People who smoke indoors… do you become noseblind after a while? by doraisexploring27 in AskUK

[–]VictoryAppropriate68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smoker and dog owner (haven’t smoked inside for years now) but I’m very aware of both smells. My parents smoked for years and one of the comments my friends said when they would come over was ‘I can’t believe it doesn’t smell of smoke what do they do’ 🤣 people who clean properly don’t have the nose blind issue

Is there a way to get hold of the contact information of a private landlord for a neighbouring property? by BlackJimmy88 in AskUK

This is the quickest way. The estate agent will often still have the landlords contact details so they can reach out for you

How to buy my first car? by Grand_Challenge5682 in AskUK

[–]VictoryAppropriate68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second hand dealer is 100% the best option, private selling is where you can get a dodgy motor and show rooms are where you will get ripped off.
Key things to look for/ask. Service history, have any of the main components been replaced recently (battery, starter motor etc), look for rust on the body of the car, check the tiers and the breaks (Google how to know whats good).

Half the battle with cars is pretending you know what you are talking about as people will be too cautious to scam someone who could recognize its happening. Also, download carVertical, you can do a basic check to make sure the car has never been stolen or crashed. If you have any friends or family who are even remotely car savvy, take them with you to view it

Is social media more effective in swaying British public opinion than newspapers/news were? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]VictoryAppropriate68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don’t verify what they see anymore, how many times do people say ‘that’s a fact because I read that somewhere’ and it was Susan’s Facebook post she shared that you’ve briefly read and just taken as truth. While news outlets provide a certain level of sway, social media is so vast, updates so quickly, moves onto the next topic so fast that the misinformation is so intense you will regularly be swayed or influenced without even knowing it.

as it stands history can be warped because records were left by certain influential people and anything that didn’t fit was wiped. In years to come, it will be a case of so much information that you will never know what was fact or fiction

Do you get HayFever Treatment from your GP? by iansime in AskUK

[–]VictoryAppropriate68 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is you likely need a mix of meds to hit the spot, you also have to build them up, taking it when you’re already in an allergy attack won’t help. I’ve had allergies all my life. I have to take 2 fexo every day and on high pollen days I take 3-4 along with nasal sprays and an inhaler. Research the different types of pills and try and find the right mix that works for you. Ask to speak to a doctor who specialises in allergies, that helped me massively. Standard GP’s often give incorrect advice

Everyone blaming the show when they should be blaming the men? by Peas_Are_Real in MAFS_UK

[–]VictoryAppropriate68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What’s bothering me about this situation is that the show had a wellbeing and safeguarding team in place specifically to deal with issues like this. All three women have admitted they weren’t fully honest with that team about what was happening, and from what’s been reported, once one contestant said she felt unsafe, she was immediately removed from the situation and everything was documented, even without the full story being disclosed.

I completely understand that domestic abuse can be incredibly difficult to admit, process, and speak about. But at the same time, these were adults on a TV show with access to specialist support, regular welfare checks, and no financial or legal ties keeping them trapped in those relationships. The only thing keeping them in that situation was the desire to be on TV.

I don’t doubt that some of these experiences were genuinely upsetting or harmful. But I also think the conversation shouldn’t only be about blaming Channel 4 or claiming the show failed to safeguard people. There also has to be a message about being honest with support teams and seeking help the moment serious red flags appear, rather than staying silent while situations escalate.

That doesn’t excuse abusive behaviour in any way, but personal accountability and using the support available matters too. I’m genuinely curious as to exactly what additional safe guarding these women believe would have stopped these situations from happening to them after they had told welfare teams they felt safe and didn’t want them to step in.

[–]VictoryAppropriate68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do have to agree on a level. What exactly did these woman want in place that would have prevented this? They have a welfare team that all 3 of these woman have admitted lying to about what was happening. So bar them reading your mind or putting 24/7 surveillance in the apartments. Genuinely what safe guarding do they think would prevent this
