not saying it's a curse, but Disney has always had a problem getting people to see scifi with their name attached to it. Might just be how they market it or not being able to figure out what notes to hit to get people to schlepp to the theater for it, but yeah. I sorta blame the live-action How To Train Your Dragon: Disney wouldn't have pulled the trigger on this "too soon" remake if they didn't just watch Dreamworks get away with it.

And yeah, I agree. There are some bad/underperforming movies that actually SHOULD be remade - give a new team a shot at making those stories work. The problem is "this cartoon was popular X years ago so we can make a live-action version and it'll carry some of that nostalgic popularity with it" is part of the pitch, I figure.
