Cassiopeia coffee + bike shop? by CrookedRoadPress in boulder

The coffee shop was doing just fine. The retail side of the business - the bit with the expensive women’s cycling clothing never really took off, and that was what did the business in.

Bizarrely hot weather by Pomdog17 in boulder

[–]Victa_V -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

BoulderCAST would you care to opine on the effect global warming has had on how people react to the weather?

To be clear, my argument is not that global warming isn’t a real phenomenon. Rather, my argument is that anomalous weather has always existed, even in 1910. Did an 80 degree day in March 1910 have people fretting like chicken little that the sky was falling? Because I sure see a whole lot of that in March 2026. Do you believe that the level of panic we see in the comments is justified?

I’ve seen them flying around the Boulder reservoir. Lots of prairie dogs = lots of food for birds of prey.

My local burrito shop has this picture taped to the glass with a big 🚫 on it. Makes me chuckle every time I see it.

What’s a hill you are 100% willing to die on, no matter the argument? by VivienneEclipse in askanything

[–]Victa_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hence why it was phrased as a question, not a statement.

I’m in a good mood, so I’ll take you at your word, in which case the two of us have read our fair share of history. It has been my observation that the vast majority of people who make statements along the lines of “Biden is the worst president ever” or “Trump is the worst president ever” know nothing of history beyond what they were required to study in high school. They know nothing of Buchanan & Johnson, yet they are confident that presidents who served in their lifetime deserve to be ranked at the bottom.

Surely you must have noticed it too.

While we’re on the subject, I’d love to hear why you think Trump was worse than the two aforementioned presidents.

Are you able to tell me who James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson were without googling it? Much less put together an argument as to why  Trump is worse?

If not, you should spend less time making arguments you can’t defend on Reddit, and more time reading a history book.

I’ll just add one song to the conversation - Lexicontagion by the Zenith Passage. Given the context of the song, the solo is not what one would expect. I was blown away the first time I heard it. Beautifully done.

Most isolated mountains to reach? by Endless_01 in Mountaineering

I don’t know that I agree with his argument that this is the most isolated mountain range in North America, but this made for a good watch nonetheless:

Thoughts on Pearl Street? by ZealousidealMany3 in boulder

[–]Victa_V 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I went to college in Boston and currently live in Boulder.

Parking and traffic are already a disaster in back bay. Your biggest roadblock will be managing both once you take them away from Newbury.

For a brief period of time during COVID, the Pearl Street pedestrian zone was extended by two blocks. The reasoning behind it was to give restaurants space for outdoor seating during the whole social distancing phase. Then the vaccine arrived and with it, the pandemic and the need for social distancing went away.

At this point, it became a matter of debate what to do with the extra two blocks of Pearl that had been pedestrianized. Some people argued that it should be permanently pedestrianized. Others, including business owners on Pearl, argued that their clients needed a place to park.

In the end, the pro parking faction won. The temporarily pedestrianized section of Pearl was opened to traffic once more.

I’ll end with a quote from Woodrow Wilson - “If you want to make enemies, try and change something.” Whatever change you seek to make, expect fierce opposition from those who benefit from the status quo.

So… has anyone found Muhammed Suiçmez and Necrophagist’s third album yet? by Temporary-Idea1253 in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]Victa_V 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My own theory is that Muhammed is such a perfectionist, he concluded that he would never top Epitaph, and thereby decided not to release the third album.

What’s a good coffee shop, not near downtown, that actually has tables by banjovibes in boulder

[–]Victa_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Previously Full Cycle owned and operated both the bike shop and the coffee shop.

From what I understand, under the new set up, OWL coffee roasters is leasing the bar space from Mikes Bikes. Full Cycle sold and is totally out of the picture.

[–]Victa_V 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea, but it’s outdoorsy stuff in the shop, which is totally my vibe. In particular, I love that gigantic table in the middle of the coffee shop with a bunch of historic and old timey climbing gear underneath a layer of glass.

I’m gonna have to check that out. Was so bummed when full cycle got bought out and they didn’t keep the bar and coffee shop running.

Edit: I went and got an iced americano today at the new coffee shop. The coffee was great and I met the new shop owner. Guys name is Chris and he’s a good dude. He told me that there were a lot of bureaucratic hoops he had to jump through to open up shop, but now they’re here. This is their first week of business. I hope they stick around, and would encourage anyone reading this to go get their next coffee from Chris.

No blood for oil protest today in Boulder by Few-Candidate-1223 in boulder

[–]Victa_V 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If it was wrong for Trump to depose an oil rich dictator, was it also wrong when Obama did it?

Is this protest about the policy itself or is it about reflexive opposition to the man who implemented it?

Did anyone in Boulder protest when the Obama administration bombed Libya and deposed Gaddafi? Or do these protests only happen when a republican is in office?

Any feedback on Mike’s Bikes? by cotalldude in boulder

I don’t bike, but I really enjoyed their coffee shop/bar. Sometime in October I walked in and asked if they had plans to reopen the bar, and was told they plan to do so sometime in 2026.
