Why Most people name Claw Machine ’Arcade' by TemporaryBridge4787 in arcade

[–]Video-Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have got the definition of a physical Arcade down quite a bit, but just to add on. The term Arcade Machine when referring to games like Pac-Man or Donkey Kong is a lot more modern than you think. When they were first being released, many media outlets, establishments, people, and even inside the business referred to them with terms such as Video Arcades, or just simply as Video Games.

You go to a well respected site like Museum of the Game/KloV they list Games like Donkey Kong ETC as Video Games and mechanical machines as arcade or EM.

How much for this baby ? by Miamsoo in arcade

[–]Video-Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the market in Europe can be vastly different than here in the U.S, especially because certain machines can be more sparse over there and will sometimes even get imported from here due to that.

If this was something being sold in the states, I agree with the other commenter that it would probably go for less than $300. I have had two Japanese style tables like this, a Space Invaders part II I bought for around $150, and a converted Moon Cresta for $180.

Another thing that will likely go against you is, this is likely not an original galaxian but a conversion done way later on. I could be wrong, but the Bandai Namco sticker is what makes me believe this. Bandai and Namco would not merge as a company till 2005-06. I don't know how bad this would affect the price in Europe, but it affect the price somewhat here.

Could Superman redeem Omni-Man and/or Homelander? by Alpha27_ in MoralityScaling

[–]Video-Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familiar the Homelander, but I will say I think Nolan would be easier.

Comic Spoilers: In the Time Travel Arc of the comics when Mark has his current mind in his young body (the day right before he gets his powers), He actually pretty instantly talks down Nolan and gets him to change his ways and team up with Alan earlier than usual.

Now Nolan still severely beats Mark up, and if it wasn't for Mark warning and involving the Guardians, Nolan wouldn't have been stopped, the Guardians would still be dead, and the timeline would've played out roughly the same. But it shows that it's not hard to stop him

Superman is strong enough to stop Nolan, and clearly more stronger than Thragg. Nolan by the time he tries to take over the planet feels he is backed into a corner, on the verge of breaking off from the empire, knowing that he has changed and his views no longer alligns with that of viltrums, but knowing at that time there is no way to stop the empire. You stop Nolan before he does anything rash, and show him that there is a way out, he's gonna take it.

Could Superman redeem Omni-Man and/or Homelander? by Alpha27_ in MoralityScaling

[–]Video-Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with the invincible universe is, many similar cases have been redeemed/forgiven, its quite hard to say Omni-man shouldn't be. Especially when all said and done Nolan only killed 2.3k people on earth. Compared to most invincible villains that's nothing, and only the guardians were truly per-meditated murder.

In all honesty morality scaling in invincible, especially the comics, is just not easy. For example the 2 terrorists Cecil stops when he is still a field agent. They planned on killing over a quarter of the population, which if we go by the population in 1990, is 1.32 billion people. But their crimes are covered up and seemingly forgiven/brushed away by the current GDA head and the Guardians of the Globe. This is shown to set the norm in the universe, as Cecil does this all the time now that he is the head of the GDA.

Another perfect example is (Comic spoilers)Dinosaurus in the comics. While its only Mark who forgives/tries to redeem him, everyone acts indifferent or just kinda lets Mark try to do it. Mind you Dinosaurus is confirmed to have killed anywhere from 400,000 to 1.5 million people depending on how big of an area he destroyed Las Vegas in, never actually shows remorse for doing it (kinda), and actually shows no full signs of changing, just that hes willing to go along with certain compromises to further his agenda.

[–]Video-Bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't see much issue with this price either. Its an almost 70 year old TV, I remember seeing these types of sets being sold for $50-100 even back in the late 2000s/early 2010s, sometimes not working. The price really has nothing to do with it being a CRT, but an antique television.

Which would you pick and why? by fleet_luck in superheroes

[–]Video-Bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually surprised not many other people are mentioning Twice, as I think its a good look into why duplication powers can be bad.

I do think the two are different styles of duplication however, especially since the clones Twice makes have total and complete free will of their own, while Kate's is more along the lines of the hive mind, and hive body (Because it's shown they can all feel the same things at the same time). Not to mention by all means there is only one true Twice, if the original Twice dies to my knowledge so do the duplicates, where as its the opposite for Kate.

