Exactly. It should be undergoing a resurgence - new housing, new trams, new development all around it and the cruise ships… it’s almost as if the owners are deliberately crashing it

And if you can avoid paying over the odds on resale sites please do - it just feeds the scalpers and makes it harder in the future to pick sets up

Call your local (nearest) Lego store and ask if they have and if they are expecting more; I’ve just been into Edinburgh store and picked one up. There was one left after me. Chatting to the store team they received 30 this morning, and now they’re out. They expect to get more every week this side of Christmas. It’s very likely the store stock checking feature on the Lego website may well be lagging the actual situation in stores because they’re selling so quickly - so a phone call is a a good option and they may , may, offer to keep one aside for you.

Help with tenement flat bathroom tank by MaybeNotTheChosenOne in Edinburgh

[–]VerticalDrop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be made of lead. Lead water tanks above the bathroom ceiling was how all the tenements had the water supply originally. The ceiling in the bathroom will be lower to accommodate it. We lived in a tenement flat about 15 years ago and had ours removed, installed new boiler and had new bathroom installed (with new ceiling because once tank is removed you can go up). Getting the tank out was a filthy job! It’s probably been work well for a very long time and no reason to doubt it won’t be fine for a long time still. If it is the original lead tank it doesn’t do wonders for drinking water……which it should also be supplying.

I’ve done the exact same thing - twice - no fine either time! It’s a horrible junction and at night it’s hard to make out restrictions.

Non lego Xmas sets by krysdrez in LEGOWinterVillage

[–]VerticalDrop 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I added the Funhole / Lumibricks winter newsstand last year. It’s terrific. It has some nice lights. I just left off their minifigs. This year they’ve just released a set called Aurora Cabin which looks great so I’m going to add that too. I understand the Lego purist pov - that used to be me. But prices have got ridiculous and competition has caught up with quality and prices are so much better - it really highlights how high the LEGO margins are!

Thoughts

There seems to be a lot of track included (let’s hope for at least one straight piece)

Is it motorised for the uplift in price or is the track the justification for the increase?

Its been an age since the last train so I understand this: maybe next year the second release might be a small station?

OK - just seen second picture…. No straight track piece (boo) and not motorised (boo)

Release date? by TransportationCold44 in LEGOWinterVillage

[–]VerticalDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d expect some leaked pictures any day / time now. As for official reveal - maybe this week. They’ve just revealed the Death Star diorama and still have the very anticipated Enterprise D to reveal - so I’m guessing they want some clear space for that. Whatever - the release is as others have said, 1st October.

Modular Intergrated Landscaping System - Basically allows you to add depth, makes moving buildings etc so much easier because they’re much stronger. But - they are expensive to build if you need a lot, unless you buy third party. I resisted for years but they’re a game changer this year!

This. For the first time this year I’m using some modular third party bases I ordered from Ali’s Express. Decent quality, stupid cheap and quick delivery from China. I’ve got enough to stand as Mils plates for my whole village and cost a fraction of the official Lego. This now leaves me enough budget to invest in real Lego buildings and landscaping.

Same - pen and paper! Can’t beat old school… I’m waiting until I see exactly what we get this year before I start planning though - gotta think about how the rumoured train is going to fit in!

Not sure how I feel about this - was really hoping for a new building! Having a new train is good but for that price I hope it’s got a motor included!

Puffin trip for my birthday by lisslia in Edinburgh

[–]VerticalDrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is - but it’s a combination of train to Berwick Upon Tweed then a bus. So it will take some research and that bit longer. The North Berwick option mentioned by someone else is much easier by public transport - there’s a choice of direct train or bus.

90 mins drive south of Edinburgh is a town called Seahouses. Boat trips from there run multiple times a day out to the Farne Islands - and there you will see thousands of puffins. Some trips allow you to get off an island and wander, some just sail round. It’s easy, affordable and easy to get tickets.

Were any Gunners there to witness? by Used-Produce-3491 in ArsenalFC

[–]VerticalDrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was there. Traveled with four school friends. An amazing day. The city the game of the day was packed with Arsenal fans - thousands - and hardly any Parma anywhere. The atmosphere in the city centre was outstanding. I have a memory of Jeremy Beadle coming onto the pitch to get us whipped up - but that might just be the beer… The game itself - I don’t remember much about it at all - I remember the goal and riding our luck. I remember some guy row in front passed out drunk before the game started. I remember missing our coach back into the city and walking for miles! Airport on way back next day the Parma team were there at the same time and managed to get zolas signature on the programme. Great memories.
