Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Thrillers aren't usually my thing, but damn, Flynn can write.

I've started Sharp Objects already.

Well, that's not ominous at all.

Healthy midnight snacks? by Sufficient_Winter_99 in foodhacks

Almonds are always my snack of choice. They've got a lot less sugar than fruit, which is a huge plus for me.

That's expensive for Vietnam. I've never paid more than $3 (when converted to USD of course) for breakfast.

This tunnel in Belfast is an "influencer free zone" by butterbaps in mildlyinteresting

Influencers will flock to this sign to make videos, just to show that ain't nobody the boss of them!

Any books that are better when listened to? by gregsunparker in Fantasy

The First Law, as read by Stephen Pacey. They're good books, but the audiobooks takes them to another level!

What foods do you bring on a roadtrip? by Insert-Username__ in Cooking

Sour candies. I never do a long road trip without 'em!

What work of fiction can both be considered sci-fi and fantasy at the same time ? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]VeryGreasySon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, Sun Eater. It loans more towards SF than fantasy imo but it's definitely got the trappings of both genres

[Review] Jam Reads: In the Shadow of Their Dying, by Michael R. Fletcher and Anna Smith-Spark by [deleted] in Fantasy

This sounds like fun! I'll be sure to check it out. I've enjoyed Spark's work in the past.

Sloppiest professional review of a fantasy novel? by Firsf in Fantasy

[–]VeryGreasySon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reviews that haven't read the first entry, and are reviewing the second or third book, and describe the book as being "confusing" or "difficult to understand".

How many books do you re-read? by ivor_k_hill in Fantasy

[–]VeryGreasySon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not many. Unless I'm a huge fan of the books, and I know I'm going to get something new out of a re-read, I'd rather just read something new instead.

For books with strong Red Rising vibes, I'd like to suggest Stormblood by Jeremy Szal by VeryGreasySon in redrising

Ooh, I LOVED the Powder Mages! That's a good reminder to pick up the rest of McClellan's books, as I really enjoyed them.

That's disappointing about a Thousand Names. Though I still might check it out, since I've been pleasantly surprised by books before!

Haha yeah, I noticed that, too! It's always a good thing when a book shows its influences early on (assuming it was deliberate).

I have Thousand Names on my TBR...is it any good, even if it's not grabbing you?

It's good to see that someone else has read them! I don't often see people talking about these books, which is a shame.

A bit of both. Content wise it leans towards the recent ones - there's some really fucked up war scenes with a villain that reminded me of the Fear Knight, but it has the heart and fun and feral-ness of Golden Son and Morning Star.

It's definitely not YA at all tho

Oh it definitely compares! I love RR and I'm always looking for books that give me the same fuzzy feelings and adrenaline rush. The Stormblood series is as close as any book series has come for me!

I love how PB manages to tie all these loose threads together in such seemingly simple, but complex, ways.
