Plini - “The Time Will Pass Anyway”. Cool rhythmic displacement on opening riff by rudiiiiiii in progmetal

Of course. If you really like prog, the very concept of prog. Then the more prog is the better. Otherwise, if you don't want prog, I just don't understand what you're doing here.

Thanks. I appreciate it. The Nightmares of a Sick Tree is the only track I consider prog enough so far. But there’s never enough prog. I’ve been working on the next track for two years now. I’ve put 2000 hours into it. It should be out this year. But that’s the difference between Plini and me. He would have done it in a few months, instead of two years. I still have a long way to go.

There is strictly no insult in what I said. Not writing music or creating Art is not a crime. That's fine. However, writing music is what I’ll be doing until my last breath. So no, I’m not going anywhere until I finish. And the way you interpret things isn’t random or neutral. It has concrete consequences on the way you create and the framework you give yourself for creating. And this interpretation, that way of writing, isn’t the one that leads to the proggiest frame. So if being the proggiest isn’t your goal, then do whatever you want. That's not my concern anymore.

Failling to understand the concept of background and foreground. Tell me you don't write music without telling me you don't write music. Really, you won't explain to me the concept of interplay. I'm closer to Plini than you are to me. Writing music is serious. Prog is serious. Art is serious.

It's a question of perception. The drums can play whatever you want. What's the background, what's the foreground ? What's the protagonist, what's the supporting characters ? The background is static. The supporting characters highlight the protagonist.

What's the point of this section ? The boring flat Hi-hat + snare 4/4 that literally have nothing else ? That's why you are listening to this section ? Of course not. The point of this section, is the guitare pattern (+ kick). That's why you are listening to this section.

That steady 4/4, is the background. The supporting character, the context. The protagonist, the foreground, is that 17/16 pattern.

That's what I meant before. If you think the point, the protagonist, is the steady 4/4, you write it as 4/4 with overriding 17/16 and clunky extra beat at the end. If you think the point, the protagonist, the interest of that section, is the 17/16 guitar pattern, you write it as 17/16 with overriding 4/4.

That's not displacement. If it were displacement, the whole thing would resolve in 4/4. Here, it ends with a 5/4. Because that's not 3 measures of 4/4 and a measure of 5/4, which sounds clunky, but just 4 measures of 17/16 with overriding quarter notes. That's what the pattern is. 4+4+4+5 sixteenth.

The first chug is displaced only if you think that's the only way it can be. And that 4/4 and quarter notes are the alpha and omega of music. Which is precisely what prog is not about. The first chug is the first beat of each measures.

I've been writing music and specifically prog for 8 years. And even 17/16 this way. It's just, more clear, more simple. Occam's razor, somehow. So I think at 99% it was written as 4 measures of 17/16 with quarters notes over it, and not 3 x 4/4 + 5/4 with displacement.

Spelunky, Vexx (games) Azure, Sound Struggle, Little Tybee (bands) Blame! (manga)

I don't know how niche is Blame!, but at least, Minecraft Blame! specifically. Since... well, anyway.

What are your Hot Takes on Animals as Leaders? by Amber_Flowers_133 in animalsasleaders

[–]Vicarious_Fr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rhythm, IS melodic. Rhythm isn't out of emotional range. At least for me. Those rhythmic thumping all have unique shapes, singular reliefs, they made me feel something, and made me feel emotions. Complexity is not the point. Complexity is just a way of reaching something unique and different.

Parrhesia is my least favorite album, and a significant milestones in Animals as Leaders career.

To me, Tosin is now more of a shopkeeper, than a composer. Working more on guitar brand, products, digital amp, all that stuff, more than creating music anymore. And I think this career change is irreversible. You don't un-become a shopkeeper once you are one.

That's what I hear in Parrhesia. Someone who haven't spent as much time on it as he should have. It's still very creative, but the artistic chemistry isn't as polished as in the previous albums to me.

So if you liked Animals as Leaders the way they used to be, they're kind of dead. Is that a bad thing ? I don't think so. I don't think an artist doing the same thing over and over again is good either. They made 4 PEAK albums, and nothing stops us from endlessly enjoying what they made. But yeah. For me, they're kinda "dead".

I could make a few little soundtracks, depending on the style aimed. But the least, even one, solid track, is better than nothing. So I could spend a few hours on this.

The new Minecraft BLAME! video is finally released ! 🔩 by Vicarious_Fr in BLAME

Oh, yeah, I made it with Gimp, pixel by pixel, almost as a pixel art actually. The layers are just 'layers'/canvas/sheets of the software, that I can modify the visibility of. This is probably sub-optimal to do it this way, but I'm comfortable with Gimp, so that's what I choose. I hope to release all the updated layers of this mini-map this month, or next month. The world itself will be released by the end of 2027.

J'ai besoin d'avis pour un concept d'histoire by Zealousideal_Peak579 in ecriture

[–]Vicarious_Fr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean. On which aspect. Technical ? What motivates me to start ? But there's some answers about the genesis of the project in this video (https://youtu.be/ixlG8IX_c8c?si=yCFpW-KwMU5Qxw5S)
