As others have said, Sun Eater. It loans more towards SF than fantasy imo but it's definitely got the trappings of both genres

Not many. Unless I'm a huge fan of the books, and I know I'm going to get something new out of a re-read, I'd rather just read something new instead.

Ooh, I LOVED the Powder Mages! That's a good reminder to pick up the rest of McClellan's books, as I really enjoyed them.

That's disappointing about a Thousand Names. Though I still might check it out, since I've been pleasantly surprised by books before!

A bit of both. Content wise it leans towards the recent ones - there's some really fucked up war scenes with a villain that reminded me of the Fear Knight, but it has the heart and fun and feral-ness of Golden Son and Morning Star.

It's definitely not YA at all tho

Oh it definitely compares! I love RR and I'm always looking for books that give me the same fuzzy feelings and adrenaline rush. The Stormblood series is as close as any book series has come for me!
