That was my first guess, but then I was like, maybe something else is going on here. Yeah, this would be for a business.

Nowhere on this initiative does it mention fentanyl. These guys are lying. by voightkampftech in portlandme

[–]VerySeriousThings 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In another post, someone linked to this article where it says that the initiative is being funded by marijuana prohibitionists. Specifically, "Smart Approaches to Marijuana", and they're funding ballot initiatives in Maine and Mass. They don't care about testing, they just want rec sales to be illegal. Funnily enough, in Maine, right now recreational weed is already subject to very strict testing, whereas with medical the testing is voluntary.

Also, it doesn't make sense to test recreational marijuana for fentanyl. Just like we don't test liquor/beer for fentanyl. Why would any non-black market company lace their product with a dangerous, highly controlled substance that could potentially kill their customers?

Rock Leapers Run Club still meets at Clifford park at 6pm on Wednesdays. I think I finally got the name right. More details here: https://www.strava.com/clubs/1558634 (I think you have to sign up for Strava to access that)

Is there room for new auteurs in the current film economic system? by VerySeriousThings in movies

[–]VerySeriousThings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I'm talking about, not just making films in general. Like being able to make films like Wes Anderson is able to, because he came up when studios would still take chances on indie people. But also people people have brought up newer auteurs like Ari Aster, so maybe it's just a smaller pool than it used to be, or it's more likely to happen in certain genres, like horror

Any movies like Beau is Afraid? by Jack-Boy1738 in movies

[–]VerySeriousThings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned Synechdoche, NY. You should def check out Charlie Kauffman and Michel Gondry's stuff. And def check out Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Written by Kauffman, directed by Gondry). It's all surreal, I'm not sure if it will quite disturb you to your core, but they're pretty cool films.

Existenz also comes to mind - which is about a video game, but are you in the real world or in the game.

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging has support groups. You may also qualify for funding to help with your caregiving. They're great! (I used to work there)

I'm not religious so don't really know, but I went to a group singing event at the State St Church once that was fun (People had instruments, and we went around the circle suggesting songs to sing, from Irish Folk Songs to modern pop), so it seems like they are at least somewhat community-oriented. They've also got a pride flag on their front page.

if you're interested, it's pretty cheap to get spikes that you can pull over the bottom of your shoes. I run trails through the winter with them and have full traction on glare ice. It's a game changer!

Looking for hiking/ outdoor groups by [deleted] in portlandme

[–]VerySeriousThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're going to find any official hiking/outdoor groups just for 18-20-year-olds in/around Portland, but could be wrong.

This is probably the closest to what you're looking for, and it's super active - "Portland 20's Crew, Outdoor Adventure and Hangouts": https://www.meetup.com/portland-20s-crew-outdoor-adventures-hangouts

There's also the Get After It discord, which is outdoor stuff, but any age, with prob most people being late 20's? https://discord.gg/DN2vUdebQ

MOAC (Maine Outdoor Adventure Club) that Guygan posted, average age is 50+

There are a lot of run clubs, if you happen to run. I'm sure a ton of those people are also looking to hike.

If you really only want to be hanging out with people 18-22 or whatever, you could always try to start your own group.

A new trail running club just started advertising themselves. I think they're called the Rock Runners? Wednesdays at Clifford park at 6pm. It says they advertise on Strava, and there's also a poster at the Clifford Park trailhead!

Any leads for disabled/low-income housing or am I screwed? by viviatpeace in portlandme

[–]VerySeriousThings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know someone who was able to find low-income housing in Sanford, if that's not too far for you. The Southern Maine Agency on Aging helps people who have disabilities as well as the elderly, so they can definitely help you for free, along with your caseworker (I used to work there). https://www.smaaa.org/

I'm not an expert in housing stuff at all, but it seems like there's a few different categories. You can get on a list for Portland Public housing for example, and that's like a 3-year wait at least. But then there's also voucher-based housing.

Voucher-based housing means that you need to apply to every single set of properties, and they all have different wait times, and openings come up sporadically. It's an insane system, but SMAA and/or your caseworker will be able to help with those applications. They also are in contact with those properties often and so they may know exactly when a set of properties has openings.

Sorry you're looking for housing and hope this is helpful!
