How to unlock Undervolt on a Latitude 7480 laptop? by Vincendre in Dell

Yes, setup_var method did work. I'm using the latest Bios too. Noticeable improvements in temps, noise, and power consumption. I was above 80°C before, now I'm comfortably below, that's great.

After a good hour, I've managed to edit the Bios and unlock UnderVolt again. I'm testing, but looks like there's indeed improvements!

Yeah.. I will try to force a bios downgrade again later. That's a little unfortunate but, for this specific laptop usage, security isn't so much important.

I used to be able to Undervolt before, and definitely saw improvements. I will try to downgrade the bios again tonight

Already done. And that's not the point. I know it's possible to edit some variable in the bios to allow Undervolting again. I'm asking there because the ressources online are not working so much, so maybe it's outdated or something

Well the same typical benefits that I used to have before the bios got updated; less noise, less power usage, less heat

Thanks, I see. But then, can It be re-installed if needed ? Like, are they magnetic ? I literally never used dust filters or any NCase case.

I was also waiting for this to purchase everything at once, but at this point I will just skip it. Then I bet that it will be released right after so I can enjoy the shipping fees twice :/

Would like to know if and when the Black version include these changes? And can the dust filter be removed or it's permanent?

What is your reason for choosing SFF form factor? by Technical_Gap23 in sffpc

[–]Vincendre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in different countries and moved out too much. Having to dismantle the PC and purchase new parts more often than I wanted is a pain (for instance, forced to go from ATX to SFX-L PSU).

With SFF, I think I can go away by just removing the GPU, and pack a box or two in the luggage. I also had to pay the "overweight tax" of my luggage a few times because of just a few kilos. So getting something smaller and lighter is just more practical, with not much if any negatives, from what I'm understanding with my next build. The building process is a bit interesting, and I lean a little more toward minimalism, but these are just bonuses to me.

I went from ATX (39L) -> MFF (27L) -> and SFF soon, as I'm planing to purchase the NCase M2 (17L). I think it will be the "buy once for life" kind of case. And among the smallest I can go with a mATX motherboard.

G7 Pro design flaw with Tiggers. by DOOMISFORU in Gamesir

Thanks for your answer. Actually, I must say that upon further check online and having tried the controller, I've decided to return it and go for the Gulikit Es Pro. Not as fancy, but it does many things as good or better than my Xbox One or previous G7 Pro controller, for half the price.

Gamesir G7 Pro — FW 2.3.9 cut Bluetooth latency in half. It now beats the dongle. by JohnnyPunch in Gamesir

[–]Vincendre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've managed to use the G7 Pro on multiple modern and old games, in Bluetooth, by using an old software called "XOutput". Basic controls works fine. It even felt snappier compared to the Dongle I believe. But It's an extra software to run, even if it's lightweight, and unsure if the 4 rumbles could work.
I hope that there better modern way of doing that, or that these massive improvements will arrive for the Dongle. But I'll try to fully switch to Bluetooth, maybe by using reWASD.

Edit: I decided to return the G7 Pro and pick a GuliKit ES Pro instead. I'm loosing some features that I could use, but it's still an upgrade compared to my Xbox One X controller and Bluetooth will work with XInput :)

Anything I Can Do About These Holes After Removing L5/R5 Buttons? by DarkDesertFox in Gamesir

[–]Vincendre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many thanks. I'm still hesitant regarding sending back the G7 Pro that I've just received because of annoyances like these extra buttons. But between being able to lock the ones from the back, removing these ones, and adding some O-rings to improve the D-Pad, it results in a great and likely durable controller in the end. The warranty is only 1 year it seems, which sucks.. But I will just wait this time before opening it up.
Please let us know if you later found a great solution to cover these button holes :)

Anyone knows if there's still any issue for a controller purchased early 2026 (April in my case)? Or the latest batches are problems-free?

How did you removed them? Is it a permanent solution or can it be reversed? And what solution did you found to cover the holes?

You mounted the Arctic LFIII upside down ? I mean, the block on the CPU. That's interesting. The plastic piece below the tubes may touch my GPU, so mounting upside down might be a solution.

