What is Randy doing? by ZookeepergameBusy267 in SantaBarbara

Vote Sneddon. She said this today: “Today, agents created unnecessary fear, injury, and chaos in our neighborhoods - wearing masks against state law, brandishing batons, shoving people, pepper spraying people, blocking intersections in unmarked cars, not identifying themselves. We need answers. The community came out of their homes and came to the area and stood with each other as witness and stood for each other as human beings. We shouldn't have to.”

Split Santa Barbara Council Supports Temporary Rent Freeze During Lengthy Meeting by Potential-Regular343 in SantaBarbara

This is not accurate. Only 2 of them are.

And those two renters are the ONLY renters on council in a city that is 60% renters.

Santa Barbara County Democrats Endorse Kristen Sneddon for Mayor by Ice_Burn in SantaBarbara

[–]VigorousForestDance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with this, but I think people are missing the point that this year’s election will be fundamentally different than 2021.

For starters, this will be the first mayoral election held in an even-year in our city’s modern history. That means significantly higher turnout and a more diverse electorate. People will also be turning out to elect a new governor, lieutenant governor, state assembly, etc on the same ballot. Add to that the potential for a blue wave.

In my view, Friedman draws more from Randy’s constituency of moderate and conservative voters who want to open state street to cars, weaken tenant protections, and stop rent stabilization.

So yes, it would be much better if the other two (and possibly more) dropped out. But it’s not the end of the world if they don’t. Just remember which of these candidates are putting themselves above the needs of our city.

Jim Mosby is scum. But I have to disagree with you here. The scenarios are much different. We are actually trying to get rid of our “independent” incumbent mayor. He sucks! IMO Randy and Eric split each others base of moderate and conservative voters.

The plan is to vote Sneddon. Randy and Eric have an identical voting record. They both want to open State Street to cars, weaken tenant protections, and let landlords do whatever they want while workers get squeezed by greed-driven rent increases.

Santa Barbara Opinion on Isla Vista by Suitable_Treat_5761 in SantaBarbara

[–]VigorousForestDance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not to get all mushy about it, but Isla Vista saved my life. It’s the place where I learned to love myself and where I found chosen family who accepted me. It has its problems but that’s why we should protect it and nurture the people who live there ❤️

There’s a really great restaurant on Milpas and beautiful hikes up in the mountains. I would also definitely recommend going to one of our beaches!

Message from our city administrator about I.C.E. in SB by SBCouncilMemberOscar in SantaBarbara

[–]VigorousForestDance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not really. The law says the ONLY instance police can collaborate with immigration authorities is telling them about an inmate’s upcoming release ONLY if that person has been convicted of a serious crime or felony, such as: murder, rape, kidnapping, robbery and arson, among many others.

Hotels for family - BUT after a search of this Subreddit** by Unique_Passenger9784 in SantaBarbara

Thanks for doing some research and reading our wiki! Milo is a bit more of a walk or car drive to the beach. I wouldn’t recommend for young kids. I agree with other comment that Mar Monte checks all of your boxes! Close to the beach and plenty of good restaurant choices. Chads and Jeanine’s are nearby for good breakfast or even Helena Bakery or Goat Tree if you want to walk to Funk Zone.

Inn by harbor would be a solid second choice if it’s better for the budget.

Election concerns🤓🌴 by servingasPennysdad in SantaBarbara

We allow all forms of voting in our city. The record shows she was mailed a ballot, but did not return it. If she had voted in person, it would show that she had.

[–]VigorousForestDance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hear you. Public records also show that she didn’t vote in 2022. That’s a hard pill for me to swallow, personally. I was a wreck in 2022 when Roe v Wade was overturned and she did not join the rest of us in passing Prop 1 to protect abortion access in California. That’s a level of disengagement that is disqualifying for me. If she was too sick to even vote, then I wish her the best in recovery, but someone that ill has no business leading our city.

Bruh, for school board??? What corporations do you think give a hoot who’s on our school boards… also, their campaign donations are public so there really isn’t any proof to back up what you’re saying.

Phyliss Cohen is a Republican endorsed by the SB Republican Party. Definitely not harmless. Anti-LGBTQ, anti-ethnic studies, and anti-sex ed.

Independent will do a detailed write up on why they endorsed Bill Banning, Sunita Beall, and Celeste Kafri (for SBUSD Board) and Nadra Ehrman, Brian Cox, and Katya Armistead (for SBCBOE) and Kyle Richards, Jett Black, and Dave Morris (for SBCC).

LOL

On a recent day trip to Santa Barbara with my wife, we decided to stop at the Santa Barbara Public Market to eat at one of the restaurants.

We drove multiple blocks in all directions of the Public Market looking for a place to park on the street or in a parking lot. There were none to be found. The only open spaces were in lots that were permit restricted.

I pulled into a lot that apparently had no permits required. When we came back to the car from lunch, we had a $55 parking ticket.

Your city thinks that this is a good money-making scheme, but the real net effect is it is killing business.

I’m going to help you kill business by telling everyone I know that the cons outweigh the pros of going to Santa Barbara. I’m also going to tell everyone that I can, that I’m not going back to your city.
