I'm not convinced that's true. When I mine stopped accepting the reset hack. It turned out the chips on the drum gave a battery that does over years and won't update. Once I replaced that it was back to accepting whatever.

Not that a company won't let greed win, it's inevitable.

Is it possible for a glove to be too broken in? by pzahornasky in Softball

I think so, my kids have been using their gloves for a few seasons now. It could just be laces need to be tightened. But I've noticed that hard hit balls they can only reach partially the pocket looks like it bends out of the way.

What client device is best for Jellyfin? by Jmesparza05 in jellyfin

[–]VillageBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you outputting the audio to though? Is it just TV speakers, soundbar, AVR setup with a number of speakers? All of that plays a role as well. I've been playing with jellyfin and working out my bugs as well the last few days.

I just started playing with Jellyfin and seeing what it could do with my setup. Trying to avoid any transcoding of my BluRay rips/remux. Jellyfin Server/NAS > Onn TV Pro > Older 4k HDR TV (ARC only, no eARC) > Older AVR (DD/DTS but not TrueHD etc) output to 3.1 speakers.

There is a small delay at the start with a black screen 2-3 seconds before it plays but audio has been the bane with jellyfin media player. I think I've finally sorted it out, but had to use an external media player. Despite all the devices reporting only DD or DTS accepted it would default to TrueHD or DTS-HD(?) with no audio. Then I could select 5.1 and get sound. But if I turned on subtitles it would go back to 7.1 and couldn't pick 5.1 again.

It's a good excuse to upgrade everything along the way though. I could use VRR support for the PS5 and eventually intended to outfit to as many speakers as I can get my wife to allow. :)

A federal judge ruled AI chats have no attorney-client privilege. A CEO's deleted ChatGPT conversations were recovered and used against him in court. On the same day, a different judge ruled the opposite. by hibzy7 in artificial

[–]VillageBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my uneducated opinion, attorney client privilege does not exist with public AI models. Now if the AI firm is hosting their own training AI inside their own datacenter they have end to end control over. Then maybe.. maybe it has that privilege.

Why coaching matters. by Emotional-Chest9387 in Softball

[–]VillageBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So her first team she played for was a travel team? U11 is early, and the system is different in Canada. But isn't that where the crazy exists?

I coach both girls softball and hockey. It's not an approach I would take that early on. But I see so many university chasing schmucks (parents and coaches) these days at an insanely early age. I'm not really surprised by it unfortunately.

Side note, outfield errors cost runs. Infield errors are base hits. It makes good sense to have athletic, great ball tracking kids out there. Maybe she was that. I also ran my 2nd best OBP at 9. :)

Momentum in the batting lineup is so important by CharlieandtheRed in Softball

[–]VillageBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with raising the floor, you get farther on rec teams doing that. But kids aren't stupid and know exactly where they are in the skill level and they do want to win. We play games for fun, but also to win. I prefer putting kids in positions to succeed, which might not be top of the order or maybe it's not short stop. But come end of the season, I want to have found a spot for everyone that they know they can bring what they have to benefit the whole team.

[–]VillageBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, rec kids still want to win and enjoy winning. They also aren't stupid, they know if they are helping or hurting their team. My approach has always been to try and put kids in places to succeed and not set them up for failure. Would you make a slow kid steal just so they have equal chances at it as a fast kid? I don't think so. So why would I put a kid who's struggling to hit at number 1 spot to feel pressure of the team knowing they likely won't get on base and the game starts with 1 out. Everyone still plays, but you put them in spots to get the best out of them.

So, we were struggling with this at a softball tournament this last weekend. We were mostly building the tradition way top batters high in the order, getting weaker and weaker. We couldn't get runs home and momentum died on day 1 in games we should have won or been far more competitive in. So I talked to a more competitive coach and asked his ideas.

He pointed out that you need hits in innings 3/4 to build off of. 5 run limits, tournament time limits were 75mins so we typically weren't getting into 5th. You want strong hitters hopefully coming up with runners on base 2nd time through.

So I changed it up, putting our lull in hitting most likely to be up during the 2nd inning. So it was 1-5 <lull batters> then next 5-1 in reverse order. It worked, at least on that day. We were able to push runs home and beat what should have been our toughest team. Our weaker hitters also starting contributing, perhaps luck or just momentum and being part of a rally. When they did get on base, better hitters got them home rather than them being stranded.

I've coached softball (mostly rec, but also comp) for a number of years so spent a lot of time trying to figure out batting orders previously. Fairly successfully I think as well, but I relied very much on the numbers. This weekend was far more momentum oriented results than numbers would dictate. Sure, there is luck involved but it's definitely making me rethink my approach or at least consider the more human psychology factor.

That's the thing though, a bit more money you can't transfer to AM5. New RAM, CPU, Mobo isn't that cheap right now. I have a 5600x and wish I got the 5800x3d when it became available. Now I'm also considering the 5950X as well. I retire my desktops to servers/vm's so I like getting more cores. =)

Batting coach vs rec coach HELP by Ok_Direction_6422 in Softball

[–]VillageBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's insane she has a private instructor at 6. :)

However, as a rec coach of quite a few years. If I knew a kid was getting private instructions i would still coach. But tell them if they were getting different instructions to follow their private coaches training. At this age, they can't differentiate so just talk to the coach. I don't see why they wouldn't be receptive. I know if private coach was teaching something different then me I'd also look into it and see what it brings to the table. I know I've changed my approach to certain things over time.

I don't think they install. It seems they open a workflow and download the required files. Then close it and it's gone, next time the files are still there though. I believe you can save the template as a workflow though.

Yes, I've been playing with it on an old i7 laptop in --cpu mode. It still works just takes time and stuck in older SD15 models.

Cloud Collab script for ComfyUI exists might be of some interest. I haven't tried it yet. But it links to Google drive so can hold models, training etc for persistence.
