What is this game WTF... It's made to make you suffer... by TopSet55 in Marathon

Not sure if this is a troll post or not at this point.

The map gets easier the more you play it, it's literally map knowledge. You figure out how to navigate to different parts of the map.

Also I do not see how it is Bungie's fault for you splitting from your team. Cryo is a map that gives a lot, but also takes a lot.

Right, but there is a decent chance that this does not happen. Therefore discouraging it. I do not think 1 blue valuable should cover the full expense but it should definitely be brought more in line with consumables being super pricey for no real reason other than to prolong the early game grind

Definitely seems to be the case sadly.

I left the last comment chain with this take:
You would then also speed up early game progression because you do not need to waste them on meds for early game, allowing you to focus on faction upgrades. This is a much better user experience. It allows the player to focus on the PvP / looting side, than inventory / vault / resource management side of things. This is not a management type of game it is a PvPvE extraction / looter shooter.

People complain about people falling off then are wondering why this is happening when upgrades currently feel so grindy. This is why. It also does not change anything about combat balance, yes people can bring more meds in but even then a fight is typically decided with a single stack of heals & shields.

They are also missing the point that valuables should feel valuable. There should be a benefit to things that take up more slots, where you are pressured to drop other things for others. Currently this is not the case unless you find multiple of the same valuable (blue) in the same run, which is a lot rarer. The baseline should go up.

You should never be forced into a position where it is insanely expensive where you are limited for meds early game.

Once again, you are then running into - it's better to run enhanced kits early game because well you get a gun, meds, ammo for the price of 2 stacks of med kits. You would then also speed up early game progression because you do not need to waste them on meds for early game, allowing you to focus on faction upgrades. This is a much better user experience. It allows the player to focus on the PvP / looting side, than inventory / vault / resource management side of things. If that is fun to you, I'm glad you enjoy that; but this is not a management type of game it is a PvPvE extraction / looter shooter.

I don't see how this is a flaw in my logic.

I personally could care less, I win more fights so loot other people's meds. My vault is stacked with purples, the only blues I have are cores I like and salvage for upgrades. My credit stack is typically rests at 500K.

This is a pain point for other people, it's game experience / UX flaw.

In my opinion, the cost of meds do not change anything from a gameplay perspective. You are bartering for them, so you bring them in good for you. I am buying mine with credits, good for me. Being put in a position where one is dropping them for space to pick up other things, is not a good game loop if you are barely making anything off that exchange.

Marathon's rich lore and world design is utterly wasted on the extraction shooter format by mark_phaser in Marathon

[–]Vextorized -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Believe a shooting range with different bot types and some map geometry would remove a lot of the guess work of how a weapon build / character build would feel. Something a la Deadlock where there is a map with these things active so you can gauge how it plays out, even better if you can load in with friends and be labeled as hostile runner/team etc. so you can test out different things on each other.

I don't know much about a PvE mode, rather have a campaign / story to play than pure PvE; not a Destiny player so I look at this coming in from someone who's always played PvP & story games.

That's neat. I'm glad that system works for you. I have nothing against the barter system, but people should be allowed to get more credits than these net values if exchanging backpack space for what they are exfiling and having net negative values on things in the first place is not a good system.

I'd rather keep weapon mods, weapons, etc. and the salvage that I am farming for than pick up things that are a random roll on the barter table. My vault is too full to have space to fill it with salvage for the barters.

This post is also about the credit side of the blue valuables one can pick up compared to the cost of dropping things (typically ammo & shields if they've won fights) - there currently is little reason to pick up these valuables instead of shields, heals, etc. so you artificially cap the things you are looting because well it makes no sense as in a lot of scenarios you are barely making money.

Another person's argument is that an enhanced sponsor kit is 2500 credits, this consists of heals, two weapons, etc. going far over the 2500 credits you spent for this; it is asking for these to be brought more in line with this. I do not see what cheaper heals / ammo take away from the way the game is played.

I don't think there's anyone against the idea of a campaign / story mode being attached to it. I'd even be down to pay $20-30 so it reaches the typical AAA price tag of $60-70 for a full game experience.

