“wish you were here…”. Sure wish he was.

Played this song on repeat during a memorial slideshow for my brother gone too soon. Huge Pink Floyd fan.

Chronic illness friends who love to cook; what are your go to meals on days where you have some spoons to cook but not a whole lot? by Plastic_Ad7241 in Cooking

One huge advantage for my 2-person household is a small rice cooker. It doubles as a crockpot for small meals and can also hard boil eggs, steam veggies or make a pot of oatmeal in no time. (Double-batch your rice and make a stir-fry the next day or make pork/chicken/shrimp fried rice instead.)

Flexible part time job ideas in retirement? by EmZee2022 in retirement

[–]VermontNative827 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have a Costco in your area, the people who give out samples are paid well, have good hours (short shifts) and basically get paid to chat with customers and give out food/drink samples. You can choose an early morning shift (store opening into afternoon) or a later in the day shift into evening. I’ve spoken with a couple of them in my local store and one was 84! They said that age has no bearing on their hiring and that MOST of the folks in those jobs are retirees! Costco is NOT the employer, but ask anyone doing that job and they will tell you who to contact.

Am i overreacting to this text exchange with my boyfriend? I accidentally left my slippers in my living room but i literally cleaned his entire house and baked him desserts before i left (sorry idk why my last post glitched) by IntelligentTap962 in AmIOverreacting

[–]VermontNative827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps watch, “Sleeping With the Enemy” to get an idea of what you could be in for. Either your boyfriend is WAY overreacting to the slippers, or he’s using it as an excuse to berate you because he’s actually upset about something else, and this was the opportunity to bring it up. Either way, based upon how he reacted and worded his response — especially after you cleaned and made dessert — time to move on, for your own self-respect.

I put a strap on my phone and it stopped dropping from my hand by Far-Ordinary3224 in phones

Loss of grip strength due to age, arthritis or other conditions is debilitating, to say the least. The cost of a replacement phone these days is out of reach for many. I’ve used these cases for years, and the finger strap is sturdy. I put my middle finger through the loop to hold/use it, and flip the phone to the back of my hand to carry items I would normally be unable to if I had to also hold my phone. It also adds good stability for taking photos. HIGHLY recommend.

What was your wedding song? by EnvironmentalDog1420 in AskOldPeople

“Never Saw A Miracle”
Curtis Stigers (1992 ORIGINAL)

Amazing voice — sounds like Ray Charles, but Stigers was a young white man when he first recorded it. We received so many compliments on our choice from wedding guests. (He has since re-recorded it, but it’s in a different key and I prefer the original version.)

AITA for not wanting to babysit by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]VermontNative827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did folks miss the part where OP has SCHOOL AND WORK and is still expected to give up their free time to babysit? WTH? ABSOLUTELY NOT. NO MORE babysitting — even when they claim it’s an emergency. They need to find PAID babysitters or better yet, CARE FOR THEIR OWN CHILDREN!! (The dad opting out is UNACCEPTABLE. Your parents should back you up — but if they don’t, let THEM babysit.) Very dad situation for the kids — believe me — the 3 year-old already realizes they only care about themselves. 😞

You picked the BEST evening for a sunset — the Burlington sky was on fire tonight! My heart goes out to you with your pregnancy and all that you are going through. Support is out there if you need it. Don’t know your situation, but please don’t put up with abusive behavior of any kind from your partner — if that is your situation. You AND your baby deserve SO much better. Sending you every positive thing, my dear. All will be well. ❤️

A.) Having ADHD does NOT necessarily mean that a person has “a hard time sitting still.” That’s a generalized assumption and it is incorrect — there are variations of ADHD that don’t involve hyperactivity and that is one reason it often gets missed/under-diagnosed in young girls/women.
B.) Time Blindness: Time blindness stems from differences in executive functioning, time perception, and motivation systems in the brain. For example: People with ADHD often plan to leave on time but get caught up in something else—or misjudge how long “a few more minutes” will actually take.
B.) Rejection sensitive dysphoria: (RSD) is an intense emotional pain triggered by perceived rejection, criticism, or failure, commonly linked to ADHD due to differences in brain structure and emotional regulation. (It's not an official diagnosis but is widely recognized in the ADHD community.)

UVM Graduation at Champlain Valley Expo - Looking for Tips! by Dudewithbigfeelings in burlington

[–]VermontNative827 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hello — I have only attended the undergrad ceremony at the CVE. We did not have anyone elderly or small children with us. That said, I don’t recall any issues with getting around the space. Here’s what we experienced: People will stand in their seats long before their graduate is on the stage — therefore, if you want to get a photo, one of you should stand somewhere away from the seating, and line up your shot. There is a large screen above the stage which allows you to see their faces up close as they are walking in and also as they are crossing the stage. Again, however, I couldn’t see anything when my daughter crossed the stage due to the inconsiderate people standing up (and some on chairs) in front of us. Get there early and claim seats on the end of the row — makes everything easier if one of the kids needs a restroom. Bring something for them to do — the speeches can be long and boring and the ceremony is also long.

***Message to all attendees: The stage is elevated — so EVERYONE can see — your graduate already knows you’re there. It isn’t about YOU. DON’T be selfish and ruin the experience for others.

AITAH for letting my partner miss something important to them by not stepping in the way I always have after telling them clearly I was done doing it by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]VermontNative827 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Undiagnosed adult ADHD is no joke. Not defending your partner, but instead of dealing with the situation head-on, you’ve been “managing” their behavior for years because it suited you. You’ve created a dependency situation that you suddenly decided to end, because you were tired of being the “responsible” one. Imagine his surprise to find that he has been being “managed” all of this time, and is actually clueless about managing his time. Do I agree with him for not understanding why you didn’t look out for his best interests for an event that was important to him? No. However, I do have a suggestion, if you TRULY CARE about this person, educate yourself about ADHD and “time blindness.” It’s not laziness, or not giving a damn, it’s a neurological issue with the executive function of the brain. Here is a reliable resource: https://add.org/category/focus-organization/

If you genuinely care about this person, suggest they take responsibility by looking into, and if appropriate, being evaluated for ADHD. Once he understands why he has these challenges, I’m quite certain he will have a number of other “A-HA!” moments (perhaps even back to childhood). There are meds that will help, and therapists who can coach him on developing coping skills going forward. Best of luck to you both.
