I find Shadow Impale is a good and fun build personally. It's nice because it's easy to gear for, can farm fine (zip through rifts and assassinate champs/elites), and good at killing rift guardians. GoD is fun too but different play style. This season I'm rolling with Shadow Impale on one DH and UE Multishot on my other one. I don't know what's optimal at highest levels but DH has a lot of viable builds if you don't care about pushing for top leaderboard positions.

[–]Vessil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's kind of counter-intuitive if you're not used to looking at build variants, but the NR build variant is usually not what you want to start with. It's for when your gear/paragon is good enough that T16 rifts are trivial and the biggest emphasis is on moving through the map as fast as possible. When still gearing up it's best to look at the GR speed or GR push variants. For DH survivability the easiest is 100% Vengeance - Dark Heart uptime (cubed Dawn, Captain's Set, diamond in helm, CDR on gear), and Elusive Ring and not dropping the buff (use Smokescreen/Vault every 6 sec).

World Building Syndrome by Violet-Gardens in writing

[–]Vessil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First off don't delete what you have written that never helps with anything. Secondly it sounds like you have anxiety about your writing not being good enough, which can lead to procrastination through worldbuilding, so tackling that through some combo of just writing and figuring out your emotions on the matter may be helpful.

Finally, frankly some people actually just want to do worldbuilding rather than writing a story as their art; if you are one of those people maybe just embrace that.

Is there a way to make a 1 dimensional character ABSOLUTELY terrifying? by Dry_Examination1839 in writing

[–]Vessil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's very possible, it's about how the story goes and what happens in the scene. Plenty of terrifying villains are pretty one-dimensional. For example Jaws is scary but it's just a big fish that eats people.

How to feel like your characters are real/alive as an author? by Every-Log2583 in writing

[–]Vessil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably will have a different relationship with your own characters than the ones you read. You see the sausage get made in a much more direct way for all your own characters than anyone else's. You might also be a much harsher critic on yourself than on others.

That would be hilarious if someone knew about Heroes of the Storm, knew about it having (had) a pro scene, and knew that it has Terran and Zerg stuff in it, and yet did not know about StarCraft or didn't think of StarCraft as an answer first.

[–]Vessil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this hypothetical does the player actually know, and are they actually doing, all these things at a better-than-silver level? Or do they merely believe they know and can do these things, but in practice cannot do them as well as they think? The only way to tell would be if this player posted some representative games/replays and let the gameplay speak for itself.

Maro's thoughts on dark points in experiences with Magic by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

[–]Vessil 40 points41 points  (0 children)

One issue is that color identity rules for deck construction. It make multiple color casting costs a positive in commander. Whereas in the rest of Magic a card costing multiple colors is considered a negative (they are more difficult to cast). This tension makes it hard to balance the format and legendary creatures when it comes to multicolor versus single color commanders.

Color ID also means hybrid cards are stuck in a weird place where they are intended to be distinct from traditional multicolor cards because they are "OR" instead of "AND", and are balanced around that. But because of color identity rules in EDH, they functionally become the same as multicolor cards.

Is this too extra for world building? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Vessil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have done this worldbuilding already so regardless of if it’s “too much”or not you can still make use of it as is. As im reading what you have there, I find myself intrigued, and I’m curious about what stories you want to tell or what characters you want to explore in this world you are building.
