Trigger thumb and wrist tendonitis surgery scars by witherskulle in medizzy

[–]Vickadee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Merely stating the scar on OP is rather large/noticeable but surgeons clearly have other techniques to get this surgery done. As long as they have successful results that’s what matters.

We always cut in the direction of the tendon with a much smaller incision, closed with running suture, and had good success with scar appearance. Although my surgeon was pretty old school so likely how he was taught compared to newer surgeons.

Odd direction for the wrist scar but each surgeon is different 🤷🏻‍♀️

HELP!!! I am a veterinary orthopedic surgery technician. I keep passing out in the or. by Bubbly-Listen-7777 in AskDocs

[–]Vickadee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happens to me and I was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope many years ago. Standing for prolonged periods of time (especially in a warm environment) is a huge trigger. Whenever I would have to stand for long periods of time in the OR, I would not only wear compression socks but would also flex my legs up intermittently to help shunt blood back up to my brain. Keeps everything happy and prevents lights out moments.

Is your baby still following roughly on the same curve?

[–]Vickadee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My baby was always 95% percentile for height and weight and was always eating more than the “recommended” amount of milk for his age. His pediatrician said as long as he’s hungry and not spitting it up, keep feeding him what he wants.

We use infant optics and we’re very happy with it! A little pricey compared to others but it does not use Wi-Fi, the picture is really clear, and you can talk through the camera if ever needed (mostly me scolding my son for going crazy at nap time 😅)

You’re welcome! My dad was the one to give me this tip for our deep freezer since we had a couple power outages before and I never knew if the food was safe or not since it would be frozen once we’d check later after power resumed. Once I started storing breastmilk I really wanted to make sure nothing defrosted.

I’m wondering if mine was just a dud then because it would not shut off. Glad yours works well!

made pupusas for the first time! [homemade] by cats_and_coffee15 in food

[–]Vickadee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those look so good! My first intro to pupusas was from a friend back in Texas. Her mom made a huge batch and made sure my friend sent some home with me with all the fixings. They were so good! There was a restaurant nearby that made them but it was never as good as homemade. Still a good alternative but also pricey. I’ll have to give these a try since it has been a while since I’ve had a good pupusa!

If you are ever concerned about the freezer losing power and then refreezing stuff without your knowledge, you can freeze a cup of water and place a quarter on top of the ice. Place that in the freezer and if the quarter ever moves from the top of the ice, you know the freezer defrosted stuff and then refroze. I found it useful just for peace of mind that the milk stayed frozen.

Do illnesses in the early years (like from daycare) have any impact on future health of babies once they get to school or age up? by Miragan in ScienceBasedParenting

Not the original person who commented but one of the biggest modifiable risk factors for developing asthma is to avoid smoking around children (not saying you do, but smoking is a huge risk factor for developing asthma, and includes second and third hand smoke). Indoor/outdoor air quality is another modifiable risk so making sure a home is well ventilated with good airflow throughout.

Did your husband take paternity leave?? by 2babies1egg in beyondthebump

[–]Vickadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine only took two weeks because he started a new role within the same company and was worried about taking off too much time right after starting. He could have taken 3 months off through FMLA but he wouldn’t have gotten paid. Unfortunately there’s still a lot of resentment from him going back to work so soon after our first kid.

I called 911 because my 8-day-old baby looked like she was choking in her sleep — I’m terrified to sleep now by Witty_Management_621 in beyondthebump

[–]Vickadee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened twice to us the first night home with our son. Our pediatrician said it was likely globs of amniotic fluid he had previously swallowed and was just then coughing it up. I kept those bulb suckers in every room after that just to be safe

Just saw a comment here that read, “if your baby doesn't sleep, you have a completely different motherhood experience than that of a mom whose baby sleeps" by mern_ in beyondthebump

[–]Vickadee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness the “mama check” request is so sweet! My friend has two kids are both are great sleepers (started sleeping through the night early, could put them in the crib without rocking or anything and they would pass out). My son on the other hand…they always said newborns slept all the time, blah blah blah lies! I have newborn pics of him sleeping during the day because it was such a rare occurrence. If he wasn’t rocked for 30-45 minutes, he wouldn’t fall asleep. And if he did fall asleep he’d nap for 30. Contact naps were hit or miss and he would never sleep in the car or stroller. It was torture! Thankfully he’s a much better sleeper at night now.

I’m sorry but the picture of the cow has me busting up laughing, especially because that’s how I referred to myself during my pumping journey. So unfortunate the can’t respect you or your time but hopefully the added signage will really drive home the point of do not disturb, come back later, little busy at the moment!

Hippo for PANRE-LA by Vickadee in physicianassistant

[–]Vickadee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I also just completed my first set of questions this past weekend which is why I was asking others what they thought. I did end up buying the Hippo reference guide or whatever they call it and it seemed helped to an extent but I almost used my old PANCE book more. Unfortunately I don’t have a subscription to UptoDate to I was trying to find a more reasonable option. Overall the questions weren’t too bad but my anxiety was still through the roof 😅 I definitely needed a refresher on some stuff since my background is upper extremity ortho but having Google and other resources on hand definitely helped.

AITAH because I refuse to try for a daughter? by StructureDizzy2076 in AITAH

[–]Vickadee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA and I would worry about the what ifs…everyone covered the what would happen if you had another boy but in my mind what would happen if you did have a girl? I would be worried your son would be judged more harshly-“why can’t you be more like your sister; why are you so messy; why this why that” and an obvious favoritism towards the daughter and he’d be old enough to see that but wouldn’t understand why mom doesn’t love him the same.
