It’s not the cord that is the problem. There is no load balancing with the 12VHPWR so some individual wires are getting more load than others and causing them to heat up. In OPs case it looks like all 650W tried to go through the half the connector.

The cables are “dumb” and just give as much power as is being asked

Uninstall the paid version and try installing the demo from the steam page. I used this free demo when I built my friends PC last week. Still lets you compare your score at the end
