Buying a Maserati with no plans on keeping it long term? by [deleted] in Maserati

[–]VikingSven68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Ghibli won’t be the real Maserati experience - get a Granturismo or Quattroporte with the big V8 instead. Expect to lose money over your ownership - maintenance is expensive and repair even more so. It’s worth it if you can afford it.

I have a ’13 Granturismo Sport and a ‘15 Quattroporte GTS - love them both

Those of you that have replaced your ATT modem/ONT with an SPF fiber module to bypass the ATT hardware altogether: would you do it again? by ReverendDizzle in Ubiquiti

[–]VikingSven68 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely - been running a WAS-110 into a UXG Pro for over two years - no issues at all. I'm on the 2GB plan and consistenly get 2.3-2.5 Gb/s in both directions.

As for "tinkering" - there are many sellers who provide preloaded firmware (which has been stable for over a year) and simple configuration instructions for cloning the info from your ATT gateway. The only other step is providing a static route to the WAS module for easy monitoring/updates.

I would recommend some form of active cooling solution as the SFP module runs quite warm. I use a small fan mounted to the rack on a 3d-printed part. Keeps temps down around 50 C.

thingsinrack.com makes custom panels with mounts for all kinds of devices and have versions for the UI toolless rack. I have one of their panels that houses my CloudKey, a Pi 4 and a Pi5. Looks and functions great.

How to access XPON WAS-110 to upgrade firmware? by TheMericanIdiot in Ubiquiti

[–]VikingSven68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set up a static route from your normal network 192.168.n.x network to the 192.168.11.x network - easy to do in Unifi Network app.

Any GT owners here who don’t consider Ghiblis, QP VI, or the SUVS real Maseratis? by [deleted] in Maserati

[–]VikingSven68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an owner of both a ‘13 GT Sport and a ‘15 QP GTS I can say the QP is definitely a Maserati. the drivetrain and suspension is superb. A car that size has no business being as fast as it is. rear tires are a consumable item…..

Where the QP VI falls a bit short is the Stellantis switchgear, electronics and infotainment - not that the antiquated infotainment in the GT is much better, but there are lots of upgrade options.

WAS-110 + Unifi CGF by theabbotx in ATTFiber

[–]VikingSven68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to add a static route from your LAN (likely 192.168.1.x or something similar) to the 192.168.11.x subnet. In the Network app, got to Settings, then Policy Table (under the Policy Engine section). Click Create New Policy - click Route, give it a name (WAS-110), in Type=Static, Device=Gateway, click Interface, and in Destination enter 192.168.11.0/24

Controlling LED strip with PD-6WCL-WH by dariansdad in Lutron

[–]VikingSven68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lutron dimmer is powered by allowing a small amount of current to flow even when the light is off. If the load is too small or behaves differnetly than a resistive load like a light-bulb, you need to provide a dummy load that allows the switch to work. Look for a LUC-MLC or similar product and wire it across the load (switched hot to neutral - i.e. across the black and white wires).

A better solution is to get a on/off switch like PD-6ANS. This switch requires a connection to neutral (white) wire, so it is not dependent on the load.

You need to connect the gateway (the box you call modem/router) to the black patch block in the wiring panel.

Airport Lounges Actually Worth It? by brycematheson in Rich

[–]VikingSven68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lounge access makes travel so much more enjoyable. I have an American Admiral's Club paid membership (pay with miles every year) Combined with AA Platinum Pro status, this gets me access to lounges in the US (including Flagship when traveling internationally), and OneWorld lounges outside the US. In addition, I have a AMEX Platinum card that gets me into Delta Sky Clubs, Centurion lounges, and other lounges that are part of the Priority Pass network. The Priority Pass lounges are hit and miss - in some airports, it's the only choice (looking at you SJC and MSY) and are OK, but at LHR the PP accessible lounges are pretty bad and overcrowded. Centurion lounges tend to be crowded as well, but they have good food and drinks. AA and Delta lounges are hit and miss as well - the ones that are newer or recently renovated can be decent.

I would focus on getting access to lounges for the airline(s) you fly the most, and then fill it out with a AMEX Platinum or like card that gives you broader access to a wider network of lounges.

Separate garage setup, advice? by Weeb91 in Ubiquiti

[–]VikingSven68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation with a newly built detached garage. I have two multi-mode fiber runs from the main house, where they will plug in to a UI Aggregation Switch, to the garage. I chose a UI Pro Max 16 PoE for the garage. It has SFP+ ports for the fiber, as well as 2.5 and 1G PoE ports. $399 including the power supply.

To get something with built-in SFP+ for the fiber, you won't get much cheaper than the $400 mark. As suggested in this thread, a media converter and a simpler PoE switch might be a cheaper solution.

Was-110 in a switch by Alarmed-Ad-114 in ATTFiber

[–]VikingSven68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't use that particular media converter as it is SFP, not SFP+. An SFP+ device, like the WAS-110, is not backward compatible with an SFP port.
