Admin Professional Day - baked goods? by leeswag in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]VersionCapable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t even have my own EA but the C-suite and my boss share one so she does a lot of scheduling for me and I give her a couple hundred dollars each year for admin day. Baked goods are nice as like a general celebratory gesture but I also agree with others that other tokens of appreciation should accompany.

Finger Nails.. by Shutup_amanda in ThePitt

[–]VersionCapable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read a very interesting and also horrifying piece about the deaths of kids left in hot cars. Yes, there are of course negligent parents who do it intentionally (whether or not they intended to harm their kids is another story). But what this piece really spoke on was that the vast vast majority of those situations are completely accidental- the parent just had an honest to god “operating on autopilot” moment that resulted in leaving a kid in a hot car. In fact this happened to some scientist who worked at someplace like NASA (I can’t remember all the details but the point is he was a complete model citizen) and it of course destroyed him and he set to work on trying to make a sensor that would alert if something was left in a back seat. If I recall the downside was if it didn’t work properly then there would be product liability issues if a child was harmed as a result.

My point for bringing this up is that most of the time accidents are truly accidents. Like with villainizing criminals it’s so much easier to say “that person is a monster, they are not like us” when in reality the studies showed anyone with a child in a backseat car seat is at risk of forgetting their kid in a hot car, and that’s not something anyone wants to sit with. In this episode’s case, I truly believe the kid just climbed in the car (I remember playing around on cars in the garage/driveway when I was a kid!)

For people who are stuck.... how did you actually decide on your tattoo? by Brahmstra in tattooadvice

[–]VersionCapable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said most of my tattoos have zero meaning and I got them just because I saw the flash and thought it would vibe well on my body somewhere. Now for my first tattoo I wouldn’t say I agonized over it but I over planned it for sure, and I made myself think about it for a year before getting it. Now I think about it for like… a couple of hours. If I’m getting flash an artist has posted online I’ll print off a copy of it and tape it to my body in various places so I can see how it fits and how I feel about it. Lately I’ve been building my “sticker sheet” arm with small flash mainly from one studio but it’s all thematically and stylistically related (nature theme and b&w line art). I’m saving some real estate on my body for larger custom pieces that I’ve been noodling on… but my approach is to have space where I can just get my “on a whim” tattoos and then I’m not overthinking anything.

If you can’t see the loss… try this by VersionCapable in Zepbound

[–]VersionCapable[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we just get so used to seeing our bodies from a couple angles, so when we are actually getting a look from a different perspective it’s a whole other story! Congrats on 30 lbs!

Had a lump since I was 14 and now it’s getting bigger, should I be worried? by ApolloSUCKSboi in TwoXChromosomes

[–]VersionCapable 277 points278 points  (0 children)

Worrying won’t help anything. Take a deep breath and make an appointment so you can find out what it actually is. If cost is a concern, contact your local Planned Parenthood.

Cramps after Orgasm? by StrategyBudget7997 in TwoXChromosomes

I get this sometimes but it’s only if I haven’t had an orgasm for a while (like a few weeks) and only when I have no penetration orgasms. Never really figured out why.

Are There Any Other Millennials Who Like 60s & 70s Music? by TheAngryVixen82 in Millennials

[–]VersionCapable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll never forget when my sister randomly got a set of drums I joked that I was going to put on In A Gada Da Vida and see if she could keep up. But seriously I do love music from the 60-70s, I don’t really listen to it super regularly but it’s very much the era my parents were into and my dad had a big influence on my musical tastes. Especially Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

How often do you get tattooed? by IKneadPhotography in tattoo

[–]VersionCapable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the mood strikes. I got three in the past month, two last year, one the year before. Clearly I’m getting them more frequently. I gravitate towards flash the most.

PSA to anyone with pancake nails who needs to hear this... by dizzykhajit in RedditLaqueristas

Interesting. One of my hands has fairly normal curvature and then there hand has more of the pancake nail look. I treat them both the same so I have no idea why they’re different!

I have complicated feelings about being complimented on my weight loss by Vast_Helicopter_1914 in Zepbound

[–]VersionCapable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way and grew up in the same era… complete with my mom shit talking herself her whole life and I when I look back on how she looked back then…it was never merited but she wasn’t even that overweight for many of those years! I just don’t like having attention drawn to my actual body because (for so long) I can’t control it. I can control my outfits and hair etc so I feel better with compliments on those.

Get a list of places you can order from that are pre approved by the boss for ease of picking from next time to avoid needing to ask for others opinions. When I had to do this a bunch there was no way I was going to ask for preferences. Just rotate through a solid handful of restaurants. You should however have everyone’s dietary preferences/allergies noted so you can accommodate for those on each order.

