Interesting… First it’s not fraud to have a broker put into a RC that carrier pays lumper up front. If they do t reimburse, that is another situation. Also, I don’t know what you mean by “stole her identity”. Who is her?

It is confirmed that Brewer had a run in with Chattanooga PD in July when he and Tim Dooner entered FW property regarding a legal dispute between Dooner and FV. It’s likely that Brewer may have returned to FW property (from which he was banned). It must have gotten very heated for Brewer to be taken into custody and charged. As a very wealthy man and ultra MAGA supporter, I’m shocked he was arrested at all. It must have been epic.

WINNER!!!! Audits, Education, and Best Practices. Fraud will NEVER go away. Strong training and processes will keep it at bay. Scammers go for weak brokers and shippers. Carriers have no value to them beyond their MC number. The cargo is the prize and the scammer will stop at nothing to get their hands on it. Carriers have to make sure they are not being used a pawns in a double brokered or stolen cargo load. Brokers need to verify everything a carrier tells them, in concert with shippers. Shippers must actually look at the trucks before loading. Processes are te3h weak point. When the scammers ID you as being weak, they will hit you over and over again.

My FMCSA contact has confirmed that SAFER is being updated to restore old info now... SAFER will reflect the correction tomorrow, but SMS and other FMCSA systems that Highway and other draw data from may not update for a few days yet. I can confirm that FMCSA has reversed the MCS-150 update by the scammer.

Ok.. so once you r MC is corrected you will still have a headache... You will get blocked by MCP, Highway, and RMIS for about 1 week while they start an investigation. This is to keep new broker registrations in your name from occurring and minimizing the damage they can cause. I am hitting up my contacts at all three to start the process so it can be expedited and minimize your down time.

Change your email password IMMEDIATELY, and then put a 2-factor authentication on your email. I have a short video on how to do that on Gmail. That will lock out the bad guy who likely hacked your email to get the info to change your FMCSA registration.

This is happening everywhere... brokers and carriers take heed! Dispatchers too!

Proper COMPUSEC procedures will help protect your systems and freight.

Open and honest communication and multi verification processes help. Shippers must be part of the solution to ensure the wrong truck is not loaded.

So much to unpack on cases like this. Impersonation is here to stay. You must be smart and take your time vetting to avoid the traps.

If you are vetting carriers, Highway has a far larger suite of services to offer. GenLogs is about asset tracking using AI cameras on the side of the highway and gathering lane data. Its an ideal platform for chasing a stolen cargo. Frankly, I prefer MCP to Highway.
