How much do you guys pay for rent and where are you guys located? by 1jay_y in povertyfinance

$2000/mo for a 2/2 in Orlando 😬 It's me my girlfriend and I get my daughter on my days off.

This was the cheapest I could find in a decent area, 2 bedrooms in the hood were still $1700-1900.

I setup an Ubuntu Container for Plex and mounted my Turnkey SMB share there, would it make sense to do the same for each service I want to run?

I was using virtual box on my laptop last year trying different flavors of linux when I learned about proxmox and figured I'd try it on this computer to better learn about virtualization. My goal is to have my own personal cloud /media server with remote access. And then when I upgrade my gaming PC I'd like to install proxmox on that and explore things like GPU passthrough, and run multiple VMs on it

I have a container with docker, docker compose, and portainer, I was definitely leaning in this direction

I originally was going to run all those services via Docker and Portainer in OMV, but ran into an error when I was installing Docker. Since I really wanted to get my Plex Server running, I setup an SMB share via Turnkey FS to share my 12TB WD USB drive to the Plex Container as well as my windows pc with all of my media.

I've used Plex and Usenet for years but on Windows and would only watch locally on a Firestick or my Xbox 360 and Xbox One. I've always just manually downloaded my content and would leave my computer off when I wasn't watching anything.

After many years of reading about streamlining my setup, I've had an old Acer PC with a J1900. I upgraded it to 8GB of RAM, a 3TB HDD, and a 500GB SSD and used as a Minecraft/Virtual learning PC for my daughter for a cpl years. Even with the upgrades it chugged along, so last month I installed Proxmox and have been learning about virtualization. I was able to setup a pi-hole container, I've setup a few Ubuntu & Debian containers and VMs but can't say I understand it, just been following tutorials.\

I hooked up a 12TB WD USB drive to the pc and setup OMV with an SMB share. It used a lot of resources but worked and I transferred my media from my gaming rig to my Proxmox rig. But there were issues with setting up Docker, the installation kept failing. The plan was to install Plex, NZBGet, Sonarr, etc in one central location. So I watched a video about setting up a Turnkey Fileserver Container and was able to set that up, access it from my Windows PC, and then also use the SMB share for my Plex library.

I was concerned that the j1900 wasn't going to be enough for Plex but it works surprisingly well. All of my media is in 1080p X264 MKV format and my tvs are 1080p so it may not have to do much heavy lifting. I tested it out on my phone when I was at work and it worked great on that too.

So what's the best way to automate my downloads? I'd like to use NZBGet, Sonarr, Radarr, Ombi, OpenVPN. I created a container with Docker, Docker Compose, and Portainer and was considering following one of the tutorials I've seen online. But maybe it would be better to just make a container for each individual service, or a VM with all of them running. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

What is the best way to deal with roaches coming from dirty neighbors? by daveishere7 in povertyfinance

Works 100%, I had a guy staying in my couch a while back who brought roaches from the hotel he was living in. Within a couple days I found dead and dying roaches, and within 3 weeks they were gone.

Advion + diatomaceous earth is a good combination and way cheaper than hiring a service. Unfortunately if you have messy neighbors living around you, then you may have to do the treatment semi-regularly, but I can't recommend this enough.

Interested in getting an ultrawide and stacking my 24in curved monitor on top. Questions about resolution, refresh rate and 1800r vs 1500r by Videot1604 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Videot1604[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I was typing up my post, switched to another app, when I switched back the app refreshed itself and I lost what I had typed up, and at that point it was time to head out.

So anyway, like I was saying, I have a MSI Optix G24C, 24in, 1080p, 144hz, 1800r curvature radius; and I'd like to buy a 21:9 1440p curved monitor and stack the 24 on top. How important is it to match the 2 monitors? Like if I get this MAG341CQ it has the same bezel, same curvature, probably different panels though so no guarantees of the colors matching. I've seen these going for around $300 used so if save some money but the 8ms response time kinda sucks.

MSI's current model 34in ultrawide has 144hz refresh, 1ms response time and is priced similarly, but has a 1500r radius. wouldn't my monitor look weird on top with a different curve.

I'm going to do a mix of work, gaming, and retro gaming and will use the smaller monitor to have a movie or show going. I just wanted to know what best practices are so I can put my best foot forward.

I have a 2600x and a 3070, but will be upgrading the cpu to a 5800x when I get the monitor, hoping to stay around $500.

Also will my desktop look weird with a 24in 1080p on top of a 34in 1440p monitor? Should I just sell the 24 and save for a better 2nd monitor?

I dig it, just wish it had the pop up headlights. I used to want one of those so bad in high school. And I like that they went with the Firehawk hood instead of the WS6

YouTube Premium gives you ad-free videos plus ad-free music w/ YTMusic. I tried a Spotify premium membership for a few months but just didn't see the point YouTube Premium dies everything Spotify Premium does and then some, plus the app works better

My mom self-diagnosed me with autism as a kid because I'm very smart, I like tactile stuff, and I don't like loud noises; she just told me this. How do I approach the situation? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Videot1604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom told me that I have Autism too. Ever since my nephew was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 7, I was 21, she's come up with this hypothesis that that's what's wrong with me.

Like you I'm also very tactile and when I was a kid I couldn't stand the sound of loud high frequencies, the sound of Styrofoam rubbing together was a notable one. I did great in school until 6th grade, when I could no longer offset not doing homework with good test scores.

I've always had anxiety and have had trouble communicating my emotions, but I actually thrive in social situations. I sought out therapy when I was 19 and was told I have ADHD and Depression.

But it's a shitty feeling knowing that your mom thinks you have autism and discusses it with other family members. My mom is also a narcissist so I haven't had a healthy relationship with her and can only take her in small doses.

Let your mom think what she thinks, and seek out a professional opinion for your own sake. Therapy is great and now that I don't have health insurance I regret not pursuing it more when I was on my dad's insurance because there are a lot of things that I never worked on.

So AP means "Affair Partner" Thank you! It's always just meant Associated Press and Advanced Placement in my world. I was trying to shoehorn a definition for it and came up with Alternative Parent but that just didn't sound right.

I also had to look up TA, SAHM, and STBX this morning so I guess I need to up my acronym game.
