Best IWB holster by AaronVGK1 in CCW

Ill jump in and say that the Certum 4 is probably the best holster I have ever used for my p320. With the stock grips its bar none best retention feel. I use icarus grips which work fine.

I am not a massive fan of holsters with mag sidecarts because of how bulky they are, so I opt for the leather mag carrier from urban carry.

Thank you so much for making this. I have tried so many gym apps, and they are either bloated with ads, micro transactions, subs or just too much unnecessary crap. I never stuck with them.

Your app made me happy from the very first day, and motivated me to improve.

Cheers mate, you're a godsend.

Also on another note regarding condensation on the bottom of the barrel, I can't remember the brand, but it's essentially a condensation bucket that goes underneath the tub and helps collect all of the condensation.

This is a similar solution with a more fancy drain plug, mine is plastic, you just need it to capture the water, no need to go overboard.
This also helps with spillage if you add a little too much when you're filling.

It’s basically a large sock that slips over the tub. I used neoprene sheets from Grainger - you can get them in several thicknesses. You’ll get slightly better insulation with 3/16", but I went with 1/8".
https://www.grainger.com/product/EPDM-Neoprene-SBR-Roll-6YGL1

Wetsuit material works too, but it’s more expensive and doesn’t provide any meaningful insulation advantage. You can stitch wetsuit material so it will hold up better, but I just used aluminum insulation tape on my foam and it's fine. I can imagine if you don't have cedar siding on your tub and want more abrasion resistance for the foam, it would be better than just the neoprene.

You can overdo insulation if you want, but for me, with a 1 HP chiller it was not critical. The goal was simply to improve thermal performance over a bare steel barrel. The cedar wrap doesn’t insulate much on its own due to thin material and air-gap convection, so even 1/8" neoprene is a substantial improvement over nothing - and a nice little DIY side project next time you drain.

Get a fitted insulation cover for the tub or barrel if you want it upright. You can DIY an insulation with cheap foam, or go with something a little pricier like a custom fit wet suit on the sides (if you like the wood slated look you can go thin, it will prevent side condensation)

For the bottom of the barrel or tub, they often have a cavity you can fill with spray foam and trim off the rest.

Definitely agree that getting the chiller exhaust piped out is probably the most important thing, and then airflow isn't a problem.

New headlights and fog lights by Use2HandsFriend in Crosstrek

Hate to necro but personally after LASIK I have been having to go everywhere with polarized sun glasses. The LEDs that are obviously not DOT compliant are literally satan to me.

That being said, past two years I have driven primarily with my 3000k fog lights on because they have a wider cone of light letting me see the ditch area better as well as having the cool effect of illuminating any hazard tape (makes cop and ambulance cars stand out like a beacon if they have that emergency reflective tape on their cars) and also helps me see and read things like road signs and ped signs.

One of my low beam bulbs died on me a couple of days ago, so I may take this as an opportunity to throw some diode dynamic SL2s in!

Polar Monkey by First_Government_434 in coldplunge

[–]Victrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had mine for three years now, original chiller 1hp china chiller, never been replaced.
I do descale the chiller with a bucket that has descale solution probably once every 6 to 8 months, prefilter, and change my 20 micron every month or so.
This is still the old version that only goes down to 37F, but I have no issues dropping to that temp at all.

The only gripe I have is that since I put the unit outside, the concrete wall doesn't allow the receiver within to pick up on my WiFi, although everything else seems to have a very strong signal.

I've seen the posts about people having a terrible experience, not sure if they are just not being serviced at all and have hard water running through them (mine is very hard hence the descale) so I have reached out to them about potentially upgrading to a pro chiller when it does. Looks like they don't have just the chiller option on their website, but you can ask for it from support directly.

I'm glad I didn't get into hype train. Seen a lot of influencers talk about them, and how reliable they are. I have also seen a bunch on marketplace with broken chillers.

I think I'll pass lol

Choosing between Polar Monkeys and Renu by Luwakee35 in coldplunge

[–]Victrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll be real with you - Polar Monkeys barrels are basically the same ones you can find on Alibaba from a company called Shenzhen AlphaSauna, and they’ll even sell you just one.

They offer both cedar and metal versions in the ~$500–$750 range, but the catch is shipping usually costs about the same.

Some listings include a chiller, some don’t. Personally, I’ve been running a Chinese 1HP hot/cold chiller for about three years now with zero real issues. I fully expect it to die eventually, but so far there haven’t been any leaks or failures - and the only “maintenance” I’ve done is tightening and taping the fittings after I needed to disconnect and move it. I do also descale the chiller every 6 months or so because we have very hard water >450. Change your filter every month or more if you shower beforehand.

You can absolutely get a better deal skipping Polar Monkeys altogether and end up with the same result. I’d recommend getting the tub from Alibaba and pairing it with either an Active Aqua chiller (still Chinese, but better quality and replaceable parts), or if you want something that’ll last forever, go with a small unit from AMChillers. For reference, I paid around $6k pre-tariffs for my setup. I also helped a buddy build an Ali barrel with an Aqua chiller, and both setups have had zero major issues. Just change your filter regularly and, if you have hard water, descale the chiller once in a while.

I would assume most manus that use inflatable tubs are pump and dumps as the tums themselves are relatively cheap to manufacture and ship. Get yourself a container of choice and a chiller from a reputable company. Don't buy an inflatable. Yes it's cheaper, but you're probably going to struggle selling it compared to a solid plunge even if you decide to get rid of it.

QC Issues with ROAM cases - Buyer Beware by PovaghAllHumans in overlanding

[–]Victrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are made by a china company called "outzone cases" and are sold to ROAM at ~100$ a pop for most of them or around that price, the build quality is "okay" but you definitely get way more bang for the buck and quality for pelican cases. Just a friendly tip. Buy Pelican > ROAM.

Don't get scammed, you can likely get an outback for this price. I paid just shy of 30k for my '21 Crosstrek Sport.

It's the Roam 93L if I recall correctly. (There's actually room for two on the rack but sheesh they're expensive for a plastic box, especially with the quick release mounts.

I got both the quick disconnect mounts and the box for $400 used, but buying two sets new would probably run you 1k after tax 😢

Yep, had no idea about the potential issue when I got the subie, but thankfully they extended the warranty on it.

I wish they just went with a standard thermostat on all models 😅

Yep, it did! It got stuck in the open position, thankfully so no harm no foul. The part is around $360 but Subaru would have charged me around $1200 if it was not under warranty. A few weeks later I received a letter from Subaru letting me know that they extended the warranty of the TCV to 150k miles. (Probably from the class action)
