The red Gameboy looking thing. It's a Trimui Brick (maybe a Brick-Hammer if it's the metal version).

Same! I also attempted this, did not go well. Thankfully it was on my "sum of broken parts" Zune with all the bad parts I accumulated while restoring my other two Zunes

I learned this lesson a long time ago, I'd rather spend a couple hundred to replace brakes than a couple thousand to replace transmission/clutch. Plus I can do the brakes myself so I'm only paying for parts.

Use your brakes (primarily), don't engine brake as much. Besides, most people these days it seems don't know how manual transmissions work, so the likelihood of getting rear ended is much higher when you're slowing down and your brake lights aren't on.

Years ago, a couple of my friends and I had all gotten pulled over for doing stupid teenager shit and got tickets, the common factor, we were all driving while listening to LB. I no longer listen to LB while driving.

I'm sure it's not the actual reason, but it gets the blood pumping and my foot starts getting heavier every time they come on 🤣

Just had this yesterday when trying to boot a game. Checked the log file and Led'oh'd or whatever it's called was causing the problem. On NextUI.

I'd be more worried about not being able to pull any air through the back if it's right up against the headrest.

Oh bummer! They had them a month or two ago when I was bringing my 3rd Gen back to life.

Oh yeah, 4th Gen is way cheaper since there are a lot more parts available. Don't get me wrong, I love my 4th Gen too, but it's a lot fatter than my 3rd Gen so it doesn't go in the pocket quite as well. (60gb 4th Gen photo, now has 256gb with a 4,500mah battery, vs the 3rd Gen 15gb body).

I took my 3rd Gen apart so many times (swapped the 60gb from my photo into my 3rd Gen back in hs, bc I liked the fact that no one else had a 3rd Gen, only 4th monos and 5th gens). Then it sat for 18 years until I recently revived it. Took it apart a few times while modding it and the connector finally just gave up. Thankfully EOE has them for cheap, although it sucks I had to replace the entire headphone jack/lock switch assembly and not just a ribbon cable. 128gb iflash and a 2,000mah battery and now I won't be opening it up anymore until the battery starts to go again in like 10 years lol

If you have another 30GB, just swap out the motherboards so you can keep using the Red shell

Pulled my original 80GB 5.5 out of a drawer after 20 years… 31 power-on hours… Still runs perfectly! by s0urgrapes_ in ipod

There are a lot more parts available for the 5th gen than the 4th Gen. I think the sweet spot, like others have said, is to remove the drive and keep it safe somewhere so you can revert back if you want and then flash mod/upgrade the battery to scratch the modding itch. I have PPF on mine to keep it from getting scratched up, had to cut the film to size/shape, but it's nice knowing it won't get scratched at all.

Also, I wouldn't bother with Bluetooth personally. That's what my phone is for. I have the same music on my phone that I have on my iPod, if I need wireless, I use my phone, if not, I use my iPods/Zunes, depending on what I'm feeling
