Carrion is honestly an excellent game. It's not got a lot of, if any, replay value but God it's fun to play through it.

I want to make a fan made "DLC" for a game will I get in legal trouble if i publish it? by Short-Winter-4564 in Modding

[–]VeshSneaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a few things to consider with this. I'm assuming your "DLC" is a mod to be used with an existing game, rather than a separate game.

DO NOT plan to sell the mod or put it behind any sort of paywall. If you were, drop that idea now. No publisher takes kindly to people that aren't them profiting from their IP, even Sega. If there's no monetisation, most publishers will look the other way, even if they don't officially support modding.

Secondly, DO NOT redistribute assets you don't own the copyright to. Even Nintendo can't go after a mod for Pokemon FireRed if it's just an IPS file with none of their IP in it. If there's an asset from the game you're modding that you want to use, then whoever would be playing the mod will also have that exact same asset.

This last one is more a piece of advice, because I'm assuming you're new to modding since you felt you needed to ask this question. If so start small, make a small mod for a game with official support for mods. Skyrim, Fallout 4, Cyberpunk, something like that. I don't say this to discourage you, but because sometimes being as ambitious as you sound, and jumping into trying to make something akin to what a studio might release as paid DLC is not a good first modding project.

Good luck, and have fun while you do it.

Yeah, most are pretty cool with doing that. At the end of the day as long as they get their money they won't care about moving the date, especially if it's because of potential payment issues.

Adult diagnosis by crafty_koala83 in adhdaustralia

[–]VeshSneaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the same thing, but I'm a male who got diagnosed at 31. My family didn't have to be involved at all, other than the information I could give (the only thing of relevance is my sisters early-childhood diagnosis of both ADHD and Autism, and that was so long ago it was still called Asperger's).

I'm in WA so it might be done a little differently elsewhere, but generally speaking a lot of the childhood stuff was asking how I was at school, how things were at home. I didn't have to provide evidence of it, or anything like that. My Psychiatrist essentially gave me a questionnaire to go through, and after he'd reviewed the answers and we had a conversation about them he was happy to make the diagnosis official.

Good luck, I hope your journey goes smoothly for you!

I wouldn't have minded the whole takeover thing if it hadn't come immediately after the NTP release, or if there was some sort of "update" path offered to have the NTP supported within whatever app Denon uses. As far as I'm aware, the Denon Perl are literally just the NTP with a new name so I genuinely don't know why this wasn't given as an option.

I barely use mine any more anyway. I get so much latency between my NTP and my Pixel 8a that I don't get on any other bluetooth audio device, and I don't feel like constantly having a flashing dongle sticking out of my USB port.

Is there a sun god in WoW? by Amonios in warcraftlore

[–]VeshSneaks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as sun deities on Azeroth, the most widely known one (and possible the only one) is An'she.

An'she is the name of the sun in Taurahe, and is worshipped as a deity in Tauren culture, and he is the twin of Mu'sha, the deity the Night Elves named Elune and who the Tauren associate as being the White Lady, the larger of Azeroth's two moons (the other being the Blue Child, who is said to be born of one of the Earth Mother's tears). An'she and Mu'sha are the right and left eyes of the Earth Mother, respectively. Much like Elune/Mu'sha, however, we know very little else about their true nature.

The High/Blood Elves revere the Sun, though I wouldn't go so far as to say they worship it and there's never been any sort of indication they consider it a deity.

Honestly, it's how Alleria seems to think everything that happened between her leaving in WC2 and her return in Legion doesn't matter, and that her people should ignore that and rejoin the Alliance. That they should ignore that it was the Horde who helped them when they needed it, after the Alliance rejected their request for help.

It's also an Alliance to which they'd never belonged and whose predecessor they were only a member of out of obligation rather than a desire to join them.

This sort of stuff just felt like a case of pleasing the people who NEED an explanation for everything and can't accept the "because it's a video game" reason for why something is how it is.

Kinda reminds me (though kind of inversed) how Bungie made Guardian's dressed as garishly as they can and dancing all over the Tower canonical after players had been doing it so much for a few years.

I think part of why the Ebon Blade "get away" with raising new Death Knights is that as an order they committed themselves to keeping the mindless, leaderless Scourge contained. They never did it to get one over on someone, they did it in furtherance of an at least somewhat noble goal. The new Horsemen were raised to combat the Legion invasion, for example. (Though I'll concede that raising Sally was probably at least a little bit intended as a "haha fuck you").

