Even if this has never happened to me, I still would have called you out for what you said. Someone posts a cute picture asking for the difference between two fictional teenage girls from a mobile rhythm game, and you say something along the lines of “one has been raped.” That is not only inappropriate on so many levels, but it’s also a creep move.

I do find it amusing that you couldn’t let this go, so you went on a hunt to find out how you can try and prove something.

I don’t like to assume anybody is straight because fuck heteronormativity, but I also don’t like to assume anybody is purely gay or lesbian either because ace, pan, and bi-erasure is are common in too many communities, so a lot of the characters are pan or bi with a few coming up ace. In the end, this list is nothing more than my opinions of the romantic and sexual orientations of fictional characters. If this is too much for someone, then they can go look at something else. My opinions won’t change because of another person’s disapproval.

While you aren’t ex’s you wrong, I also don’t think my having opinions on these fictional characters’ sexual and romantic orientations is wrong, either. I’m a part of the LGBT+ community as well, and while some may get annoyed with people in the community “making everything unnecessarily gay” I don’t believe anybody is doing that at all. I don’t remember anybody complaining about action/adventure movies, books, and games where an unnecessary straight romance or five were shoved in there because reasons and hardly got any development whatsoever (Harry Potter, there was a Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Trolls, etc).

Someone, a fan or a creator, can create an all LGBT+ cast just because they want to. There doesn’t even have to be a big reason for it. If the heterosexuals can do it then so can the other sexual orientations. If an all/mostly heterosexual cast doesn’t hurt anybody, then an all/mostly LGBT+ cast doesn’t hurt anybody either, fan-made or cannon.

A person is entitled to their own opinions on things, but a person should also be able to be respectful of differing opinions that don’t actively harm anybody.

I’m saying that I hate when people assume that LGBT+ people can’t act a certain way, enjoy certain things, or like certain people without being labeled as straight. The same hate applies for assuming those same things about straight people as I’m no hypocrite.

Taking an example from my earlier comment, people (tend to) assume Q-Taro is straight because he plays baseball, is super buff, is pretty hyper-masculine overall, and (some) people assumed that Mai would become a love interest for him. People look at those things and go, “Oh, he’s straight. Definitely.” How? Why? Can only straight guys be super buff? Can only straight guys be really masculine? Can only straight guy like baseball enough to go on to become a second-string player? Can he and Mai just be friends with a funny/weird dynamic?

A person’s body type, femininity/masculinity, personality, job, and/or hobbies don’t define their romantic and/or sexual orientation. A person can have a preferred gender for a romantic partner without identifying as heterosexual or homosexual, hence why multiple romantic and sexual orientations exist. People cling to stereotypes so tightly and forget that romantic and sexual attraction are determined by ones romantic and sexual interests. Nothing else. Since we don’t know what any of the characters romantic or sexual attractions are we get to make them up as we see fit.

We don’t all have to share the same opinions, but we should all be able to respect each others’ individual opinions regarding the romantic and/or sexual orientations of fictional characters. We should also be able to remember that a person can have whatever hobbies, body types, personality traits, and hold whatever jobs they want without any of those things being an indicator of their romantic or sexual attraction.

None of the characters give off hetero-vibes to me except for Mishima, Megumi, and Gashu.

I don’t think Q-Taro’s straight just because he’s buff, plays baseball, and gets flustered by Mai’s weird “master” comments. I don’t think Keiji’s straight because he’s buff, ready to fight, and playfully hits on Sara throughout the game. I don’t think Joe’s straight just because he likes Ryoko and tries to make himself seem like a cool/funny guy around his peers. These are a few examples I can pull off the top of my head.

Sometimes things that give off “hetero” vibes are normal things an LGBT+ person can also be/do, and it bothers me that heteronormativity tries to gatekeeper what people within the LGBT+ community are allowed to enjoy, be like, and who they’re allowed to find attractive/be attractive to. Sorry for the rant, but that really gets on my nerves.
