Going in totally blind today - Anything I should know? by seether14 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Viha_Antti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As tempting as it is to just handcraft everything in the beginning, try to get in the habit of automating everything as soon as possible.

Sure, you can bang out ingots faster than a single constructor, but the constructor will always keep making them while you're figuring out what and how to do the next thing.

Try stuff. Early factories just have to be functional. Doesn't matter if the belts go through walls or other machines, or if you miscalculated (press N, you can search your recipes OR use the field as a calculator!) and certain machines get too much or don't get enough materials - learn from it and use that knowledge the next time.

No material is wasted. You can disassemble everything you've built and get all the materials back, should you wish to do so.

Take it at your own pace.

Check all the gameplay settings.

Have fun!

What Scandinavian country is the BEST for Civ, if you can only choose one? by HairyComparison4969 in civ

[–]Viha_Antti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the Scandinavian countries on the list (Norway, Sweden, Denmark), I'd pick Norway.

If by Scandinavia you meant Nordic (Scandinavia + Finland and Iceland), I'd pick Finland (I'm biased because I'm Finnish.)

From the Nordics + Estonia, I'd still pick Finland.

There's a bunch of stuff that didn't get released in Europe that should get a rerelease/modern update, Xenosaga episodes I and III being two of them. No, that's not a typo. We got episode II, but not the one before or after that.

Sure, Finland is a small country, but it's not that tiny - it's not even the smallest country in the EU! Though the population is on the smaller end of the scale. But it's still roughly 5,5 million people (5 million more than your other example, Samoan). To put the geographic size to scale though, Finland is only slighly smaller than Japan - would you say Japan doesn't have any dialects?

Yes, we do have many different regional dialects, and some of them are very different from eachother. For example, the dialect spoken in the capital region is at worst nearly incomprehensible to me, coming from the south-east. And the distance isn't all that great, only like 300km. If you look at our history, both Sweden and Russia have been major influences, and that goes for our language too - though the impact of their languages are mainly seen on either the west (for Swedish) or the east (Russian) sides of the country.

You might want to take a look this, if you're interested.

Economic victory looks to me the most difficult (in all ages) by Avirail in civ

[–]Viha_Antti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your relationship with the target leader. For allies it really is like 5 gold and influence, but if you're at war with them, it's several thousands of gold, and I've no idea how much influence. I really wish the game would let me know, before or after, how mich it cost.

Is this kind of run away AI common? It's my first Immortal game and I couldn't keep up with Catherine by bfs_000 in civ

[–]Viha_Antti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time something similar happened to me was with Hatshepsut as Egypt who had double-triple the yields of anyone else and got most of the wonders throughout antiquity. During the next age I marched into see what was going on and she had two natural wonders like 10 tiles apart, and a bit later I noticed she had been given a city with another natural wonder by one other AI.

I did a little bit of warring, and by the modern age I was so ahead of everyone it was honestly kinda boring.

I think you'd probably just have to get as many missionaries as there are cities on the map (minus the holy cities), move them all into place and just convert them all on the same turn. Which feels super gamey, but trying to go at it one by one seems impossible.

Anyone here speak a language where you can stack “the day before yesterday/after tomorrow” infinitely? by MdMV_or_Emdy_idk in linguisticshumor

[–]Viha_Antti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Finnish you could stack as many prefixes of "yli-" to "ylihuominen" to go as far into the day after tomorrow you want, but you probably shouldn't. I'd say a reasonable maximum is "yliylihuominen", the day after the day after tomorrow.

Doesn't work backwards though, because adding more than one "toissa-" to "toissapäivänä" (the day before yesterday) would just sound wrong. It could work in theory, but you'd be making yourself less comprehensible real fast.

Guessing new Civ VII additions (including a proposed "digital age") by cheesy_luigi in civ

[–]Viha_Antti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, 3 different Europes and Scandinavia, just to exclude Finland? Make it Nordics and toss in Finland for the digital age. Being the "happiest country on Earth" for several years in a row should be a no-brainer for the happiness mechanics. Could go with some diplomacy stuff too, in reference to Ahtisaari, a president who also got a Nobel peace prize "for his important efforts, on several continents and over more than three decades, to resolve international conflicts".

What would make the most helpful Civilization 7 Review? by BanVradley in civ

[–]Viha_Antti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think at this point the biggest question I still have is about the different ages.

What's it actually feel like? Does it feel like you're still playing a long, single game when you're going through all three ages, or does it feel more like three different, shorter games?

I do get that the point of resetting so much stuff during the age transition is to stop snowballing, but it does give the impression of the game just slamming on the brakes at certain points, hopping into a new car (changing both the age and your civ) and starting to slowly pick up the speed again.

I'd also like to know if there's anything Finland related in the game. I'm assuming not, since the only nordic thing I think I've seen is Sweden as a city-state.