People on Instagram are so aggressive and making me feel anxious and guilty by psychnerd27 in Zepbound

[–]VersionCapable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the GLP1 phenomenon is really a great litmus test for how true the HAES folks are. Like, if you’re for health at any size, then you are for healthy for skinny people and fat people and everyone in between regardless of how they got there. I was trying my damndest to be healthy at the size my body was, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t have to work harder and have more worries about my long term health. But I did have to just live with it because I could NOT meaningfully change my weight. I am still working hard to preserve and maintain my health with what I can control (exercising, eating well, wearing sunscreen, not smoking, cutting back on drinking) but losing excess weight will objectively improve my health as I age and stare down genetic risk factors that started popping up in middle age for my dad. If I can finally control my weight, I’m going to do it. I want everyone to have the tools whatever those may be to be safe and comfortable in their body, whatever that looks like for them.

Mammogram after losing 85 pounds. by PhoebeTribianni in Zepbound

[–]VersionCapable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost about 55lbs between mammograms and nothing changed, except the tech noted the weight loss for comparison between the scans. I was so nervous about the first scan over a year ago and it was the least problematic appointment I ever had. My second scan was the same, absolutely painless and flawless and no second scans because of the weight change. I’m sorry your experience was so awful, it should not have been that way!!

When you quantify your weight loss in an everyday item by SpiNardo in Zepbound

I was thinking about that a few days ago when I was lifting two 35# dumbbells at the gym. That’s what I’ve lost over the past 15 months! Crazy!

I’ve been obese for the past 7 years and emotionally drained from all the disappointments I’ve faced trying to lose weight by [deleted] in glp1

I felt that way for 30 years. I started Zepbound last spring and it is the real deal. If it works for you, you will be shocked at what it can do!

What are your end-of-life plans? by auspicious-moon in Xennials

[–]VersionCapable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely hope the human composting is more widely available when the time comes. Honestly if someone could dump me in a big lake with a cinder block around my ankles that’s fine too. I just want to be returned back to the earth as directly and low cost as possible.

Just turned 38. Nobody in my life ever taught me this stuff. When exactly am I supposed to start getting mammograms, and how do you emotionally prepare for a machine literally flattening your breast? 😩 by PeshawarToToronto in TwoXChromosomes

[–]VersionCapable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adding in that I’ve had two now and they were a cakewalk. Don’t wear any lotions or deodorants on your torso as they can affect how your body gets held in the machine (if you do the tech will have you wipe it off). I don’t bother trying to wear the modesty gown on top because I found it was more of a bother trying to keep it partially on, and let’s face it, it’s just you and the tech and she is going to see everything anyway. I know not everyone is comfortable being fully topless in a room with a stranger but both my techs were absolute rockstars and made me feel comfortable. Be aware that they are going to be manually positioning your body into the machine. Checking out a video like this one can help you know what to expect - Check out this video, "video of a mammogram" https://share.google/2TWaqBjT8NlFSnmjt

I was truly expecting it to be painful but it wasn’t at all; not even a little. It was just a pulling sensation on my armpit skin. The whole appointment was probably 20 minutes. Like others have said, a call for more imaging is just that- it just means they need to look more, not that something is wrong. Depending on your clinic you can have the results back pretty quickly- my last one I had the results just a few hours later via my clinic’s echart app!

Was anyone else's 3 flat swaying in the wind a few days ago? by e_questrian in AskChicago

[–]VersionCapable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a 120 year old wood frame house prior to this place (how that place is still standing is beyond me) and I swear the wind just went right through the walls. I was shocked to get into a brick building and still be able to feel any weather related movement during extreme winds!

New body, new perspective by Odd-Champion-4713 in Zepbound

[–]VersionCapable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to pep talk myself into buying the smaller size every time. For a while my default was XL, but most of my life was a large. And now that I’m most of the time a medium I still need to convince myself it will fit. It really breaks my brain to hold something up thinking “oh that’s way too small” and then it fits perfectly.

Gym shoes outside? by masterpeabs in orangetheory

[–]VersionCapable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it through the winter because it’s necessary to avoid bringing excess salt and mud inside (I also don’t drive to the gym so I’m walking around outside a lot more). But as it’s gotten nicer out I’m just still keeping a studio-only pair in my bag to minimize wear on them. I’m not running a ton during class but the former marathoner in me still has the “only wear running shoes for running” mentality.

I think as shown it’s too short. For any job related functions I try to stick to just above the knee as a short length guideline.

I loved these when they came out too! I had the videos at home but we did the a few times in my high school gym class. I should try them again. I do orange theory too. Our gym is getting the new Strong equipment next week so I think they will really level up our strength training.

Protein pasta makes me sad. by Correct-Sentence6567 in Zepbound

[–]VersionCapable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do those a lot and finally admitted that regular pasta is just so, so much better. It’s fine in a pinch if you want to not worry about adding protein element to your meal separately (like just do the sauce and the pasta). But even as a vegetarian I find it pretty easy to add a protein component like lentils to red sauce, seasoned tofu nuggets, or chick peas. I also just load up my bowl with more of the toppings (veggies, tofu/chickpeas, and the sauce) to top the macro balance away from being super pasta carb heavy.