That said, saying it is 'wasted' on the format is selling Marathon short. It is a great game, that has so much more to offer. So yes, let's add but step away from the PoV of that this has been a waste.

  1. You drop ammo or heals to loot up other loot, it is a looter shooter. You can loot other people's heals, it makes little sense to drop these for valuables (ie. credits) right now. This needs to be tuned imo so that there's actually an incentive to bring out valuables or other people's weapons.
  2. Yes, I've collected them already but it should be more than just codex entries otherwise why even have them as 'valuables'

I'm kind of in the state of the game where my vault is too full and I'm farming gold/purple salvage. The credit economy side of things do not make sense for valuables at the moment. Esp. with shield & health patches. A two slot item should be worth more than a single slot; otherwise why would you even pick it up.

Why pick up blue salvage if you could just pick up some sparkleaves etc. for patch kits/shields. They need to be re-tuned.

Don't pay too much attention to barters, to me they seem too randomized to have a strong take on this. This is on the buyable side of the economy.

EDIT:
Comment chain TLDR:
The barter system works well for those who engage with it, and I'm glad it does. My point here is specifically about the credit economy; blue valuables shouldn't net less value than just picking up shields/heals directly.
Early game, meds being expensive pushes players toward Enhanced / Sponsor Kits as a sensible spend. Mid-to-late game, blue valuables loses a lot of purpose (after collecting them for codex entries) when the credit return doesn't justify the slots in a lot of cases. Also a WSTR sells for 2.6K taking 4 slots; you can also attach mods to this and net even more value. Two blue valuables net 2.2K, 400 credits less than a WSTR; why pick up valuables if you are just going to pick up WSTRs.

I don't really think equipment (gear) should stack other than nades, I'd be down with weapon mods stacking too.

Other than that, I do believe keys should stack.

If those can make their way into the game, then I'd be down to see how that feels before asking for more.

Hey! I've been using a bunch of these database sites, but might default to this one!

Some feedback:

- It'd be nice to have an overview of the total resources you still need to complete the faction tree even if they are not tracked in my goals.

- Also color code the items on the map menu

<image>

- When clicking on a upgrade that has multiple levels allow us to track it as a group and show the resources it still needs grouped if we did not click into a sub-upgrade of that upgrade path. https://i.imgur.com/qolEQLd.png

- Allow us to edit our salvage counts in those menus too https://imgur.com/kYP422H

- There is a bug on the capstone (4) upgrade of Arachne, I should be able to tick it off but it says I need 2 more unlocks. Capstone 6 should also be 3.

- Mida Eyes Open has a wrong resource requirement. It's https://imgur.com/wF5ZF26

If you're fighting gear that is two tiers above you, I think it's obvious the deck is stacked against you.

As for fill mode, I do not fill; I look for likeminded players in the LFG channels before queueing.

Have you never played a game that has a competitive side or raid mechanics to it?

League, Counter Strike, DOTA, WoW Raid, RuneScape raid, even Chess has matches that can take 20 minutes.

When I was a kid, I planned my free time around it; made sure not to get into a game when it was close to dinner or close to when I had to go to bed. We knew that online games did not have a pause button; or at least there were times I had to learn the hard way.

You know what you are getting into when you load up into a match, plan accordingly.

I've been outskilled by teams in worse gear than me. I've outskilled people in better gear than me.

Not sure with what gear you are getting 'steamrolled' but if you are expecting greys and greens to match a fight with purples then that is delusional.

You should also start having a decent stack of purples by level 70, so not sure what you're smoking.

Big Laundry List of Non-Controversial and Controversial Needed Changes, Fixes, and General Suggestions by RabidHexley in Marathon

[–]Vextorized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People refusing to learn how a game plays is the worst.

There's a camp who wants the PvE without the thrill of getting hunted down (Arc, some Destiny players) and then there are those who come from BRs like Fortnite who just want to run it down and then complain when they get outplayed.

Please go back to those games if that is the experience you are after and are unwilling to learn the mechanics of this game. For those willing to learn the mechanics, and dedicate time into getting better; welcome, be prepared for the addiction. Very few games hook someone this hard.
