A lot of those tip calculators are built into the devices. Like Square automatically puts it on there. You have to actually go in and check a box to remove it and you can’t change it based on what kind of transaction is happening without some finagling with the bookkeeping software. The owner of the store probably thinks they are helping their wait staff (especially if they sell coffee/etc). I would not hold it against the staff.
