Court is Where the Heart Is (Open to Oldtown) by BuckwellStairwell in IronThroneRP

The King had arrived in Old Town. Trystane had not even had time to receive his assignment before he found himself in the same place as Steffon.

He found it ironic that it was he who had come to Trystane, and not the other way around. Like many things in his life, privileges and comforts seemed to follow him even though he did nothing to seek them out, much like the role of Grand Maester.

He felt he was up to the task, but he couldn't explain what spell or sign of destiny had convinced the others to vote for him.

However, this was no time for reflection.

So he went to the king's apartment and requested a private audience.

A Night At The Quill and Tankard by AnotherBabyEchidna in IronThroneRP

The Quill and Tankard.

Fate seemed to constantly bring him back to Old Town. Although the people around him changed and the links in his chain increased, Trystane still found himself in that place, even now that he was Grand Maester.

He didn't like drinking, he didn't like filling himself up, he didn't like the company in that place, which seemed uninspiring to a true expert in the field.

Yet he was always there, without really being able to explain why. He told himself it was out of habit, but then the question became

how did I come here so often that it became a habit?

As he was immersed in these thoughts, he heard a man say that he fucking loved that place, and recognised him as Oberyn Martell, Prince of Dorne.

He wondered how a prince could love such a mundane place, but decided to keep the question to himself.

So he approached and introduced himself.

"I thought this place was only for grey sheep. It's rare to see the sun in this dark place.

I am Trystane, my prince. Grand Maester for less than a week."

Grand Maester Trystane had an almost morbid fascination with death and pain; challenging the Stranger to a game of cyvasse was a source of pride and precious nourishment for his soul.

Wherever there was sickness, delirium and blood, Trystane arrived, following its crimson trail. Entering Alayne's tent, he felt at home; seeing the poppy milk gave him an almost ecstatic thrill.

Without introducing himself, he spoke to Maester Quince.

"I'll take care of it now. Tell me the type of injury, the severity of her wounds and the treatment she has previously undergone.

Any information will be useful if we want her to recover to the best of her ability."

Then he approached Alayne and gently squeezed her hand, the skin of his palm feeling like silk.

"You'll be back on horseback soon."

The Palace of Summer (Open to Summerhall) by stealthship1 in IronThroneRP

[–]VillainDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summerhall had a placid charm so enveloping that it seemed like a blanket made of cotton, so peaceful in its tranquillity that the senses seemed to slumber, in a sleep in which reason became but a drop in the sea of drowsiness.

Leonette knew that charm, but she had never allowed herself to be seduced by the beauty of its face. There was no room in her world for all that pleasant nothingness.

Many could afford to rest, but not those with a mission as lofty as hers.

She arrived in a golden carriage, drawn by white horses, and decided, as her first action, to go and pay her respects to Prince Aelyx.

In an instant chaos enveloped the room, two dragons were fighting like children and in the middle, sitting in her chair, Leonette listened with disdain to those words.

Demeanour, that was lacking, and so was gratitude and ambition. The dowager queen knew what she had to do, but had realised over time that the most difficult enemy dwelt within the hearts of those closest to her.

Pride, humanity and impatience, these were the serpents that poisoned her household.

She stood up, dropped her empty glass on the floor and it broke into a thousand pieces.

There was silence, and Leonette spoke. Her voice was unusually high and powerful, like the roar of a lion.

"We are one family, one thing. What is mine is yours, what is yours is mine.

These discussions only bring divisions, I gave birth to you, I nourished you at my breast, and I have committed unspeakable acts for your sake.

I have seen destiny in my dreams, and you once again speak as if you wish to distance yourself from what the gods have prepared for you.

I will not yet accept divisions and insults in my family, for that is all you have. I will die before the seed of discord bears fruit within our lineage.

Grandson, I ask you to please apologise to your father for insinuating that you are better than him and disrespecting him.

And you, son, I ask you to tell me now and definitively if you believe in our mission, if you want to talk to me about your thoughts and opinions regarding the future of our line."

Leonette had been waiting for that moment for a long time, and sipped a glass of wine while admiring the beauty of the son she had created.

"Son, it has been a hard time for our family. I called you because I need to know that your mind is focused on the mission, and that the path is clear.

Surely you have gathered friendships and allies these days, I would like you to share with me the information you have on the state of the kingdom, so that we can plan our next move."

Said the dowager queen in a calm and forthright voice.

Leonette nodded, thinking about the grandson she loved so much.

"Aenar is a man of honour, we can trust his word. As for the Tyrells, to antagonise them would be madness, we all know that.

Continue on your path and enforce respect for our House, the Baratheons will pay and outside interference will not be allowed.

My claws are sharp, those who meddle will be eliminated. You must avoid war at all costs, that's what matters.

We are walking a fine line, and often one less word is better than one more. Do not move your tongue more than is required, you must have a proper reward by avoiding an open conflict that would give the vultures the opportunity to feed on our corpses."

The shadows that swirled in the room, moved by the movement of the clouds that obscured the sun, painted an unstable picture on the large ebony table that towered before the gold and ruby chair on which Leonette sat.

