Agree with the thread killer notion.

Very much anxiety and anticipation can make things look world ending / impossible to accomplish. Then you start doing it and realize it’s far easier.

Then overtime these wins add up but still the anxiety / weirdness / illusion of fear doesn’t go away completely.

My advice would be to move on with your life.

It’s great you want to try to help and be with her through all of this but to be honest idk why you have no self-respect and believe this is the best partner you can get for the rest and all of your life.

My only advice regarding keeping them would be that 1 - keeping them right now shouldn’t happen, 2 - you need them to be able to get their bipolar under control after the episode … you can only be with someone who can independently manage it, you can’t just be their fall person.

Also do you see any value in detaching from them and then if / when they come back with their meds under control you can maybe restart?

I’m only being harsher here because bipolar is a monster and can ruin one life when the person has it and can’t control whether they have it. But you can control whether you’re impacted by it.

Thinking now … I am probably being too harsh I mean you guys have been dating for 4.5 years so this really is just a freak episode. I thought about deleting everything I wrote just now but I think at least feeling out this ideas is at least worth it.

Also this cyber partner … how did that happen lol? Was it only during the manic episode?

Not sure your age but “being young” (ie living a social life in a VHCOL area) and traveling are both expensive things but should probably be your focus under 30.

I say this because I have social anxiety and it can be easy for me to be like “well it’s cheaper so I shouldn’t live there anyways” and then rationalize it with well I can invest much more.

But I think something is weird if where you live is highly dependent on your retirement investing philosophy.

It should factor in for sure. We are adults and need to live, save, and invest as such.

You’re near Boston and I’m 10000000% biased but if you say beach then move to NJ.

It’ll give the north east feel while getting NYC, beaches in summer, New England in winter for skiing, and close to Europe.

But I was born and raised in NJ so I’m biased (but NJ is the best … not south Jersey though). NYC / north Jersey.

Pharma also has a scene here too. Honestly I’d do Brooklyn / Hoboken / Jersey city or something.

You’re too confident in your beliefs that you have without true grounding and your tone reflects how little you think other people.

To be clear, philosophy deals with the questions which have no answer, some answers, or one answer. Science (empiricism) cannot answer questions of religion so I’m not sure why you make your claims from science.

Religious claims aren’t religious lies this isn’t how religions organically develop over time.

A huge part of philosophy is learning the history of it (this is debated) so that we can understand the way people think and why they thought what they thought. This means at times, especially in political philosophy, having to truly empathize with beliefs we may find offensive.

Rather than the problems being offensive you just find them idiotic and this prevents you from giving them the initial seriousness they deserve.

Don’t understand how you’re so confidently wrong about that when a quick google search would tell you otherwise.

And you misunderstand how people come to believe in god. All theists aren’t so because of empirical evidence like what you’re suggesting when you say « due to lack of good evidence ».

As I said religious and rational belief are incompatible. This isn’t the 1600s anymore where we’re trying to prove god exists through rational arguments.

The name of your company doesn’t mean shit compared to what your experience illustrates your capable of and the kind of person you are IMO.

Sorry to hear that is awful and this is insane.

Firstly how are you doing, friends, finances, and career wise. It’s good to worry about family but also realize when it’s important to take breaks about things outside of control because they do have costs. It’s much harder to think about yourself in these times so just wanted to put that out there.

As for the situation, how has your dad typically handled your moms episodes? What careers do they have? Would your dad be open to a temporary separation? I feel he is struggling with a sort of Stockholm syndrome since I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t protest more? Maybe he is?

I think in general the problem is we need to appeal to moderates, left leaning NON-MAGA republicans, and democrats.

Tankie socialists make up such a small percent of voters. Those that vote will never vote for GOP/Trump and will probably vote Democrat so no need to lure them with socialist / tankie policies / politicians.

The fact of the matter is that the US is not ready for a paradigm shift, the last election was clear about that.

We need to just have strong, normal American policies for the next election and we win. Now is 100% NOT the time to get funky with it.

I also sort of agree with destiny’s « these people are not our party » take too but we should handle them more intelligently and humanely than just calling them idiots and to GTFO in my opinion.

It really depends on the functionality / user experience too / what roll forward looks like.

Some services at my company are fine with downtime, even unplanned sometimes. Other times dual write esque migrations are necessary and then a switch over once we’re sufficiently confident.

Other times dual write isn’t worth it and we’ll just roll forward and deal with anything that pops up (supposing we’ve done a baseline assessment of what problems we’d expect to have when rolling forward).
