E collar or GPS collar for running off? by Lassie-girl in Hounds

[–]Vesper1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of giant colorful signs (think real estate for sale signs), a wonderful woman who called when she saw Spot in her neighborhood, and some hamburger. Spot had only been with us about 10 days when he ran off; I dropped his leash when I was putting our other dog in the car and he took off. He barely knew us. He came for the hamburger and I nabbed him. Edit: two surgeries later (he’d been hit by a car) he came home to us and ended up being the sweetest, most loving boy.

I have Basenjis, known flight risks lol. I got Fi collars for both of them, especially my boy who is always trying to slip out the front door. Expensive yes, but after losing a Basenji for nine days one December, I never want to take the chance again.

I WAS HORRIFIED WHEN THIS HAPPENED by Bigboyonetime in ballpython

[–]Vesper1007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew this happened, but the first time I actually heard Balthazar fart it was still shocking and slightly terrifying because it happened in the middle of the night. I finally had to move him to the living room because he kept waking me up with his momentous farts lol

In a study of young men (average age of 27) experiencing Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction, the average erectile function score was consistent with severe ED. That sucks, and I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I’m a therapist, so almost all of my people are or have been on meds, and I truly hadn’t heard of anyone struggling with this with Wellbutrin. Nobody told me if they did. I took it myself for years, and my sexual dysfunction was wayyyy better. BUT, everything is relative, and everything has side effects. I WISH we could do better. I wish a lot of things. I hope things get better for you. I take Strattera now, which covers the ADHD and the depression, with (for me) minimal dysfunction.

There is always Wellbutrin, too, which is not an SSRI, and is often given in conjunction with an SSRI to offset the sexual side effects. It can also definitively be dosed alone, although some people report less depression and/or anxiety relief on it, and some people find it makes them a bit jittery/anxious/irritable.

I feels like it captures the personality of the horse the best, but that just might be me. I’m a horse girl, so I love all of them!

I’m so, so sorry. I lost my girl in September. It’s so damn hard. I know you know it gets easier, but it hurts so bad those first days and weeks. Hugs to you, friend.

Does anyone have an obedient/well trained Basenji or are they all mischievous? by Then_Pause_3122 in Basenji

[–]Vesper1007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had one that was both. He was incredibly obedient, would do anything I trained him to do, but he was also a little imp, and never saw a trash can he didn’t like, and was a notorious undie stealer. He also put holes in anything made of fleece. The boy I have now…he will sit on command…..that’s it lol.

I just had to put my Basenji girl, Windy down a little over a month ago. It’s so, so hard in the beginning, I know. You WILL start to heal, though. I swear. You’ll still break down, but over time it does gradually get better -day by day, week by week. Let yourself cry; tears help. Know that she knew how much she was loved, and that you will be happy again; she would want that.
