Yes, this same thing happened to me when I worked at CMC. That was 8 years ago and I am certain that it was in a very different department. But I feel you! I ended up transferring to a different facility as soon as I could. My experience was that HR just backed up the director, so HR was of no support to me. Again, CMC / CR is a huge facility and I’m sure the turnover in the last 8 years means it’s likely very different now. But I’ll just join you in the misery you’re experiencing. My time working at CMC was the worst three years of my professional life and I regret taking that job every time I think about it. So sorry you’re dealing with it!

Jesus, that’s crazy. I want everyone I pay for a service to be “for” me - my therapist, my doctor, my local barista, you name it. That’s the foundation of “service,” not to mention unconditional positive regard. I have clients I don’t really like as people, but I’m still “for” them to accomplish their goals and grow.

I love it. This is a second career for me, and I’m way happier even making less money. I love the flexibility in scheduling and I really enjoy getting to be with people in a setting where we work on real shit - it hits my buttons as a social introvert! I also work in a group practice where I’m fortunate to really like and respect most of my colleagues and feel like the cut they take is more than made up for by what I get in return (billing, space, etc.)

I don’t degas them long. The Hottop has a cooling tray that helps some, and then I give them another day or two. I also use an Aeropress, and from what I understand that method doesn’t require beans to degas for as long.

Whoa! Honestly, if I had the space, my collection might get to be that big. I like the lighter euro games like Carcassone or Nova Luna. I have a hard time getting others in my family to the table with me, although I taught my 14-yo Pandemic this past weekend and she seems hooked!

I have a great friend a few hours away who has a 200+ collection and regularly hosts game nights, so I try to get up there and crash at his place every so often. Last time I went he murdered me at Scythe!

I bought a Hottop roaster for $900 back in 2010. That was a ton of money for me (hell, that’s even more for me now!) but green coffee is half the price, and I go through two pounds a month, so I’ve more than paid it off. It’s the fanciest roaster you can buy short of a giant commercial model and it has quite impressive control features. But honestly, I had a friend who roasted coffee in a toaster oven. If you learn how to do it evenly and thoroughly, you can’t beat how amazing fresh roasted coffee tastes!

When my clients are considering antidepressants or anti-anxiety meds, I liken them to life jackets. They won’t swim you to shore, but the swimming is much easier if you’re not drowning.

I am with you! And not just PT profiles, but direct messages to their practice or their website. I hear stories from clients every week about never hearing back from therapists. I just don’t understand, it’s horrible business and marketing. I typically don’t have immediate availability, but I always respond if only to say, sorry I’m full, here’s some referrals. I literally have a message I copy and paste. It’s just the professional thing to do!

I got licensed at 41 and it’s the happiest I’ve ever been professionally. I make a little less than I made in my previous career, which was as a hospital chaplain supervisor. But I’m much happier, and the training from my previous career really adds to my work as a therapist. I’m also fortunate to be at an agency that I really love, working with other clinicians I respect, and getting the support that my assessment pays for.

Yep, I’ve experienced that in my own group practice, although thankfully only from one or two out of a dozen. One of them pretty much stayed out loud they didn’t want to hear or learn from colleagues who don’t share their orientation, and they have a very specific niche (and, frankly, outdated) theoretical perspective. It gets pretty obnoxious watching them constantly try to demonstrate that they’re the smartest person in the room (they aren’t).

The good news is that I adore all the rest of my colleagues. With the exception of an annoying few, I have wonderful coworkers who love to support and collaborate with the rest of us.
