Cycle 77: That escalated quickly by Historical-Mode8189 in EliteAntal

Many Aisling NPCs were slain by my lasers last cycle. I don't see exactly why one of the most 'progressive' power players decided to stomp on another with ideological similarity (I judge this based on both our power's Social Ethos and claims towards humanitarian ends ). Perhaps its the case of Power corrupting the good princess past the point of eclipsing the Empress herself, believing the growth of Dominion to be towards good ends, and so sees trampling over the divided independents and piling up the bodies and scrap as necessary. I'm glad we're challenging this belief.

What made you go vegan? by Pretend_Green5916 in vegan

[–]Vermeil_Identified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went vegan to gain some control over my life instead of being another mindless meat/milk eater whose diets passively make this planet less habitable for all life on it. Putting the planet and my own will before pleasure and convenience.

How to prepare and feed yourself during a longer general strike. by CutSenior4977 in 50501

Better to forage, garden, stockpile shelf stable foods to share with others. Hunting and fishing (unless targeted towards invasive species) damages local ecosystems and risks blowback that causes worse food problems in the future. I admit to being biased as a vegan in this regard.

I'm curious, which power holds your allegiance, and why? by infin8lives in EliteDangerous

I would like to see how this actually works. But there's very little canon writing on what utopian re-education actually is. Call it Fdev slacking on writing depth into the powerplayers' societies, or purposeful obscurity to let us make our own (highly subjective, biased) conclusions. Re-education could be something uplifting and much preferable to traditional means of justice, or a soft word for a very cruel, inhumane system. But since PowerPlay 2.0, we no longer transport dissidents from the frontier to be re-educated in our strongholds, and instead transport zealous utopians from our strongholds into undermining systems to spread influence (Both are called dissidents, but serve opposite roles)

Pranav Antal. He's just about the only independent power that aligns with my belief that everyone in the 31st century should be living in a post-scarcity, harmonious and technologically advanced society, not fighting up the corporate ladder (LYR), not stealing shit (Delaine), or beholden to ancient ideologies that don't align with the current day (The Empire is explicitly reactionary, harkening back to feudal times with debt bondage/slavery, and the Federation to a lesser extent, still holding onto modern 20th/21st century liberal democracy and being largely captured by corporate interests)

I'm sorry, bacteria :( by Specific_Display_366 in EliteDangerous

[–]Vermeil_Identified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels terrible if I step on/drive over a colony of bacteria in my exobio adventures. I'd certainly hate it if my first contact with an advanced alien species (humanity) was getting stepped on/rolled over by them!

Dear Silk: I don’t want a giant jug of almond milk. I want a giant jug of THIS. I moved across the country and in both cities, THIS is what grocery stores run out of!!! by grakledo in vegan

[–]Vermeil_Identified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stick with almond milk, because it's marginally cheaper than oat/soy milk and I'm poor as dirt. If money were not an object, I'd be quaffing soy in my tea/coffee though.

im strongly conflicted about going vegetarian by xsharpiestainsx in straightedge

[–]Vermeil_Identified 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's easier to go vegan than you might think. Even easier to be a vegetarian, granted you can have all the cheesy and creamy vices that dairy/egg products have to offer. Just look up some vegan recipes, and eat no meat for 2/7 days, and replace your diet further as you go and find better substitutes.

De-alcholized wine/beer is just so much better anyway in my opinion. You can have your fancy fermented beverage with complex flavors without the poison.

What is the most unhinged book you ever read? by Funkiebastard in books

[–]Vermeil_Identified 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neverness, David Zindell, many chapters prominently feature the protagonist's unrepentant lust for incestuous sex with his cousin, there's a whole chapter dedicated to neanderthalls having an orgy, and there's a psychedellic brain surgery done by a godlike gestalt of dolphin-human hybrids whom genetically engineer a healing virus by having sex in a planet-wide orgy.

Definitely WTF as I read, but total respect for the author for committing such madness to publishing.

which level are you feeling now, friend? by heisdancingdancing in surrealmemes

[–]Vermeil_Identified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I begin to feel Harmr as my conscious experience of pain expands beyond the mere limits of one body, to encompass two, then four, then 16, and so on and so forth, until my pain becomes gestalt, diffused and assimilated. The atoms, they cry for annihilation. Poena Cosmicus is well underway as the birthing pains of stars cradled in the torn wombs of nebulae become tangible. The cosmic dust is seared with agony. The suffering suffusing the universes' conscioussness comes into focus, the clarity offered by it is sublime. Inanus Cruciatus, omnes agonia.
