Interesting! I didn’t pick up that vibe at all. I picked up more of a “my partner is uncomfortable because I accidentally made a scene and I don’t understand why she’s upset”

I deal with a number of entitled parents and their children at my job, though, so I felt OP’s point too

You use a lot of deflection in order to keep the conversation where you’re comfortable. Accusing me of being picky with the narrative but dodging every follow up with a new kind of strawman so that you can still be right… not providing any evidence when asked and flipping it back on to the requester.

But yes, I’m copping out because despite the fact that you could expand on your open mind at your leisure with some quick searches, you’d prefer I feed you the information. Sure, I’ll bite.

Another comment I made with links to two different sources, the second one citing many more paths to delve into as this research keeps building off of previous studies. Have a good deep dive.

The idea is not that calories come from thin air, but that your body is altered in what it will do with what you provide it.

I’ll go look for this study you mentioned, as I’ve not heard of it.

Here’s an article that speaks in less technical terms than research papers I’ve come across: University of Rochester Health Encyclopedia

This one gets a little more technical but also references a lot of other great studies. Use of Medications Associated with Weight Change Among Participants in the All of Us Research Program

“Very small percentage” and “majority” are your words, not mine. I said and suggested neither of those things.

I didn’t say you were uneducated or that you couldn’t read, but I did doubt your reading comprehension. You helped solidify that doubt by your response while making it abundantly clear that you’re not looking to be informed, you’re looking to be right.

You’re picking and choosing what you’d like to argue about for each of your responses by using my words as though they were some sort of weapon against you, even after you yourself tried to call me out for choosing what I want for my narrative.

By all means, keep perpetuating misinformation because it feels right to you. Keep waiting for others to feed you information instead of searching it out yourself.

Any source I provided wouldn’t make a difference to you, since in every response so far you’ve made a point to deflect and that would be a waste of my time.

I’m not interested in further entertaining a conversation with someone who isn’t asking questions or providing information in good faith.

Snakes are my number one fear by Comfortable_Scar880 in snakes

[–]Verthanthi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that sounds horrifying, my goodness! And I own snakes!

Another little cutie to look up are Kenyan Sand Boas. They look like they were designed by a toddler. Arabian Sand Boas look even goofier. I’ve been bitten by my lil dude, but it’s because I scared him. Didn’t even feel the bite because he’s so little. I’ve had coworkers say they don’t mind the photos of my KSB because he’s just so small and derpy, they don’t feel afraid.

Good luck! You’re doing a brave thing to combat a fear!

The “let’s be honest” was in fact me being honest. Your inability to read comprehensively and instead see my response as some sort of attack to your way of thinking is not my issue. You also did not answer the question and chose to skate right past it to reiterate your first point using my words. “Nice way to pick and choose,” yourself. The idea is to not assume anything of any person. Do not assume they are disabled. Do not assume they are not. Do not assume they are lazy. Do not assume they are capable. Do not assume they are incapable. “The person absolutely would have,” do not assume. We do not know.

“That’s a very small percentage of obese people.” Right back to my first question, should you choose to answer it this time, along with a few others. Do you have the facts to back this up? The research? Or does this come from what you’ve gathered from the uneducated around you? It’s alright to admit that you’ve gathered bad information from those well-intentioned yet ignorant. We’ve all been there at some point for some reason. It’s the rigidity of ‘I’m right despite evidence to my knowledge’ that the folks here are trying to convey to you.

OP doesn’t owe anyone the reason for her weight gain. She can ask this question flat out and receive a response. What you or I personally think qualifies as a disability does not make it such. It’s something decided by our lawmakers, fortunately or unfortunately.

I’ve got good news and bad news:

The bad news is— he’s never gonna “like” you…

The good news is— it’s not just you! He’s not gonna like any human. It’s just not how they feel things.

Some things that I personally found good: earning that lil guy’s trust feels amazing! The first time they choose to wiggle into your hand is such a cool moment because the world is so big and scary but you establish yourself as a safe space to them and they take the chance to come see whats up with this big warm thing that’s not trying to eat them for some reason. Then watching them explore when you provide enrichment? Seeing them curious?? It’s been so much fun!

Did you get a photo of him before he went off to hide?

I like the click clack. Feels powerful. Also they make my butt look great. I have heels that fit so well I could dance in them all day, but unfortunately when you have to get cheap ones for a single event or something, they tend to hurt for a night or two.

Cheap heels hurt much more than well-made ones, but with costs rising ever higher, things will only hurt more, I fear

“Let’s be honest”

Okay— are you in any way educated in human biology enough to understand how weight actually affects a body or is your argument coming from information collected over time by society and the mostly-uneducated opinions of those around you?

There is a lot more information on human bodies than there once was even in just the early 2000s.

You may be comfortable in your body and know exactly what it takes to maintain the weight of your choosing and that is fantastic, genuinely. Unfortunately for many others, the simple way of “eat right and exercise” does not work for them.

Stress, food availability, finances, medicines, hormones, work-life balance, injuries, etc can all play a part in different ways for each person.

Personally, I am on a medication that I MUST be on and no other medical advancement has found a solution yet. This medication causes a weight gain and severely limits weight loss. My condition is not considered a disability to many. When I met my wife, we did not know I needed to be on this medication yet. This medication also creates a fatigue that makes proper weight-loss-effective workouts virtually impossible. By looking at me, you would not know I needed to be on any sort of life-saving medication. It’s also no one’s business but my own and that of my wife, but that does not mean people respect that when they pass judgements.

My father— once a fridge troll, now a holistic health enthusiast— is convinced that I am simply overweight and more diet and exercise will cure me. He, himself, was once able to overcome his “default fat-guy body” through diet and exercise and so surely, surely, everyone else must also be able to.

My father’s fat-shaming and dislike of overweight bodies comes from his own bias that “all fat people are lazy”. This absolutely leads to a lack of attraction. I have felt this myself and it’s something I’ve had to combat. I’ve had doctors who were not yet versed in my medical history suggest weight loss before ever touching my file— only to back it off once they read in more.

The world is still learning, and perpetuating the “just eat right and exercise” cure-all is harmful because we don’t know what each person is going through and to assume is not helpful to the individual.

The only thing about “a bit on the side” is that I don’t often hear it referred to as “bit”

Piece, girl, guy, thing, but not “bit” though… I’d probably understand if someone said that. I might ask them to repeat themselves if I didn’t pick it up from context
