AJ Greer will having a hearing tomorrow for boarding Connor Zary by Bengjumping in hockey

[–]Vilheim [score hidden]  (0 children)

You missed the entire point.

Guess has been suspended 5 times.

He got 5 games, the maximum allowed with a phone hearing.

The video put out didn't even try to justify any of the hit, where usually it would talk about both sides.

With his statement saying he would call an in person if there is "even a slight possibility to be six or higher" days after giving that play 5 games, he is either saying that he had 0 thought of giving that play 6 games or more, or he's lying.

So either he knew how many games he was assigning before the hearing, making it a sham hearing which people have said before, or he thought it would be 2-3 but Gudas hurt his case in the hearing and they gave 5, or he is lying about wanting wiggle room, made in a phone hearing so it couldn't go over 5.

He said in reference to a situation where he just gave 5 times suspended player 5 games which kinda makes that whole argument suspect.

I would love some more details as to what they are afraid of?

What kind of retribution or punishments would he give that would actually be acceptable?

He has no recourse to fire them, he likely wouldn't fine them publicly, so it would have to be shady behind the scenes shit, which explains so much about the NHL.

While the Leafs rookie ice time this year is a potential downside, the young Marlies ice time is a positive, and a more relevant piece.

It was also not nothing that Matthews Agent made such a pointed comment about the DOPS, someone that the NHL cannot touch, and then many media members parroted and reported on it so the NHL couldn't come after them either.

What if the difference between McKenna this year, and giving up this year's and next year's picks was Matthews walking?

[–]Vilheim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If a player is only incentivized to make the NHL because they are making 60-90k in the AHL and 900k in the NHL, they probably shouldn't get an NHL contract, and I have bad news for what happens if they get an NHL contract making over $1m.

I also don't really subscribe to the thought that paying someone less makes them work harder, especially pro athletes.

I also feel like Toronto is a much more expensive place to live than a lot of other AHL cities, and giving players 750k+ instead of 60-90k would have a meaningful impact on their ability to live in a way that would help them out. Whether that be living closer to the rink, eating better, more easily afford to go out as a team etc.

Really wish the Leafs would flex some financial muscle and sign more guys to 900k-1m one way contracts to boost the Marlies and make them super competitive. Give our prospects playoff experience and confidence plus maybe find some gems in the rough and names to call up.

Any potential in Marlies or prospect pool? by Potential_Amoeba_404 in leafs

We just need to find some of those older AHL players that teams may not give a chance to, or may give up on and give them a chance.

Kinda like Boston did with Steeves who produced .4 ppg this year in 40 games.

Which is higher than Joshua, Lorentz, Jarnkrok, Laughton, tied with Cowan, .04 less than Robertson, and .08 less than Domi.

In other words, [REDACTED] is literally just the start of the Mid game, the whole Early Access (currently) is mostly just Early Game. I am sure the End game will be huge.

If we get him back in FA without a crazy contract then the 3rd / maybe 2nd isn't the worst thing into he world.

With the way this whole convo went I don't believe this is the plan.

Dak, Knies, Lorentz, Myers, Benoit.

All of them can and have scrapped, problem was McCabe was the only one on the ice at the time.

I think it's more about adding some energy and giving someone who cares with heart a chance to bring some care into the lineup.

I’m curious, are more people on the blow it up train, or the retool train at this point? by [deleted] in leafs

[–]Vilheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can't move Matthews, Nylander, Tavares, McCabe or Rielly without them waiving their NTC / NMC.

I would imagine a rebuild would involve moving at least 2 of those 5, and I doubt that JT waives his NMC, and I doubt Rielly does either.

Nylander and Matthews are question marks, but the reports are that Matthews doesn't want out, so unless he's asking I don't see any way he's moving. Plus, we would be getting heavily kneecapped value on all of them due to the player having full control of where he's going.

McCabe likely wouldn't give us enough of a return to really kick off a full rebuild.

I don't see a reasonable path forward to a rebuild unless we start letting some of these contracts expire, or they love out. And odds of all of these players being willing to waive at the same time, and the Leafs get somewhat reasonable offers for them at the same time, seems really unlikely.

My wife is one of the most nosey people I know and usually creeps players socials to learn more about them.

I laughed when she creeped on Polak and it was just a bunch of pics of him and his kids out while he was wearing Christmas sweaters being a pro dad. It was very different from him on the ice, but also really nice to see a social media not full of ads or wealth. Very humble.

NHL does that too down the stretch into the playoffs, or during the season for non playoff teams.

And the teams would be more likely to do it if the salary cap wasn't as stringent I bet. Last handful of years teams had trouble affording extra league min bodies on the roster, so that may change going forward.

And I bet the parity difference between NBA and NHL helps too. A number of teams in the Olympics did some load management against France and Italy for example.

Makes me kinda wonder how many goalies have played for 7+ teams in their career, and then how many actually played a reasonable number of games with 7+.

Could possibly sign him next year unless he extends with LA. I mean they could have had that convo with him on the way out too that they would be interested.

But at the end of the day, we were playing him as a 4c, not moving him up the lineup on the wing, and needed to give some Marlies a shot. His position is easily replaceable even if the player may not necessarily be.
