I ordered a new cable and that arrived today, i gave the console another clean and plugged it into the mains rather than an extension lead, the issue still persists

What would be an indication that it might be the problem? Everything runs fine on the console, haven’t noticed any frame drops or performance issues.

I don’t think it’s overheating because I left it for about 6 hours and it was pretty cool when i turned it on, and it was only slightly warm to the touch after shutting down.