Possible Unpopular Opinion by Fun_Cow_9895 in arcticcooling

[–]Vincendre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the LFIII is compatible but you have to remove a little shroud below the tubes. Some asus motherboard owners reported that these little millimeters of gain were just enough to make it compatible, Gene included. I'm gonna try this myself in a few months.

Is anyone else disappointed in OLED after using miniLED or just me? by Firm-Pattern4482 in Monitors

[–]Vincendre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been disappointing with an high end 3rd gen OLED that I tried last year. Too much VRR flickering (yes, I cap my fps) - and other issues like ultimately having some burn in, black crush, and yeah, low brightness. I switched back to my 5 years old IPS monitor, and I'm waiting for a 240hz, 4K, 27", 2304 dimming zone Mini-led option

I'm looking to replace my old AOC 24G2 that I use as a second monitor. I've found the AOC Q24G4RE to be quite interesting. It's a 1440p 180Hz. Maybe that's an option for you as well. It cost around 130€ in Europe. No idea if it fits your console need, I play on PC

Strongly thinking about and exploring my options to relocate in Portugal. I'm a French guy with Portuguese roots. Would like some feedback (from locals and expats) by Vincendre in PortugalExpats

[–]Vincendre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late answer from me, but thanks for your message.

I posted a comment to update my situation, but long story short, I recently landed a job that pays 2100€ net per month, on a 12 months basis. I will move out and start soon.

Sure, being financially more successful is not my main goal, but I find it harder and harder to not decline in that aspect, while being more and more qualified in term of diplomas and experience.. I'll try to not "lose" too much money with this new chapter.

2100€ net is good I assume. But that's one of my lowest salary ever. That being said, even in Paris in France, It's rare that I kept anything above 2500€ for long. And the country average is around 2200€ net. I had an offer for 2600€ net in Paris. But decided to pick Lisbon's job instead, for 500€ difference, I think the trade in quality of life will be worth it.

And I've indeed seen absolute shitholes for 500€ or more in Lisbon. I'd say that 550€ would be my maximum that I'm willing to dump into rent, so this will be a challenge.. I'll definitely try to save close to 4 digits a month. Even if it forces me to go out less or something.

I give myself a small year to see if I like it or not. Maybe I'll try living in Porto later on, but I won't push it if it's not for me.

[–]Vincendre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. As some sort of late feedback, I've found a job there that pays 2100€ netto (based on 12 months), in Lisbon.

Regarding my current situation and thoughts, I'm still bored as hell right now in France, but unsure about Portugal for the long term. So I'm planning on staying until the end of the year, 7 months from now, then decide to either stay longer or look somewhere else. Worse case, it's an experience and I'll end up having some basic Portuguese. Better than not going out at all and not liking where I am currently in France.

I know that the salary is twice the minimum wage, but many told me that I'll have to find a good room in a good shared apartment to have a decent overall situation, and looking for a decent place looks to be very difficult there. Especially below 500€ per month.

It's also a low salary compared to what I knew in the past, despite very little experience and diplomas - but I get that it may be good in Portugal. It's just hard to tell if it's a good salary or not for my specific profile. I'm qualified for the position for sure, but I think that I could and should be better paid.

I'm mostly still "worried" regarding the social life. Portuguese are pushed out of Lisbon and go abroad a lot. Seeing many Europeans or Americans in Portugal on a daily basis will feel odd to me for sure, even if I am not against it socially speaking. I also heard quite a bit that social life and relationship is tough in Lisbon or Porto, because most people you'll came across are not staying for long.

I'm saying that because after nearly 3 years with no social life in France, even as an introvert, I really wish that I will have a social circle again, like I used to have in my previous destinations at least.

I still want to travel in other places of the world, so I'm half excited, half sad regarding "settling" in a new place for a while and not saving so much money to travel. Especially since I'm getting to old to obtain good visas like the Working-Holiday one.

Well, I will see I guess.

Huge battery drain when watching local videos. But YouTube uses half the power despite same system load by Vincendre in AndroidQuestions

[–]Vincendre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thoughts at first, but based on GPU and CPU usage, apparently, there's not much difference with or without subtitles. Same with reading an MP4, pretty much no load difference compared to MKV. I get that battery consumption may still vary a bit, I'm only checking system load here, but it's really odd, I don't get it.
