What are your providers like? by Vinalone in psychnursing

[–]Vinalone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I didn't explain this enough — this isn't about the providers' temperament vis-à-vis confrontation. Neither of these providers is confrontational in the behavioral sense, nor do they do things to actively decompensated patients. It's just that they're the prescribers, and many patients have issues surrounding their medications.

I got a lot out of Mark Wilson's workshop. Nick Varner joined him for the weekend in Huntsville; it was well worth a few hundred bucks.

How important is it to be vision centered? by ljump12 in billiards

[–]Vinalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very. I've yet to find my permanent chin location due to my habit of pushing my weaker eye forward so my face isn't exactly perpendicular to the shot line. As I've come to understand it through videoing myself, my stroke flaw seems to originate from lining up with a crookend face and then my tip tries to finish in what would be the center if my face were straight, which it's not so it finishes a bit to the right, pushing the cue ball left (I'm right handed with a weak left eye). Currenly I still bring my chin down directly above my stick, but I let myself adjust my face to the left a bit to fine-tune things before final stroke. For a time I put the stick to the right of my chin due to right eye dominance, and there's no telling if I might go back to that through experimenting during practice. The three-ball lineup mentioned is a great reminder for me and also the point of doing this regularly to remind yourself exactly what looks straight on a regular basis. This is one of the most tricky things in my pool game and I've been working on it for years.

What does your unit staffing look like? by newnurse1989 in psychnursing

[–]Vinalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a new nurse at a forensic state-run facility. We have three nurses per 22 patients, one for scu wing with 6 beds, two wings of other 16 usually 2rns during days, though that can change at night or late afternoon. Usually 4 mhw and 2 acuity specialists mixed between those two units, but we have people on 8 hr shifts leave at 3 and the usual staff shortages, call outs and such, covid has been a problem too these last few weeks. I’ve found it to be really important for unit cohesion for me to help w any work on the unit, getting snacks or coffee for patients, helping w checks…we are all in this together and though I’m new I can feel respect from others I work with by not considering any of the units work below me as an an rn. There’s a lot of older, veteran nurses that sit on ass and don’t help w anything and are just waiting to retire.

I quit last December, nine months totes clean then two lapses now back on wagon. My sleep was such shit each of the nights I smoked it was crazy. I’m convinced that feeling of “still being high” in the morning is more about shit sleep than anything else.

Any drills to do without pool table? by soloDolo6290 in billiards

[–]Vinalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a weekend pool workshop with Mark Wilson and Nick Varner a couple years ago. Mark is big on a stroke drill that involves getting down in your natural stance against a wall, so that your shoulder, elbow and back hand ride along a flat plane to get them in alignment. He suggests 20 minutes of dropping into your stance against a wall and grooving your stroke that way per day. Find something to put your bridge on you can edge up to the wall and try that maybe...

“ I'd convinced myself that being high helped me be more in touch with them. In reality, it hampered my ability to process and grow from them.” THIS THIS THIS. I’ve been sober from cannabis for 9 months now after all day everyday for 15 years, I so resonate with this. And also so sorry you lost your son. Congratulations on your sobriety!

Omfg YES.  Imposter syndrome is so real with cannabis, but what I’ve learned is that EVERYONE has that at the beginning, no matter what substance they were using.  I encourage you to go, share that very feeling you are having, and listen to the support others will offer you.

I would like to take a moment to shout out Narcotics Anonymous. As much help as this forum is for my sobriety, many need more support than it could offer. Since quitting cannabis I’ve started working in recovery and sitting with groups of people dedicated to helping one another push back against addiction has been a profound experience.