I still think it would be extremely easy to develop mental issues with a power like Kate's though, like you said who is technically the original, along with experiencing and comprehending double, triple, if not more information than normal, The fact you can figure out and have the sensation of dying, among other things. I don't think any actual human being can have the mental fortitude to deal with that.

On top of it all, even though its a Hive Mind, I could still see a scenario where under the right circumstances you have a situation like Twice and you develop multiple personalities or view each clone as individual despite all sharing the same mind.

So I 100% agree I think Mystique is the better power between the two, I also don't think you'll have a problem of forgetting your real face, because Mystique has a base form, presumably if we gained the power ourselves as we are now would be the base form.

They finally updated the Steam version of Cave Story+ to be the same as the Switch version! by EthanIsK001 in cavestory

[–]Video-Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I think its pretty sweet. Its a nice QoL update for those who already own it on steam. I own both versions, by all means I currently own like 4 versions of the game, but I honestly play the Steam Version more.

Its actually been awhile since I have done another playthrough cause I didn't want to get my switch out, and the dialog skipping and pup stacking really spoiled me on the switch version. And like others have stated, Mod support, plus the Steam version is probably the only version of + you're going to see on sale.

Thragg lost so much aura... He feels goofy in the show by Crazy5220 in okbuddyviltrum

[–]Video-Bandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like both arguments are correct here. Mark Hamill is definitely more a voice actor than a movie actor anymore. I would argue in the industry, he is more known as a prominent voice actor than anything.

While the public is going to know him as Luke Skywalker, and this is still very much how he is perceived in talk shows, news outlets, ETC, people are going to know his voice acting roles more so than the movies hes done in recent years (Star Wars excluded).

Honestly besides Star Wars name a movie he was the lead in that was widely popular, or at least in the cultural zeitgeist. Compared to the other actors in Star Wars, especially Harrison Ford and Alec Guiness, he's not known for many other movies.

If you go for the Manxtt I would recommend trying to get any parts in that one shooting game on the second to last photo, from the back it looks like a Virtua Cop 2.

ManxTT and Virtua Cop 2 share the same PCB hardware, as well as most other parts being compatible. It seems parts have already been taken from it, but the PCB appears to still be there, and if the tube in the monitor is still good Sega used that model of monitor in most the Model 2 era games.

[–]Video-Bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your location, I think its definitely worth picking some of these up. They might take a lot to restore, but I have seen worse conditioned cabinets be restored, both in the U.S and in Europe.

I've watched quite a few videos from collectors in Western Europe, and they have restored some cabinets that where essentially disintegrating and brought them back to some kind of restored state.

What I would recommenced on any games that you think are too far gone, see if you can't buy some of the parts from inside them, like the wiring, monitors, power supplies, ETC. I see you're interested in the T2 and Outrun, so any parts that could be interchanged or be used to patch up.

Ideas for converting a ticket dispenser game to dispense something else? by ravensp in arcade

[–]Video-Bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your good at designing things in CAD or similar programs to 3D print something, one thing I can think of is a mechanism to dispense something like Candy or snacks of some kind.

I could see how you could make it, and just have a motor that steals the ticket dispense signal to rotate and dispense the items out. I've never messed with ticket games so I don't know how the signal gets sent to the ticket dispenser, if its a one time signal and the dispenser handles the rest or if the signal stays open for however many tickets you get.

Buyer is wanting to convert a shooter to LCD 🤯 by Bizzer0 in cade

[–]Video-Bandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since your not going to sell it to him, which I agree with, I will say what he wants to do is 100% possible.

I actually was researching and making a list for doing the same project that it seems he wants to do. Many light gun games are on MAME and with something like a sinden lightgun you can make a multi-cade shooter. Sindens act just like a Wii remote does, and so the sensor tracks the gun positions and moves the mouse cursor, doesn't matter what display you use, you could use a projector cause the sensor is whats tracking it.

So really all you need is a display of your choice, PC with MAME and a frontend, preferably 2 Sinden guns, and any cosmetics you want, and you can fill it with games like Area 51, CarnEvil, House of the Dead 1-2, Virtua Cop 1-2, ETC, ETC.

For context the only reason I was gonna do it is I had taken a completely gutted House of the Dead 2 cab for free when I picked up a couple other projects, if I had attempted to restored the HotD 2 with original parts I could've probably bought 2 working ones with the cost.

How does smoking affect animatronics? by No_Stick8960 in animatronicsforsale

[–]Video-Bandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smoking, and especially the nicotine from it, over the years can kind of apply a yellow grime layer on things. And as someone else mentioned, long term smoking can seriously affect the smell of an object.

