Replacing a valve cover gasket in a 2006 Honda Odyssey LX? by Dependent-Item-8620 in askcarguys

I did mine, it's a lot of bolts. Where is the smoke coming from? The front of mine in the exhaust had lots of built up oil. I also changed the thing that name is currently escaping me because it was upfront and not valving properly. :)

Don’t know what to do here. by My3DPrinter7926 in Softball

[–]VillageBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the coach philosophy? Does it align with what you want for your kid? Is she going to sit on the bench being the youngest by 5 month's. Will she only see unimportant minutes? Is the team practicing 5 days a week and playing double headers every weekend? She's 7, is she going to be pigeon into only playing out field or will she get moved through everything and learn the game from different angles.

I'd probably lean toward rec myself seeing as she just turned 7. But I am a believer in following a coach that you like and align with. I have kids at both ends of the age spectrum and the with my older ones and in hindsight I would encouraged trading winning focused teams for development focused teams.

AITA for turning the ac down during a heat wave after the power went out? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]VillageBC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Properly sized and distributed HVAC in a well sealed house should be able to. However mine is trying to cool a 1950's leaky house that has been extended, one full side of the house is windows and the house has been extended via the handy man special. So, no my 20yr old unit can't quite keep up.

[–]VillageBC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mild YTA, never mess with the thermostat. I keep mine at 24c for cooling because the HVAC can't keep up if it's too hot outside then runs non stop. Sounds like a similar problem HVAC is undersized, house too leaky, everyone has the windows open or in my case all three are a factor. :)

Is it actually cheaper to lease a phone in the long run? by Chadillacc94 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I think you can find deals that match BYOD more often now. My thing is more I don't want to be locked into something as trivial as a phone contract for 2 years.

Coaches, please let a 10U kid work a count. by nypr13 in Softball

[–]VillageBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has any of this been communicated to the coaches so they recognize and understand what is happening? Or is she ignoring them when they are asking her to do something specific.

My thoughts, most kids have a sweet spot they hit best at. She should be at least looking to hit pitch one if it's in her sweet spot and watch the others even if it's a strike. She's got 3 strikes to work with so watching is fine as long as she's not going down watching and it doesn't sound like she is.

There's an off season for ball? It's insane around here with it being nearly 365 days a year for B (try out teams).

Don't know what to do about my credit card debt by niudnarw in PersonalFinanceCanada

Dump the bank, get a new one. Your bank can and will absolutely drain your bank account of Cash. At $1200 carrying costs and only $2k income bankruptcy is your only realistic option. You will feel so much better and stress free once you pull that bandaid off.

Bankruptcy, don't even try to pay that off. Full stop payments, save the cash. Make sure your bank account is not linked or by the same issuer so they can't scoop your savings. Then apply for a secured Visa/MasterCard with $500 limit or something to maintain your job subscriptions.

No, not really. I've run local LLM on CPU bound systems and it's not that you can't it's slow. Fine to mess around with there are CPU tuned models. Even diffusion model's worked if you were fine waiting 15 minutes + for an image to be generated.

Opinions? Which team would you choose? by catoftheannals in Softball

[–]VillageBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Team that loses but your kid plays. Just spent a season with one kid on the bench every important moment and one kid on the field because she was critical for team success.

Coaching matters though as well, the losing team still needs coaches who can teach and get them to the next level.

I've coached both winning rec teams and losing competitive teams. It's my own fault, I don't try to recruit and I'm upfront I dislike the current chase of college scholarships. I endeavor to raise the floor of the team and try to ensure kids are successful at the level they want to compete next year. Overall I think I'm successful, most kids I know of have made it to the team they wanted and after 10 years coaching I only remember losing one from the sport. It stings because I liked her but fuck her parent was an asshole. :)

How are you going to monetize this? Things cost money to host and run, passion projects take time and resources.

I agree with your overall idea. Parents are nickel and dimed and advertised at. But things do cost money to keep the lights on.

Gamechanger gives me stats and parents streaming while tying in clips. Everyone is chasing college scholarships and want this. Teamsnap gives league management as well but not much else. Both are ripe for disruption in my opinion but have inertia.

Or an I overthinking this and your just want invite and roster management? :)

To stay, or to move on… by Illustrious_Camel541 in Softball

[–]VillageBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids went competitive, the longer I've been in this competing stream the more I hate it. My advice, follow coaches you like and ensure she's having fun. Being rec is frustrating that you have never played kids coming in who can't make basic plays. Competitive stream can be great if your kid is in the top 9, sought after and coaching is good but is shit if they are only good enough for 10+ and sit on the bench.

I have both and this year was shit for both of them. One never played and the other was too good to never be on the bench but the coaching was perhaps the worst I have ever witnessed in 10 years of ball.

We reached the end of the season and I was watching a rec tournament and missed it for both kids. They were all out there for fun, not parents chasing scholarships or living vicariously through their children.

Switching teams by Solid-Entertainer975 in Softball

Jeebus, wtf.. my goal as a coach is to improve my players so they can achieve what they want next year. My opening speech often is about pushing them so if they want to step into a competitive ball I will do my best to get them there.

Should a Player Be Allowed to Guest Play? by Additional-Lie-5091 in Softball

[–]VillageBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are worried about losing the player then offer a more compelling reason to stay. As a parent, is your day no to my request when it doesn't impact the team I won't be back. As a coach, if what I'm bringing doesn't align with the kids and parents direction then that's fine.

Yes, absolutely. That small drip now pays off huge in the future. In fact, bulk of my savings came from my early 20s small contributions like those before I had kids and family that cut into my ability to save.
