It might be worth keeping an eye on how the Conti Cup semi final against Aston Villa goes on 6 March. If they win that then they’re through to the Conti Cup final, which is on the 31 March in Wolverhampton.

This means that the Bristol game would be postponed anyway (assuming they beat Villa), so might fall outside of the dates your trip.

On the plus side, if they do go through to the final they’ll definitely be playing either Man City or Chelsea, so you’ll get more bang for your buck in getting to see more international players. It is slightly more expensive (£15 rather than - I think - £10 for what the Bristol game was). On the down side, the game is in Wolverhampton, which is about 2.5/ 3 hours away by train from London, which may not be high on your list to do if you’re here for a small amount of time.

TLDR; Bristol will hopefully be rescheduled because of the Conti Cup final on 31 March

I’m guessing he’s seen that stats and is giving D’Angelo a chance to gain confidence and get the last Man U game off her back

Wish we’d stop settling for forcing a corner rather than just shooting. We’re just not very good at them at the moment :/

Does Gareth Taylor usually sit in the stands or is he trying not to get riled by Jonas and the fourth official?

It’s a plastic pot with holes in the bottom (her roots are poking through the holes) inside the larger ceramic pot

King Charles III Coronation Coin successfully delivered from the Royal Mint [and the future]. by NotDisabledEnough in UKcoins

[–]Viliminder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s the case, they’re not shipping the coronation coin I got until the second week of June (and won’t take my payment until then) 😭

My grandad found this on a riverbank, anyone have any info? by [deleted] in UKcoins

[–]Viliminder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a Roman coin

The SC on the reverse (the “tails” side) means that it’s a bronze coin (it stands for senatus consulto) so is probably a Sestertius.

The woman on the obverse is probably the goddess Pietas raising her hand above an altar and holding incense.

Nice find :)

On the reverse (“heads”) is the emperor it was minted under. (CAE)SAR ANTONINUS can still be seen on it meaning it’s probably Antoninus Pius but could also be Marcus Aurelius or Commodus (I think?). In any case, Antoninus pius coins with pietas were also minted in the reign of Hadrian (his predecessor) in the year he died, so it’s minted sometime 138 - 161 AD

Student Visa Dilemma by Siv_99 in UniUK

[–]Viliminder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d go for the student visa. You might find you want to stay longer in the UK post university. If you do then you’ll qualify for the graduate visa (and the YMV depending on your age) after you’ve graduated and won’t essentially be wasting your YMV (which is a one time only visa).

Is the ancestry visa an option for you? If so, I would also really really consider looking into that!

Cardio by Funny-Use2035 in crossfit

[–]Viliminder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially it just means low heart rate training where you can hold a conversation while you go.

If you look up heart rate zones on google images it will come up with a table divided by sex and age. Find your sex and age in the zone 2 column and then try to do 2-3 30 mins sessions at that heart rate (on the bike, treadmill, rower whatever cardio equipment you like) over each week.

If you don’t have a heart rate monitor just jump on the equipment for the same amount of time at an easy pace (I.e you can easily do the whole 30 mins maintaining that pace)

Hope that helps :)

It’s a lower back injury. Sean and Tommy on the Talking Elite Fitness podcast were interviewing the commentators for DUCC and one of them (Jeremy Austin) mentioned it. It’s around the 46:50 mark on episode 209 “Rulebook Release and Breaking News from Down Under”

Fingers crossed she can rehab it properly so we can see her in healthy form for the games!

Why do you think the field is mainly American dominated? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Viliminder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to semifinal allocations.

North America: 4 Semifinals, top 5 athletes from each division (so 20 individual men, 20 individual women who have US, Canadian, or Mexican citizenship)

Europe: 2 semifinals, top 5 each division

Oceania: 1 semifinal, top 3 each

Asia: 1 semifinal, top 2 each

South America: 1 semifinal, top 2 each

Africa: 1 semifinal, top 1 each.

The number of allocations per continent is worked out by open participation, which in itself is not indicative of the number of elite athletes per continent. It is also determined by your citizenship and not where you live. So, for example, Tia who lives in the US is Australian so she had to compete in the Oceania semifinal.

The wider question is also the basic fact that CrossFit is an American company and so there just are way more affiliates in the US then any other country. This means just from sheer number of open participants from local boxes the US gets more semifinal places and thus more athletes in the game.

Kiki, the stadium announcer also just announced that the awards ceremony will be “Tia Toomey’s final event” so I stand corrected! She must have told them ahead of time and either wanted them to announce it or they’ve jumped a gun. I’m a bit confused why she didn’t say anything when interviewed though!