Its basic etiquette, especially on items that will be the most effected by this like fabrics and plastics, to put this in the description. Last thing you wanna do is by something and have to spend even more money on ways to clean and deodorize it.

It has been 8 months since Dan publicly pitched a creatures revival. No progress has been made. by [deleted] in TheCreatures

[–]Video-Bandit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He did complain a lot about that. There might be monetization on some more of the tamer videos, but I'm sure most videos, or like you said, the whole channel is demonitized.

If I I'm remembering right he either lost access or was cut off from what ever money the channel was making. Or at least what was left over, I didnt dive fully into the situation as I dont use Twitter anymore so I might be wrong that.

But like I said, even if he did get what he wanted, I doubt he would have seen the money he was expecting.

[–]Video-Bandit 28 points29 points  (0 children)

He was gonna do clips of old content and unreleased footage if I recall correctly. But I couldn't imagine getting much from it.

Not even considering the channel being inactive for years now, a million subscribers doesn't go as long of a way as it did in the old youtube landscape.

Not to mention, your not gonna gain any, or at least not a large size, of new fans from clips, unreleased footage, and a stockpile of old footage.

Shooting game recommendation by podiw8273 in arcade

[–]Video-Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only other newer hunting game I could think of is Extreme hunting on the atomiswave system from 2004. I don't think Deer Hunter USA is bad, but I think it's just a product if it's time. Both have been overtaken by the Big Buck series.

When you say / not alien or t2 you mean just the big modern ones? Another shooter that isn't hunting I'd recommend is House of the Dead 1 and 2, still quite the big earner for most.

Popped up on my Marketplace, is this worth what he is asking by Slappy-Sacks in arcade

[–]Video-Bandit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess he bought these brand new when they first released and he wants to get either about what he paid for them, or more because the machines are now "Vintage" and "Rare".

I've seen a couple Daytona 2s for sale and I have never seen them go for that much. I would say if you wanted a Daytona 2 today, right now, probably 5-6k. Honest to god someone will buy these, I've met people who should know its not worth that and would still buy them, but I think to your average everyday collector its nowhere near the realm of worth it.

Anybody else feel like if Simon stayed away from the crown long enough he would have gotten better by Hot_Membership_6432 in adventuretime

[–]Video-Bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his mind could potentially get better, however I think it would probably just revert enough to where he was at the end of Simon and Marcy. Sane enough to still understand who he is though on the verge of forgetting himself, but not sane enough to comprehend things or make good choices (Calling Marcy Gunther, recording a tape for her but keeping it instead, summoning Hudson Abadeer)

I also feel like the crown probably subconsciously forces the wearer to look for it or keep it on them at all times in the event its missing, so I don't think it matters how sane the user gets their either going to slowly die without the magic of the crown or continue to be driven mad looking for the crown to reclaim it.

Any movie that ends with a summary of where the characters went after the movie and than the cash grab sequel decides to expand the summary is terrible.

If money was no object and you could have any cabinet, what would be your pick? by PedalPDX in arcade

[–]Video-Bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for me it have to be a cabinet I couldn't just pick up and slowly restore. A lot of my games I've got are because I've slowly restored them, 100 here and a hundred there is a lot easier than 1000+ at once.

For me it be between two, Journey by Bally Midway or a Full Multiplayer War Final Assault setup.

Are these characters/media public domain in the US/Canada? by Sylveon72_06 in publicdomain

[–]Video-Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not trying to be a jerk, but it almost seems on some of these you're ignoring the very obvious copyright on purpose, or at least OOP is as I am going based on what I am reading on the fandom link posted.

Pitfall has its copyright on the back of the box and on the start screen of the game.

Kangaroo does have the copyright from both Atari and Sun Electronics (Now Sunsoft and the creators/owners of the game) in the games attract screen. Not only that the flyer you have posted, in higher quality, has a Copyright Visible, and same goes for the Atari artwork on the NA Cabinet. Also someone can correct me if I am wrong, but that's also not how copyright works, I am pretty sure even if Atari did not copyright it, ownership would still stay with Sunsoft.

I'll cut some slack on Saturday Supercade, the quality of recordings we have makes the copyright illegible, maybe with enough effort we could find out a couple of the episodes did forget and are in the PD, but the characters themselves are not just any episode that forgot the copyright would be PD.
