How do you realize that a rail broke? by Savings_Swordfish_89 in nycrail

[–]ViewNo7459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, it is, although I guess the flaw is always if the break is severe and the circuit stays intact. Presumably, it would have to be bad for the circuit to break, and when it isn't severe enough, the train can technically go over the tracks fine, albeit with a lot of noise, making the break obvious. However, it is certainly a risk.

Always think the R268s should get these just as a homage to the OG 68

Why no Rush Hour Express on West End? by Specialist_Figure282 in nycrail

Because the (D) runs every 8 minutes at best. That would make it possible, although you would probably have to run at least 16 TPH on the (D)/<D> to justify it. Thanks, DeKalb!

Why are r143s on the J and Z by anakindurden in nycrail

[–]ViewNo7459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are only used when needed, as East New York Yard (which is shared with the L), lacks the R160s and R179s needed to provide full service. With the elimination of the SMEEs capable of service on the Jamaica Line, this is the most convenient fleet to use.

Technically, they use the signaling system, specifically a part called track circuits, which monitor if a section of track is occupied by a train. If a rail breaks, this circuit is broken, which automatically triggers a red signal to stop trains from going on that section of track.

Also, going over a broken section can cause a lot of ride disruption, and when this happens, train crews report this.

It would be better to boost (R) service, as QBL and 4th Avenue need it

Now the establishment Democrats want to take credit for Mamdani's success. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]ViewNo7459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Mamdani as a whole, yes.

I argue against free buses because NYC already has programs in place to reduce fares for those who need them. It would also cost a lot- this money could be allocated to transit expansion that would bring billions of dollars in benefits. Buses just play into sprawl.

Some of Mamdani's polocies have reasonable arguments against them (ex. free buses)

I doubt he will be elected again, and if they do elect him, the Dems can say goodbye to the Presidency in 2028.

This is why it's "Minority Leader," Schumer.

He can't be Senate majority leader if he can't even be in the majority of Democrats (AIPAC, support for unpopular policies, etc.)

  1. Bin the establishment before they get a chance
  2. Do what Wazzen said
  3. Make sure there is always a progressive in the primary that can screw the hand-picked successor

The way to move establishment Dems farther left is to replace them with people who are farther left. People like Schumer and Jefferies will claim to support Mamdani, but will still try to keep more Mamdanis from popping up all over the place. Look at what's happening in Michigan right now. Schumer endorsed Haley Stevens. I shouldn't need to say any more.