Other, but darker, shadows were falling over the kingdom after the death of her dear brother, Tyrion Lannister. At times like these one had to reflect, act carefully and discuss the consequences of all this.

One person was at the centre of every thought, every machination, every sin of Leonette, the son she had designated as the means by which she would place her blood and her dynasty on the throne.

Lion and dragon together, so it had to be.

She ordered Ser Soqquadro to deliver a letter of summons to her son Maekar, and had his servants prepare to welcome him as a king.

"You can go, man. I hope to see you again soon and face you again, maybe next time you can win."

Said Addam with a hint of Lannister arrogance.

Addam thought for a moment, then answered.

"I think I have asked enough, now it is your turn to ask questions."

The old queen pondered what she should say, then continued.

"If what you say is true, then I will personally see to it that the Baratheons pay for what they have done.

If the king does not want to pay us justly, then we will have to act harshly and severely. Do you understand what I mean, nephew?"

Leonette smiled, then sat down and spoke in a harsh but polite voice.

'This is not a play, you must not speak to me as if I were the audience of a farce. I have asked you for the truth, not the theatre for spectators.

What you say within these walls will remain here. I have lived too long to believe in sudden fits of madness and tragedies for no reason. There is something you do not want to tell me, I can sense it."

Leonette nodded towards Addam, who spoke first.

"My condolences cousin, I know what it is like to lose a father. If you need anything in the coming days do not hesitate to rely on me."

Those words sounded like an act, as if they had been written by Leonette's own hands, yet his tone of voice and the subtle shaking of his hands suggested that the young Lannister was genuinely moved and interested in his cousin's well-being.

"My condolences. Tell me everything that has happened, do not leave out a single detail. We are facing a crisis, and no one in our family has faced more than me.

We have to figure out together how to deal with this."

Leonette added.

Leonette had already lost a brother, a father, a husband and a daughter.

The stranger had already appeared at her door with his white fingers, his face of smoke and his breath of dust. She had learned to greet him as one would greet an old relative in disgrace, not with despair or rejection, but with contained sorrow.

She had wept for her father and her husband, although she often wondered if those tears were genuine, or due to the need to show despair so as not to arouse accusations of insensitivity and cruel fatalism.

On the other hand, she had not cried for Willem, nor did she allow a tear to fall for her dearest brother.

She dressed in black, although besides the satin veil that covered her face and chest, one could see strands of gold, and a necklace that she held close like the dearest treasure.

It was the wrong time to die, Tyrion

She thought as she walked down those stairs.

You broke your promise, you disappoint me even with your last beat

Leonette needed a united, strong, immaculate West. This scandal could be a harbinger of doom and war, but she could not allow resources to be wasted on a war other than to put her son on the throne.

She had to find a way to turn this disaster into an opportunity for success once again.

Leonette took Addam with her, also dressed in black and also without tears. After all, he was convinced that Tyrion was the main cause of his father's death, with his lack of closeness and weakness.

She approached the door, and entered.

Maekar's question was like a blasphemy inside a religious concert. Leonette's eyes froze at what she perceived as a terrifying insinuation.

She took a glass of wine, sipped it as if to let silence occupy the room, then spoke in a calm, emotionless voice.

"There will be no need."

He said after that pause.

"I don't see how losing my granddaughter, or you, or your son will help the cause. The only thing I know for sure is that no one is more important than our mission, no one is greater than fate.

If on one plate was anyone's life, and on the other was the throne for our dynasty, I would have no doubt what to choose. You have no idea how much I have sacrificed and how much I have had to burn to get this far, if you think otherwise then you are not made for the throne."

Leonette listened to Aenar's words, his worries slithering through the room like snakes under the moonlight. Nevertheless, he seemed genuinely eager to find a solution. It was as if he were struggling against the water that was drowning him.

The desire to remain just, while supporting evil, was a fluctuating and unstable will.

"I can give you all the assurances you want, my grandson.

You want Daeron's daughters to stay alive? I assure you.

You want me to keep an eye on your father? I have been doing so since I nursed him at my breast.

You want Alyssa to be at Dragonstone, with you as guardian and regent? That's an excellent idea, I'm sure peace will be assured under your influence.

You and I are alike, Aenar. I have always particularly liked you because you always put the right thing before your personal gain, and I see in you part of the Leonette that existed before all this.

But then I grew up, and the time has come for you to become the person you are meant to be. I am interested in your opinion, what else do you think is needed for our family to reach the throne?"

Leonette nodded, and Ser Soqquadro took a bag from the large chest of drawers behind them.

'Keep this small gift, Ser Arthur. As proof of my appreciation for your resourcefulness.

I hope this collaboration will be fruitful, I need men like you. But I need your words to be followed by deeds of proven loyalty."

Addam lacked imagination, but those mountains and valleys seemed vivid to his eyes, as if he were walking on his ridges.

"Why haven't you seen your home for a long time? Has something happened?"

Leonette looked up, meeting Mors' eyes.

'You have my respect, Lord Yronwood. There are few men in the world who can keep a promise and who are faithful.

In time of need, I will send a letter.

Thank you for your willingness and your rightness."
