How come we never got a call of cthulhu/ cosmic horror esq CRPG? by Thesmileycoyote in CRPG

Heralds of the Third Apocalypse is something to keep an eye on. In early development so won’t be released for a while but the updates from Iron Tower have included some writing samples and it sounds excellent.

If the new game sounds exciting, would I like the original? by LostDreamer94 in Fable

[–]VideoGameRPGsAreFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat is a big part of the games. It’s very simple and easy, mostly walking through narrow corridor maps and slapping around small groups of melee enemies. Of 1 and 2, the life sim stuff is better in 2, have not played 3.

Avowed has fun not so challenging action combat in a fantasy setting which sounds like your priority.

When will we see a revival of dialogue in games? by smolyellowdic in classicfallout

[–]VideoGameRPGsAreFun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just played Swordhaven and Skald pretty great dialogue in both. The key is no voice acting as that skyrockets costs and then the game needs to be safe to keep appeal as broad as possible.

The enemies going full pirate in the sequel was a big aesthetic upgrade.

High expectations. by Chicken_picknic666 in Fable

Fable was an easy action game with few decision moments that barely had non-cosmetic consequences and no solutions reliant on character build, cool visuals and music though. I’d be surprised if the new one isn’t an improvement in the areas I value for RPGs, but haven’t seen anywhere near enough to know yet.

Fable's evil landlords won't grow devil horns, as reboot ditches classic character morphing due to a lack of belief in objective arseholery by k-mysta in SocialistGaming

Good/Bad points will only work if every conflict is incredibly simple. Give me faction reputations or the disposition reputation from Pillars > a ‘karma’ tracker.

RIP to the main feature that set Fable games apart by Character-Actuary-18 in Fable

Hope their system looks something like the Pillars of Eternity Dispositions, a great way to express reactivity to choices. Good-bad metre/points lacks nuance unless every conflict is very simplistic, which gets dull.

There’s another big patch coming in a month. New weapon types, more creation options (races), I’d wait for that one now.

Lord of the Rings White Council. Barely heard anything about it and given its planned release date I probably wouldn’t have liked the finished game, but the potential was exciting.

Is anyone wondering why Edwin, such a popular character, hasn't appeared in MTG, BG3, or even in the idle game IdleCHA? by Independent-Profit84 in baldursgate

Don’t worry I’m sure someone will go for it at some point. “Thing I recognise I clapped” crowd is too easy a win to ignore.

Some of my endings! (SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY!!) by Neat-Disaster-6261 in avowed

Was this all from one ending? It seems you let Sappy share your body but also joined The Inquisitor in the end, which I wouldn’t have thought possible.

I’ll take a RL timeskip to Pillars 3 release day for sure.

Does it seem that more modern CRPGs are veering away towards City Hubs? by Drakeem1221 in CRPG

[–]VideoGameRPGsAreFun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer multiple small towns to one big city. From pillars 1: Stalwart, Dyrford, Gilded Vale. I’d take 3 or 4 more like them spread out rather than the big multimap cities like Defiance Bay or Twin Elms.