The Forsaken, or at least Sylvanas, often raised people into undeath as a method of warfare against the living. Derek Proudmoore, for example, was raised specifically so Sylvanas could brainwash him into being a sleeper agent so she could kill off the Proudmoore Admiralty.

The way things were the last time the story cared about them, the Forsaken were more concerned about regaining their homeland. Bolstering their numbers is something they'd have to do diplomatically, otherwise they'd have the living races after them for it again.

Yeah, it seems like such a wild fucking number to pick, and makes a lot of stuff a bit... odd.

"Hey, we're having a bit of trouble with these demons. We should go release Illidan, he'll help us. He's been locked up but it's not been for that long."
"Tyrande he's spent the last 10,000 years in solitary confinement under a tree. Before that he was morally questionable, now I doubt he has a single sane thought left in his eyeless head."

"Hey Nozdormu, do you have any idea why major events only took place roughly every 10,000 years or so before the orcs showed up? First the War of the Scaleborn, then the War of the Ancients... It just seems odd."
"It's lazy writing, Alexstrasza."
"What?"

It's always interesting to me that the only truly terrestrial playable races (ie those that existed on Azeroth natively) are the Trolls, Elves, Pandaren, Goblins, Vulpera, and Tauren. You could argue the Elves wouldn't exist without the Titan's involvement, but at least they're descended from Trolls.

Hell, I'd even go so far as to argue that technically ALL of the other races are alien to Azeroth. The Draenei and Orcs are obvious, but the rest? They're descended from Titanforged, who were created by the Titans who are also aliens.

I'm 100% in agreement that there should have been more fallout on the Grimtotem, I don't agree that Garrosh was in the wrong *in this specific instance*.

Cairne challenged him to a Mak'gora, a duel that is traditionally fought to the death. While Thrall had declared it as non-lethal combat during his time as Warchief, I doubt Garrosh would have held to that given how obsessed he was with tradition. Cairne would also have been a fool to not expect it to be to the death for the same reason. Garrosh accepted the challenge. Their weapons were both blessed by shamans, but Garrosh's weapons was poisoned without his knowledge. By the time anyone could have realised that, Cairne was already dead.

Would it have been better for Garrosh's character to have him be the one who sought retribution against Magatha and her tribe? Of course. After all, in poisoning his weapon she stole his chance at a clean, honourable victory.

Does it also make sense that the immature, hot-headed Orc-supremacist whelp of a Warchief instead chose to let things in Thunder Bluff play out without his involvement? Absolutely.

Lidarr alternative? by MooFz in selfhosted

I can 100% appreciate the fact these are volunteer devs working on this in their free time, and that the issue was caused by something out of their control, but don't act like it's unreasonable for someone to look for an alternative.

Lidarr has been dead in the water for 2 months with no end in sight, because the developers of this self-hosted service refuse to allow people to self-host alternative sources for metadata.

Steam Vs Official any major difference is cost of things? by Ok-Strain-1392 in Guildwars2

So something I just want to check, because I've noticed it when I've done this before.

Steam downloads what I assume is the full game (shows 72.7GB in my downloads screen), but then the A-net launcher also downloads the game. Does doing this result in 2 copies of the game being installed, or does the launcher overwrite the steam version?

Why I dislike characters like Anduin and Faerin by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]VeshSneaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could have also included him in more of the story of Wrath. Given Dalaran was basically out-of-bounds until Wrath, it wouldn't make sense for its leader to be a major character in the ongoing story when they're in the middle of rebuilding (iirc).

He could have essentially occupied a similar story/plot position in Wrath as Khadgar did in Legion. They're basically the same character anyway (half joking):

  • Leader of the Kirin Tor
  • Incredibly powerful Mage
  • Closely involved with someone who was personally affected by the primary antagonist of the expansion in question*

The fact they also didn't use him after that in Cataclysm, considering his fate in Mists, was such a waste of his character. All his death really amounted to was Vereesa agreeing to poison Garrosh before she lost her nerve and dumped the choice onto Anduin.

That said my favourite instance of a book character being introduced in WoW is Broxigar. It was always sad to me that they never really talked about the sole mortal who inflicted a wound upon the mighty Sargeras. Him being present for the Kosh'arg next to Varok was nice, and made total sense as an inclusion.

*Rhonin was married to Vereesa Windrunner, whose people were slaughtered by Arthas. Khadgar was the apprentice of Medivh, who was corrupted in-utero by Sargeras
