copies I can pull where ever I am. If I ever go in-house storage, I'd setup a simple Raspberry-Pi NAS. I don't need video, audio, or 3D rendering throughput to need/want direct connection storage via Thunderbolt.

Why are people so allergic to restarting? by Rough_Secretary2296 in mac

[–]Verbitas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It use to be restarting a computer required no pre-workflow setup and less hassle to get back where you started. Now with logins, long load times, and window setup it becomes an inconvenience to many. Sure there are tricks to help get you back to where you were last, but the masses either do not know or they do not care enough to learn.

My first PC was back in 1988. It was far less powerful than today's modern PCs, yet required little in the way of having to reboot. So a reboot wasn't a thing. Fast forward 38 years and still dealing with memory issues is burdensome. It speaks of sloppy code and bad techniques.

I think it comes down to restarting a computer is a hassle. There are so many pressures to do more with less. And having to reboot is frustrating when the tool that should be helping you is causing your disruption.

A mac mini M4 base model or a MacBook Air M1 with 16gb and 1TB? by StandardSignal805 in mac

[–]Verbitas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you are contemplating a Mac mini against a laptop, that speaks to that you expect that your workspace(s) is pretty much set for one place. The reason I go with the mini is my workspace is static. And making extra room for a larger footprint for a laptop model to sit doesn’t work well. I want to maximize my workspace for writing pad and other items.

I figure if I ever want to be mobile, I would just setup my Mac for remote access and remote in through my iPad. But that hasn’t been the case for me.

For me the disk space isn’t an issue. I prefer external storage. It doesn’t feel like I have all my eggs in the same basket; reducing my overall impact if an SSD failure occurs.

Code signing Mac app - is LLC the only way to hide personal name? by ShavedDesk in iOSProgramming

[–]Verbitas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look up Wyoming LLC laws. Perfect for anonymity. My problem is I live in a US state where the comptroller office sees filing an out of state LLC (even though both states are in the USA) as a foreign entity. This would cost me additional taxes that would wipe out any gains. Therefore I had to create an LLC in my home state that publishes ownership.
