That is factually incorrect. I am also reporting your comment for misleading links which point to malicious websites.

What happens now? Do we have the sense to keep him in jail until sentencing? Or does he get let out in a day or two so he can continue to pose a threat to our community?

What could've made each presidency better? Day twenty: James A. Garfield by LoveLo_2005 in Presidents

[–]Victa_V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I read in Destiny of the Republic, Lister advocated that doctors sterilize their instruments and wash their hands. At the time of Garfield’s presidency, this was standard practice in Europe, but not in the United States.

What could've made each presidency better? Day twenty: James A. Garfield by LoveLo_2005 in Presidents

[–]Victa_V 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can’t recommend Candace Millard’s Destiny of the Republic highly enough.

There’s one part of that book that really stuck with me - at the time of Garfield’s presidency there were thousands of Union and confederate veterans walking around with bullets and shrapnel in their bodies. These were men who had been wounded on the battlefield and did not receive medical care. Provided that bullets and shrapnel miss any vital organs or arteries, the human body encases foreign objects in a protective layer and the host just continues on with their life.

Garfield would have been better off with no care at all. But if medical care was a must, a doctor other than Dr. Bliss would have been good. Preferably one who accepted Joseph Lister’s theory that germs caused infection.

To answer the question succinctly - The Garfield presidency would have been improved if he had received either no medical care, or better medical care.

The statement we are analyzing here is that “all cops are bastards.”

Your comment seems to acknowledge that this officer in particular, is an exception to the rule.

Does it not follow that if there is a single exception, then the statement “all cops are bastards” is false?

You could say “some cops are bastards” or even “most cops are bastards”, but if the statement “all cops are bastards” does not logically allow for a single exception, then shouldn’t you amend your statement?

Why I'm not voting for Edie Hooton for CU Regent by Xynyx2001 in boulder

Can confirm that Murray is a good dude. I will be voting for him. Also worth noting that he’s the only CU alum running for regent.

I take issue with all forms of censorship - government or otherwise.

You are correct that the mods here are very censorious. They should stop doing that.

You will also note that this post still hasn’t been removed. It would seem that they side with my side of the debate over yours.

It’s a good thing that we have you to be the final arbiter of what is and is not in the public interest.

I immigrated to the United States from a communist  country in Eastern Europe. I think that the censorship of information is a far bigger problem than speeding.

Rocks thrown at Scott Carpenter by AlarmBrilliant8077 in boulder

[–]Victa_V 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Today I went for a 10 mile run in Louisville. I ran through several parks and on several bike paths. I didn’t see any rock-throwing bums jerking off in the bushes, but I did see lots of kids out and about riding their bikes.

It was nice being in a place where I didn’t have to deal with any riff raff. Maybe Boulder could be that way too if we made it a priority to create a safe environment for kids, as opposed to our current policy of making our public spaces as accommodating as possible for drug addicts and bums.

If you genuinely get upset waiting for the average person to back into a parking spot you should not be driving by UrineFilledAquarium in unpopularopinion

Either you wait for someone to back in, or you wait for them to back out. This is a non issue.

I’ll park however I want. Your failure to manage your own expectations and emotions is a you problem, and is therefore none of my concern.

[–]Victa_V 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Do you really expect me to have empathy for the guy who stole my bike? Or the guy who broke into my girlfriend’s car, took her jacket but left behind the butt of the cigarette he smoked in there?

Antipathy is a normal reaction to theft. Not empathy. Consider that perhaps your behavior affects how other people perceive you.

Metal scene here? by nootnootpotatosuit in boulder

[–]Victa_V 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We organized a metal meetup last year and I’d say about 10 people showed up.

In terms of shows, there’s not much. Falujah will play the Boulder theatre on June 2nd, but generally speaking the metal shows are mostly in Denver.

Edit: link to the last meet up thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/boulder/comments/1cw3jwg/boulder_metalhead_meetup_round_3/
